I’ve known forever that this game is one of the most beautiful RPGs out there (mmo or otherwise) but it has been frustraiting to no end the lengths one must go through to actually appreciate it.

I absolutely LOVE the new camera options.

Personally I’m more happy with the higher FoV option than the first-person view option. Putting that FoV to max really gives you a better idea of how vast and expansive some of the zones are.

I was playing EoTM today as Overgrowth and I lost track of our zerg several times because I was looking around me in awe. Everything looks so much bigger and more epic with FoV set to max.

I turned my graphic settings up recently. Dropped me to 30fps, but the visuals are worth it.
GW2 has some of the best aesthetics I’ve experienced in an MMO. That it can be so pleasing to the eye and still run great on my machine puts it a light year away from WildStar (7-12fps for uninspired cartoons?) or even FF14 (gorgeous, but devours my GPU).

Many alts; handle it!

It’s crazy how badly optimized most mmo’s are right now. I mean, seriously, they tend to look like they are ten, fifteen years old compared to AAA single players and shooters, but they run like garbage.

Part of the reason is to try to cater to low-end hardware, and development starts early (potentially 4-5 years before release). MMOs starting development now can take advantage of the optimizations with new APIs (DX10+).

It’s still quite amazing what MMOs can accomplish though, despite the limitations, and GW2 is an outstanding example of that.

Looking bad doesn’t necessarily mean poorly optimized. It it looks bad, and lags, then it’s poorly optimized.

that’s all nice and sexy but people are playing 50% lower fps cuz of few sliders which aren’t necessary to enjoy an mmo.

1st person camera is just there for pve, and even in pve still can’t perform good as 3rd person. It’s an mmo… rpg, not shooter.
This camera kitten was totally not needed.

Unlike some MMOs, GW2 uses colors other than shades of gray and brown.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

Case in point, Ascalon. …oh wait. XD

Kidding aside, lovely game.

I love the new camera options. Taking a swivel around in first person has really helped me appreciate how much work was put into the pixelated environment around me. Its really quite gorgeous.

To survive this world you must be mad as a hatter. Luckily for me, I am positively insane.

A beautiful game which is ruined by a terrible UI.

With the new FP option, I actually can appreciate the differences between the races. I now feel smaller than norn. Also it helps show off the detail they put into so many things in the world including the enemies. I fight in FP sometimes and it helps me noticed the detail in every creature.
