Fishing
I wouldn’t mind more chef ingredients that involved fish coming from Barracudas and Tuna etc – but I think I’d rather dive down and hunt fish with my speargun than to stand there dangling a rod in the lake.
[Inserts Gilled Wars 2 pun here]
It would be cool if they offered both options.
I suppose if enough people in the community asked for it, then maybe it could be a possibility in the future. In other games I find it a nice way to kill time. There is also the random possibly of fishing cool items, and for collector it would be cool, as well as ingredient fishing.
To be honest don’t we already have fishing in game already… except we only cast into sand not water…..
Personally I’d love to see fishing added to the game.
I liked it allot back when I played vanilla & BC WOW.
Wasted many an hour when I couldn’t sleep just casting out and catching fish + the occasional sea monster.
This sounds pretty interesting! I hope they would put some cool reward or mechanics / achievement into it then it would be fun.
For example: Getting a Fish Finisher when you fish a lot or somethingXD

This is Anet we’re talking about. If they implemented it we’d be fishing up fish-shaped bags of ascended mats/blues/greens that hit DR after about 5 fish. Stuff like the fish finisher would be put into the gem store to celebrate the launch of such a feature, along with fish minis, 800 gem rod skins and special bait in BL chests.

Only if they add an achievement that gives the title “Master Baiter”.

Lol, or maybe ‘fishy fingers’ for those that manage to land 1000 fish. That’d be a cool title.
Welcome to the Internet, exposing characters since the early 80’s.
That would be cool to get titles and other rewards from fishing. Here’s to hoping it happens in the future
Id love to see fishing added to GW2, but I really hope it’s not like WoW fishing where you just have obscene amounts of fish, I always liked the games where fishing was more of a mini game and you got less fish overall, but each fish was worth more.
IE: every 1 fish in SWG would be worth the equivalent of 20 fish in WoW.

Yeah, this. Fishing is no fun if you catch something every time but it’s generally worthless. It should be a mix of skill and luck, and every time you catch something it could be a “Yay!” feeling.
You could catch a mix of all different kinds of fish, sunken bags of coin/junk items, mobs…like, maybe you catch a krait and in turn it catches you, yanking you into the water with a pull attack. And of course, the rare chance for valuable stuff, whether it’s like a chest or a rare fish that vendors for high value.
Fishing should put you into like a vista mode, too, where mobs can’t run up behind you and knock you out of it. Only hostile catches should be able to do that.
And certain kinds of fish would be region-specific. Catch different kinds in the Shiverpeaks than you would in Ascalon, etc. And I don’t imagine ANYTHING edible would come out of Orrian waters, just loot items and enemies.
Lastly, there would of course need to be some kind of achievement with a title…which I hope to god would award you with a helmet skin that looks like one of those ugly fishing hats covered in lures.
I wish they would add it.
Yes I would like to fishing
I’m for this.
…………..

+1 XD

Please anet make this happen.
Aside from different rod skins, there could be different lures you activate like a food buff that temporarily increase your odds of catching certain things.
Been requested for three years now. Maybe once HoT is out they’ll finally add it. One can dream. Sometimes all you want to do in a virtual world is to stand around throwing a line into the water, while you wait for the fish to bite and contemplate the meaning of virtual life. I really don’t see why they haven’t done it yet. I’m sure they can come up with a way to make it into a relatively engaging mini-game in its own right.
Seafarer’s Rest
LOTRO had fishing, titles and some fish can be made into trophies, then mounted on the wall of your house. With guild halls coming, maybe Anet could adopt this. I made some decent coin pulling a rare fish out of a stream for someone to put on their wall.
Fishing threads have popped up many times. What I’ve seldom seen is a suggestion as to how to avoid the need to keep your cursor over the bobber and your finger on the button ready to click at the random moment the bobber dips. I know that is designed to prevent bots from fishing. But it turns the activity into incredible tedium because I can’t type in chat — might miss the bobber — can’t spin my camera around — might miss the bobber — can’t look away from the screen — might miss the bobber. All I can do is stare at the screen for 20-30 seconds waiting to click.
Any ideas on how to make fishing dynamic?
Just go spearfishing. Plenty of “white” lake/river/ocean life in the game.

Considering those mechanics are very trivial from a bot’s perspective, it’s not because of botting. Fishing is generally like that because it’s easy to implement. More advanced fishing generally has mechanics where you have to track the shadow of a fish, then reel it in without breaking it.
You’d have an easier time casually fishing using the click the bobber mechanic than you would action fishing. Simply find the bobber, put your cursor over it and listen for the splash – no need to look.
I’m just surprised that there’s this much enthusiasm for a fishing mechanic. I’m curious – apart from being able to virtually fish, what would this add to the game? Personally I think it would be better implemented if they eventually fix underwater combat, and you could hunt down your fishy game and there could me “fish nodes” that you set traps at or something. But that’s just me!

All of my yes!

I get that some people really love the concept of fishing in games. More power to all of you; enjoy what you enjoy. But I just do not understand why it’s so popular. Fishing has never been something that I’ve liked doing or would make a point to do in any games I’ve played.
Different strokes for different folks, and all that.
before people say fishing is to lazy
try Vindictus SPEAR FISHING
you aim the spear gun at fish as they swim under you
i can see that for GW2
Man I would love it if they added fishing to this game, with some cool collection achievements to go with it!
I’d appreciate the addition. Loved fishing in WoW, you could even find rare mounts and other fun stuff.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I love fishing and cooking in final fantasy xiv very very fun
It would be cool if they offered both options.
i completely agree, i love the old fishing style and would love a more options for side game in the game.
