Fireworks this coming weekend?
I had no idea there was a Tyrian Independence Day on July 4th :P
dragons, I sometimes wonder if we’ll ever find a way to save us from ourselves.”
Where on Tyria will there be fireworks displays this coming weekend?
I’ve never known of an GW-game celebration that takes place on/around 4 July, perhaps because it’s an American rather than an international holiday. There are fireworks available at other time, notably during Lunar New Year.
You mean July 1st!!! (not everyone is a yank!!!!!!!)
But yea—July 1st (and 4th) have nothing to do with tyria. (nor does any other countries date of celebration)
It used to be celebrated in a sense through dragon bash. But that isn’t happening apparently. And yes there were fireworks.

From what I can gather from Wiki, Dragon Bash had more in common with the Dragon Festival in GW1 (which had Canthan lore based reasoning and roots) than any holiday outside of the game.
Having said that, I’d love to see more regular festival events in GW2. Helps break up the waits for new story content. I’d have thought that with Current Events (pun intended), Dragon Bash would have been a great thing to bring back this year seeing as how it was meant to be about laughing in the face of the danger of the dragons. Would have been a great morale boost for those under Jennah as well as the Pact.

Buy some fireworks with karma or on the TP or as a guild party item and put on your own display!
Unlikely given we’ve never seen it before.

The dragon festival is based on the lunar calendar new year, an Asian, more specifically, Chinese celebration.

I think you are confusing different events. The dragon bash happened in mid June to July in 2013
Guild Wars universe does not acknowledge Individual Real Nation Pride.
So… No Canada Day
No U.S. Independence
etc.
Been that way even in GW1
2015-2016

Mm, the Dragon Festival in GW1 was held in June/July as well – it’s in progress as we speak over there in historyland with today being the finale (well, in 8.5 hours). Canthan New Year became Lunar New Year in GW2 and I think we’re all aware of how it links to Chinese New Year. I’d love to see Celestial minis return over those ugly backpacks :P
Also good catch there, Donari -snorps with laughter-

I guess whatever zone the US is in?

Clearly a take on the Americanized “St Patrick’s Day”.

A thanksgiving celebration in everything but name.

A fireworks heavy event that ends on the 4th of July.
While they don’t explicitly celebrate American holidays, it’s pretty obvious what these three were meant to symbolize.

I suppose wintersday is a celebration of Finland’s independence day that just hits a couple days late? It fits since Santa is Finnish.
Remember, the people that work at anet live in the real world. So when they add a festival it will probably hit/be near something analogous that they celebrate. That does not mean things HAVE to fall on those dates though. There is no reason why, oh, some significant day between Tyria and the Charr can not hit in the fall.
If there were fireworks for each national day in the world, that’d just be a daily routine, and therefore kind of crap… Why would there be fireworks for any of them in the first place?
There are vendors that sell fireworks year round if you want to do your own thing
