“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
It seems there’s always a “black sheep” in the meta events (dailies) and what I’ve noticed is it’s the Fire Shaman. Sometimes you’ll get quite a few people there, but most times you’ll get very few to none and find you’re the only one there to try to get the event started.
The problem with this I’ve noticed is there’s nothing to tell you when the event is being done, or when it’s just being idle. On the gw2stuff.com site the API tells you how long the event has been active for, but not if it’s currently being done. Thus the chances for anyone to be there are rather slim. I’ve seen it be active for 2hrs+ before anyone comes along and does it. It’s like the community for doing daily events is like “oh yeh, we’ll get to that eventually, there’s hardly anyone there to do it anyway”.
I was wondering if anyone could think up some kind of impetus (motivation) for making this event more popular than it currently seems to be. The fact that it’s a champ should be an instant drawcard, but converse to that, it also takes him 3 phases to finally be dead. Other events I’m thinking of don’t take anything like as long to complete such kitten, wurm, maw, etc.
Is there anything to get more people along to this event when it actually happens?
I’m thinking a closer WP would be helpful as well as map-wide announcement that he is up, with boss symbol on map as well.
You essentially have to kill him three times to finish him off. It’s annoying. I very rarely do that event.
Where is said event?

Iron marches very top NW corner
Ahh…thank you. I thought maybe that’s what it was, but wasn’t sure. =)
If you’ve been going around to events, usually someone will mention that he’s up. Sometimes that person is me :p, and more will follow once they know others are going. I sometimes start the first phase on my own, and I have duo’d him into the third phase, by which time the cavalry rolls in for their rewards. I don’t see an issue with the fight, it’s a fun one and it can be done with a low number of people. People don’t find the rewards worth the effort, since you can join the champ train for champs and other world bosses don’t require you to move.
What they could do is make each stage a separate event so the event timers can track it.

It givs as much dragonite ore as the dragons, which is way more than things like maw and fire ele. That is the reason I do him. If it had not been for the T7 mat I would have left all world bosses alone.

Agreed, someone may mention that he’s up, but usually there’s other people who, like others have posted here, will avoid the event entirely, possibly because it’s out of the way and such. I refer to your comment on the cavalry rolling in by the last phase… there’s no way to know it’s the last phase; there’s no indication of it on the API and if you happen upon him at the last phase it’s usually by luck not good timing. I did this today and had another thief to dual it with, but then 4 others turned up at the last phase from totally unrelated guilds so it’s unlikely communication was a factor either.
The claw of jormag you can tell it’s in it’s 2nd phase usually by how long it’s been up. Most times people will roll in by about 15 minutes in, by which time the annoying dragon screaming/icebrood vets & champs have been cleared off.
The last part of your post is what has me most concerned because that’s what people will usually do at the last phase.. have expected some other people (suckers) to have done the first two phases and then the last phase everyone comes swarming in for the kill and the loot. An idea I had on top of this is that after each phase (each time he’s defeated) a champ box is awarded to participating players, because after all, you effectively have already killed him, just that it’s in one particular phase. This could work, the mechanics of it would need to be fine-tuned but the theory is solid, and would get more people in on the kill.
If there were more people in Iron Marches I would announce it in map chat but as it is this place is hardly ever frequented.
Just go do it. I did it a few nights ago with only one other random person there. It was a little long (not much more time consuming than any WB, really), but challenging enough not to be tedious.
The cavalry coming in was just a joke, ha, because the other day we did duo him to phase 3, when suddenly a swarm of people came running. Making each ember phase a separate event that rewards exp and karma would suffice for me. Maybe I’ll post something later about this in the Suggestions forum.
My guild does it at least once a day after reset. I just go with them and get it done daily.
On top of that, our server has boss trains (as I’m sure most do) after reset, and usually the next boss for all to go to is linked. Fire Shaman often falls into the zerg train somewhere, usually when nothing else is going to pop for a little bit so theres time to do it without missing something else. This is guildless communication amongst strangers and it getting done. Its not hard to link and direct people to it during the boss train.
If you link it, they will come.
Going back to my original post, I can still hear this black sheep bleating away as almost no one on my server wants to do this event (still). Let’s see if we can nut out some reasons why this is…
From this you can ascertain he’s not the most fair boss to fight as he’s unpredictable and a lot of his attacks aren’t telegraphed. As such he’s not part of my daily routine of events anymore for the above reasons, but also because a lot of people have just given up on the event, probably for the same reasons.
this guy i never do and what about foulbear? i dont do him either
Foulbear is horrible. The event can be done so quickly and by the time it appears in GW2stuff, it can already be too late to get there on time.
But if you can get a friend or two, you can easily start the chain and complete it without any troubles, unlike that annoying Fire Shaman.
