I was trying to find one already in the forums but that’s quite the task and a topic already covered as well. So. My question is whether or not there are any plans on implementing a first-person view for our gaming pleasure. If so, when and if not, why?

I’m lacking immersion at times (especially in story) when I always have to see my own back or my own character in general. I want to see from my own (in-game) eyes and we all know others do too. I remember it being brought up in beta but I never followed it hoping that it’d just come along because it was there in GW1; even in GW1 I played with my controller in first-person and it’s epic just running through the outskirts of old Ascalon.

First person camera
Increase max dolly (camera distance) distance
Decrease min dolly distance
More finite dolly control
Automatic camera height adjustment on /sleep emote
Manual camera height adjustment
Stop ‘random snapping’ from happening
Look at camera
Free orientation movement
Fix automatic camera height so that the over the shoulder camera works as it would be expected to work
Manual FoV adjustment
Look acceleration toggle
Keep drawing mouse cursor when right clicking toggle
Keybind toggle for holding right mouse down / click once to toggle option
Please let me know if there is anything else I’m missing.

No no no.Op.You don’t understand.
You should be thankful there is no option to zoom
the camera all the way in to a 1st person view.
You would have serious situational awareness problems,
and immersion breaking issues.
Let’s say you get into combat while in FPV and you want
to move back to 3rd pesron…
What would you do then?Ehh?
Confusion would gradually add up,to a point where you wouldn’t
be able to operate your mouse wheel and adjust the camera distance.
Not to mention that the beautiful world will be less of spectacle.

Another FPV thread. I support FPV in game. GW1 had FPV, and I personally find the lack of FPV in GW2 to break the connection I have with my characters. Is FPV good for GW2 combat? Probably not for most people. Is FPV good for roleplayers and machinimas? I’d say so.

Although I am neither roleplayer nor machinima producer, I believe both of those groups are important to the longevity of this game through the added emphasis on ingame lore and the free advertising through machinimas to get more people interested in purchasing GW2.

Furthermore I personally find GW1 scenery more exciting than GW2 simply because of the FPV feature that allows me to submerge myself into the world rather than be a full-time puppet master. Also, screenshots.

I read that GW2 has already had a FPV option that they allowed in the EotM beta testing or something, but choose not to make available to all players because of the combat system.

If combat is so important, why not make FPV only available out of combat?

These are my opinions on the matter.

You could have a first-person view break on combat check box; as well as a particle effects / skill effects slider which would help lessen tearing in general even w/o first-person view. It could also just be a key that’d you’d have to manually set up through the control options to toggle in and out so you don’t accidentally scroll in during a fight.
