Fix dynamic events!
The most common bug to stop events seems to be pathfinding related. The NPCs just don’t reach their destination and the whole eventchain stops.
How difficult is it to implement a timer that teleports the NPCs to their target location after enough time passed? Or teleport them back to their start position and have them run the path again, I don’t care.
It has passed almost three years and there are long-standing bugged events throughout our beloved Tyria. I can’t help but think you just don’t love the game core anymore… don’t you devs remember how you raised the events flag as THE game-selling feature? Events should be at the very least fixed. I was planning to create a topic to suggest expanding them, improving the current system and adding more to it, but how can that be possible if the base event chains are simply bugged?
Actually it’s worse than just being bugged, players have to pray to RNGsus that NPC’s don’t bug out and stop progress. Players do sometimes fear they’ll lose all their progress, be it instance events (dungeons anyone?) or open world events. It’s about time you fix your… events. We have to be extra cautious to get around them or we’ll be stuck and will have to redo from the start, or just give up on a chain event.
I see some GW1 bugs are now immortalized as development for that game has been halted so you could focus on GW2, but I didn’t want that development posture to revive here. You don’t just forget about an old event because you’re too focused on the next xpac, many players bought the core game and fell in love because of central Tyria no matter how hard you try to push new layouts. And that’s ok to be honest, just remember there are altoholics here that play the game multiple times and enjoy every time they play through a zone… only to find the same bugged events all over again.
This is frustrating, ArenaNet, I tell you. This is frustrating.
Care to list the events you having issues with?
That Dobbs guy in Timberline falls, who gives you the Ancient Summit Shoulder spikes for a collection. Or he’s supposed to. I’ve never been able to start whatever his event is.
And there’s those explorers in Cursed Shore that are always standing around talking about how much they’d like you to escort them… except you can’t.
Oh… and that npc in VB at the Ordinance rally point who is supposed to accept your salvage during his event.. only he never wants to take my salvage. Take it, kitten! Take my salvage!!

Odd, never had an issue with that one. Did it start after the April patch?

I’m not sure. I was able to give him salvage once, before I finished the Ordinance event chain. Since then, no.
How about the event: Rescue the villagers and defeat harpy kidnappers. It’s been bugged (and reported) since 2013. And then they made it a quest for the new legendary shortbow.
Not one, but TWO of the events needed for this journey, contain issues that get them “stuck”, and cannot progress.
“Escort the quaggan emissary to the kodan camp”, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Escort_the_quaggan_emissary_to_the_kodan_camp and
“Rescue the villagers and defeat harpy kidnappers”,
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rescue_the_villagers_and_defeat_harpy_kidnappersIf you look at the discussion pages for these quests, they have both been broken. Since 2013. 2013.
I’m at a loss to understand how it is that these bugs weren’t obvious, big blaring stoppers to launching this legendary journey – I mean, it’s not like they’re obscure? How do you create a legendary journey that involves not one, but two, two-year-old, progress-blocking bugs like that?
ANet may give it to you.

The quaggan one is supposed to be fixed(twice?) in recent patches.
The harpy one is just … something. Even when it doesn’t break the event doesn’t give any event credit.
I think the Legendary team putting collection pieces behind bugged events was their way of telling the Event team to fix the godkitten bugged events.
An unexpected result of pushing players back into the less used maps with the changes to the Dailies?
They need a watchdog on events so if they stall they will auto reset.
