Fixing pointless karma merchents?
They’re not 100% useless. They will at least -buy- things from you that you want to vendor. But yeah, they should expand their inventory.
Maybe they’re really there to provide visual flavor and fill up the cities with NPC bodies while still having a use as a general merchant. The karma items might be there to give new players the realization that items can be bought with karma.
ANet may give it to you.
I don’t know if you know this but the karma merchants that sell bell peppers and ginger are actually a “fix” to a significantly older problem.

Mind saying what that problem was…..

“Arenanet have permanently banned 3,000 players from Guild Wars 2 for taking advantage of an exploit that allowed them to craft high level weapons at “one thousandth of their normal price.” An emergency patch has closed the loophole and players that “significantly” exploited it have been thrown out of the game. 72 hour suspensions were dished out to lesser offenders."

That’s not the same merchants. Those were the cultural weapons merchants. There was one weapon priced at 64 karma instead of 64,000 karma. People bought thousands of those weapons and mystic forged them to get salvageable rares, exotics and precursors.

This morning there was a widely-publicized, newly-introduced exploit in which specific cultural weapons were selling for one-thousandth of their normal price. We fixed it with an emergency build this morning. We want to thank the vast majority of players who became aware of the issue, responsibly reported it, and did not exploit it. However, a smaller group of players did significantly exploit it, each purchasing hundreds or thousands of these weapons. We permanently banned 3,000 accounts of players who substantially exploited it, and applied 72-hours bans to another 1,000 accounts of players who mildly exploited it.
The karma weapons merchants are still there selling their weapons. We’re talking about the ones that sell a couple of cooking ingredients.

The thing I wish was fixed with those Merchants is the tool-tip given when mousing over them on the World Map and Mini Map.
It always says ‘Buy Crafting Recipes’. As far as I’ve seen, they have never sold recipes, crafting or otherwise.
ANet has to overwork in general the whole Karma Reward System.
It has been mostly since game release total garbage.
Yes, Karma is the easiest currency to gain, but that hasn’t to mean automatically, that the rewards you can get from it must be everywhere total garbage.
The Item Lists of basically all Karma Mechants of the Game should get overlooked and reworked so that they provide alot more interesting things you can buy from them via Karma.
And that these things are also not only like 90% one time buy items, but they should also provide alot of interesting and USEFUL things for the player, that the player wants to buy CONTINOUSLY from them with Karma and now comes the important clue – that are items, which the player can RECEIVE ONLY from those Merchants and NOWHERE ELSE in the whole game, so that Karma becomes more meaningful in this game.
Each Karma Merchant has to be INDIVIDUAL, there should be no Merchant, which should sell the exactly same 2-3 items only like the game has currently tons of these useless Karma merchants that sell the exact same few items since release of the game…
it should become also finally possible to buy ascended equippment for huge amounts of karmas.. we can buy exotic equipment with it.. so tell me one good reason why we shouldn’t be also able to buy ascended gear with just only huge amounts of karma, if a player has so gigantic much of it and doesn’t know where or how to spent it on somethign that benefits that player, before all of it just lies around on that players accoutn as useless dead weight…
Players should be able to buy with huge amounts of Karma for instance also more item skins or Black Lion Ticket Scraps so that people can slowly work also on those skins.
Karma is simply the games most underused vanilla game currency and I think this has to be changed.

I think it has changed, recently, with the new items being offered for Karma, and the other reasons to spend Karma.
I know I’ve gone from around 6 million Karma to just over 1 million Karma in the last couple of months.
I don’t think it’s likely they are going to go back to vanilla Tyria and revamp any of the karma merchants (which are available to f2p players) to give them new and interesting items to buy when they can instead put these new and interesting items on karma merchants in the new maps.

There are plenty of useful items to buy for karma. It takes something like 6.3 million karma to buy all of the T3 cultural weapons. Then you have something like 1.5 million karma worth of minis and other stuff from the vendors in EB and BF, and if that trend continues the next few maps will also be selling stuff for 100k+ karma as well.
I have twenty billion karma.

Wintersday, unbound mining tools, and pact scout’s mapping materials brought me from 5 mil to 200k. I went from being unable to spend it because it was so very useless to not being able to obtain enough of it for everything.
^Indeed. Now I run around with Karma Boosters on.
We get new players into the game all the time. Some stay and some go but they are still new players that are just starting out that need those materials from those “useless” karma merchants. Which to the new players are not useless.
As someone who crafts their own dyes and subsequently salvages them for the pigment pouches, the karma vendors that sell food items are very useful to me.

That’s interesting. I checked and couldn’t find a dye recipe which uses bell pepper or ginger (the two items that the merchants being discussed here sell). Can you give me a link?

That’s likely mostly due to the boxes from the wintersday karma vendor. I dropped like 5 mil karma on those last year (and this year) too. On the other hand, i earned way more karma between previous and last wintersday, so i am still ahead (even after including frequent purchases from pact merchants and the new areas).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
There is no need to remove ginger selling karma vendors in the city, they dont bother anyone and some recipies still exist that use those mats.
If anything they should add more to those karma vendors, expand their inventory, or add a mini game where you are required to do a small scavenger hunt to buy other acc bound karma materials such as almond, cherries and bananas and bring them to them for extra karma/gold reward.
There are tons of karma sinks in this game, mostly are newly added. If you are looking at those 300 karma green jotun great sword some renown heart vendor in the lvl 25 zone is selling then youre looking the wrong way.
-minipets
-Exclusive karma exotic armor /skins
-Cultural weapons/skins
-Pact supplier
-Wintersday gifts
-Obsidian shards (yes you can get those from other places, but you cant say youd rather keep your 3mill karma and pvp or farm stuff to get the shards)

For me, no. I didn’t buy any Wintersday boxes, or whatever they are.
I had 4mill karma, ( I know some people here have 1 billion karma or more, not comparing) , anyways, I used up 2million+ when Ember Bay landed…..by the time I get to A Crack in the Ice, I am back up to 4million + karma…..then I use 3million + Karma for that and now I am back up to 4million+ karma again……..
Those vendors need to expand their inventory to sell other stuffs……. at least let people use karma to buy some common items……like those Heart vendors, selling Salvaging kits for karma instead of coins…….
I wish once you unlocked a merchant you would get a merchant in the home instance that offers the same items so we don’t have to chase all over the game to find specific items.
