Please…. Dont give us pre-existing armor and place them on the gem store for 800 gems! What a rip off! I know you guys(Arenanet) said that its hard for you guys to make new armors due to all the races and female/male sets. To make armor Arenanet has multiple things in mind. For example,

• Armor type (Heavy, Medium, Light) 3x
• Race 5x
• Gender 2x

Making that 30 different armor types Arenanet would have to make for one single armor style! :0 ! However, Do you guys think these armors are worth it considering they are just remakes in a different color?

Considering i pay less than half that in other games for skins
I guess I can expect at least something original and not a
cheap knockoff of already existing armor.

They’re just so pleased with themselves that they managed to combine fire, trenchcoats, and enraging every player who has ever bought a cultural armor piece (for astounding amounts of gold) all at the same time.

Those definitely look like reskins. Why are reskins 45+ gold? At the current exchange rate that is.

I know players will buy this stuff, but c’mon. Instead of doing flames over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, can we get:
Foefire
More radiant
Shadow Shadoe Chado (like the grinning ghastly shield)
Branded
Aura imbued stuff

I mean at least make the fire flame stuff with the option of being abled to be dyed. 1 year in and I don’t think I have in my 14 years of playing MMO’s seen any game reskin so much.

Not going to say lazy as I’m sure anet’s hands are full behind the scenes but I can’t help but think it. There was a meeting and this passed muster, somewhere a long the lines no one says to themselves " Don’t we have this skin already?", “Don’t we have enough flame themed items in game so far?”

BTW, I already wear pieces of the WVW med armor set on my thief. I personally will never buy this. I like it because the coat is one of the better looking ones to me. It also was nice that WvW had it’s own skins just like every other part of the game.

What’s next? Dungeon Armor in the gem store. Dungeon armor “ON FLAMES” (in my Jon Stewart from half -baked voice) Everyday I’m getting closer and closer to just giving up on this game.

Feels like they just copy/pasted the flames from one of the other flame sets and had three new armors in less than ten minutes job. Easy money.

Half the price of the cultural gear its copying and it doesnt even need transmutation crystals to put it on your exotic gear. I can only see a negative if you payed 120g+20g for the transmutation crystals and now an even more unique version is out.

I just wish they’d change all cultural to be purchasable like this. Though I may be biased since Ive only bought ~3 T3 across all races combined.

oh and the heavy/medium skins are available for practically free from wvw vendors… those are truly a waste of development time.

I dont care tbh since I never use real Money for Gems but I would like to say aNet dont start travelling down this road of re-skins useing already existing stuff it only has one stop: LazyVille

I’ve seen better content come out of small studio low budget F2P games then this. This is pathetic. Someone needs to lose their job over there, likely their lead project manager.

As if we haven’t had enough light armored human players running around wearing practically the same T3 set. Now we get more clones of other races running around with a reskinned version! And they’re from the gemstore! LOL

A little note from a 3D character artist who’s been around:

People seem to think that ArenaNet artists have to model all 30 sets to release a single set for the public, however this is a false notion. They start out with a base male and female model, then design the 3 armor sets off of those – often reusing assets from the first model (usually male). In this case, from scratch, they’re most often only modeling 3 armor sets with select separate meshes, taking about the time it would take for 4-5 sets. This may take anywhere from 18 hours to 48 hours depending on time allotted and the amount of detail your goal is set for. The hard part is over, and now the 6 armor sets are soft transformed and stretched/compressed to fit both the race, sex and 6 to 10 body types which may take another 4 hours. All in all, when creating game assets for a larger client it takes around 30 hours of pure work time to finish an armor set with the same requirements ArenaNet has, purely for one armor set. That’s 4 days of a full-time job for one set of armor for each armor tier, and that’s entirely too much time to spend on one armor set. I’m not sure where I was going with this, just giving some insight on the process I suppose, but I hope you guys see why they reuse assets rather than creating entirely new ones from scratch. Texturing is the easy part once you’ve got your mesh modeled and unwrapped (GODS BE DREADED UNWRAPPING — this takes the longest, unless you’re a pro and use zBrush magic or UVLayout), so ‘reskinning’ armor is a much quicker alternative when your publisher is pushing for a new armor set every 2 weeks in the gem store while your character artists are also designing new creatures, props, weapons and more.
