This idea occurred to me as a result of the release of Reaper information, but is not specific to the Reaper. It’s basically a way to make a LOT of builds much more PvE friendly in this game, specifically those that are based around AoE abilities. As it stands now, AoE builds (as Reapers seem to be) are fine with dealing with trash mobs, but can be kind of useless against single enemies, and almost all content worth doing involves ultimately fighting one target with a couple dozen players, so abilities that only shine when hitting 3-5 enemies become worthless much of the time.
The solution to this is, convert large champ and boss mobs into multi-targets.
That is to say, instead of a Mordrem Troll or a Terragriff being a single target that only takes one hit from an AoE attack, make them so that they have multiple hit locations within a single hit radius, a bit similar to the larger dragon enemies, only closer together. In this way, an attack that is only worth using when it hits five enemies is now worth using, because that one enemy will count as if it was five enemies.
I think this would really make a lot more of the games content accessible to a lot more builds.
Doing this will make condi dps fall even further behind power builds.
Except with multiple targets, multi-target condi appliers will apply multiple condi stacks as well. And if they manage to fix condi damage stacking, it would mean condis would be doing more damage too. If they don’t manage to fix condi stacking then condis are kittened either way, so the point is moot.
I think in HoT you’re going to see more group mobs to fight against that aren’t trash, but that’s just my opinion(they did mention the possibility of fighting up to 3 Wyverns at the same time).
That may be the case, but I’m not sure I’d want to get close enough to three Wyverns to cleave all of them with a greatsword on a Necro.
In any case, I highly doubt that the need to fight single target champs will become completely obsolete.
Staff ele is already the highest DPS build in game on most “large champ and boss mobs”.
If you put five hit locations on a boss, staff eles will do 5x as much damage since everything is aoe.
(As a staff ele I’m not opposed to this idea)

Unless AE damaged is changed to be divided among targets.
I don’t see any justification for why a build has to have the best of both worlds being good at AoE and single target.

In theory, it wouldn’t have to be, but if the game’s content puts a much higher priority on single target, as it seems to do, then it’s the game’s obligation to allow AoE builds to be balanced against that content.
