I saw a post about this right after the big patch hit, but nothing since. Transmuted item names are all messed up. The name of an item should be based on its skin, since the name and the look share a thematic connection, not based on the original item, which causes thematic mismatches and general wonkiness like epic items with lame names, and inconsistent names when you’ve applied a full set of skins (like from the gem store).

If nothing else, the naming convention should be that there are two names: a primary one based on skin, then a smaller descriptive one based on stats for quick reference. It is not necessary for the original or previous skin to be referenced anywhere.

I.e.
Ascended Claymore (primary name)
Berserker’s Greatsword of Fire (smaller font, descriptive name)

Item naming just needs to revert to the system used pre-patch, that was flawless. Our gear should be named after the skin, and any upgrades added.

E.g. ’Peacemaker’s Greatsword of the Berserker’ not ’Zojja’s Claymore’.

Yeah, I threw out the suggestion as a happy medium, but I’m inclined to agree that this is still better.

On a humorous light, someone was bragging at the Vigil Keep about having 4 Frostfangs.

Then they linked the “Frostfangs” and showed…

I actually think my biggest problem that results from this issue is that a lot of my favorite gear names are tied to items that are restricted to either rare quality or are skin only, like the Phalanx Warplate.

It’s just plain dumb to be wearing the gem store’s Phalanx Warplate but have it be called whatever the original armor was, which is likely to be something not even thematically appropriate to the look of the armor.

Yah, someone asked me about my scepter (Princess Wand skin). I pinged it and it showed the name of the scepter I put the skin on (Big Juju).
