First of all, the WvW changes will be in this update – it has been confirmed by devs. The small blurb about the living story obviously isn’t going to be the entire update…

For the expansion, it is not confirmed when it will happen, but this year is definitely not out of the question.

ArenaNet, thanks for the teaser, this is an interesting thing.

I hope upcoming Living Story bits after Flame and Frost will be a little faster paced or at least have more significant pieces to each arc part. This was a decent first outing, and I would like to see you improve.

I must be honest, so far the Living Story hasn’t really had much story in it….or content in general. While previous monthly patches kept me busy for days, I’ve been able to easily sit down and finish each new part of the Living Story within a single day’s play time, and that’s despite having less time available to play than ever before. So I’m not really all that interested in the continuation of the story just yet, because it really hasn’t gone anywhere yet.

I’ve also noticed that, yet again, the goalposts have been shuffled backwards a little. Now the story is four months long? It was originally a Jan/Feb patch, then they pushed it back to being just a teaser for Jan and Feb/March would be the bulk of the patch. Now, everything up to now was just “teaser” stuff, and the real bulk of the content is for March and April. If this patch isn’t significantly large and we’re later told that it was just more “teaser” material, I’m going to be extremely disappointed. Just be honest with us, guys….if you need to push content back, push it back and then tell us that you needed more time. Simple. Don’t overhype the patch as being huge if it’s not huge.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

WvWvW update is not an expansion and rather features that should of been implemented either with release or within months of release like individual actual progression.

Also no expansion this year http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/03/05/no-guild-wars-2-expansions-currently-planned.

Considering the Living Story is one the most boring things every implemented into a mmo this patch is very underwhelming.

Is the Living Story update the only thing this month?

We were promised an expansions worth of content, and if you combine the January, February and now March patches we have not even seen a quarter of content that an expansion should bring.

More lies and broken promises, nothing to look forward to.

Honestly after rushing out to patch broken signs and collect stuff off dead bodies, then a whole month of nothing…

I have totallu lost interest in any of this. Hell I dont even know where the second part takes place and I doubt ill do it.

Anet we hate 1 time only events. But there is something worse then that. 1 month time gaps in a “living story”.

Totally dead IMO.

I seriously think we’re being trolled by Arenanet at this point. Someone is like “Let’s make em milk cows this month! teeheehee”

Jan patch gave us almost nothing: fine, it’s a new year, we’ll wait for Feb,
Feb patch gave us almost nothing: fine, wait for March….

The immense gating on guild missions makes them barely worth calling content. WvW is still the same pointless, cumbersome, culling disaster it was at launch. Dungeons are still largely unplayed unless they are CoF. Fractals only appeal to a slim population. (Honestly, how many of you care to do fotm 60+??)

Nothing to do, nothing to see in GW2. Just another badly implemented game overhyped before launch and full of promises the devs can’t deliver on.

Please Arenanet, if you’re not gonna give us anything, just be honest and say next patch: nothing! Don’t whiz on us and tell us its raining…

February update was horrible for farmers.

It destroyed the last known farming spot im gw2. So many people quit because of that and the dragon overflow maps.

I have taken a hit income wise. I like to farm and im pretty sure most people do to.

I saw so many people quit. I feel like they are take steps backwards. If people LIKE stuff, dont take it away, build on it. Because its starting to get to people.

I just hope wvw is more rewarding. Im tried of hitting F on a loot bag and getting a spike. Seriously.

We see a Story Teaser with no factual content, but hey, everyone is rushing to conclusions…

We see players that thought the game would fit 100% on his/hers expectations. Newsflash: Don’t like it? Stfu, and Gtfo!

Living story part 1 and 2 didn’t suit you? Why do we care about what you whiners want? If ANet is commited to change some core mechanics of the game, i’m fine with it. Previous updates intended to change some gaps that tormented this game. It’s not done yet, and a lot more is yet to do, but hey let’s bash the game because a small amount of forum whiners just can’t move on…

You guys complain too much. If you think GW2 isn’t worth playing then stop playing it.

As far as Flame & Frost is concerned, it is true that the implementation of it has been a bit slow (although I think we technically got two parts in one month? So perhaps not slow, but underwhelming)

Now, maybe that was intended to build up the whole living story (which, let us be reminded, is in its infant stage…) and the real deal will come now, two to three weeks later I believe?

Then again, it’s a living story, meaning that as in real life : things don’t change over night. I think there’s great potential and that this could be a great way to introduce new content without having our locations changed drastically after patch day. Things change bit by bit, and then more stuff happens.

First we had the refugees being driven away by a threat, then we learned of that threat, helped the refugees and started fighting the scouting forces of that Dredge/Charr army, and now we’re going head to head against it.

I like the concept a lot, just might need a little tweaking not to feel underwhelming and go less unnoticed.

I think this living story is taking too long to build up. When they first announced it and did the pre event stuff, with the sign posts, I thought okay they are building it up. Then the next update came out and it was just some Flame Legion and Dredge!. Now the third sounds the same as to what we have been doing already. So unless they make it amazing group events and really encourage me to do it, why should I? I lost all my hype for it a long time ago. I also prefer the dungeon type of story moments, like they did in the Halloween update. So for the last part, please give us a small but fun dungeon to do.

So does this mean we’re fighting more numbers of flame legion and dredge again?

More portals?
More holes to plug up?

From that, All I read was “This story isn’t really going to progress until the final instalment”. Obviously, i’m open to whatever they come up with that DOES further the story.

This Living Story should have evolved over 4 weeks not 4 months.

Right now this “Living” Story is dead, it is so incredibly boring and poorly implemented.

January: You go to the location talk to one or two people and then there is nothing to do for a month.

February: Go to the location kill a few people, get bored in 30minutes, nothing to do for the rest of the month.

March: Two new characters introduced, let me guess what is going to happen… we go to a location talk to this new person, possibly one new event that we will be bored off in 10minutes, nothing to do for the rest of the month.

This “Living” Story, is slow, dull, stale, painful, poorly designed and poorly implemented.

If it unfolded over 4 weeks at least it would be moving fast enough for us to have a mild interest.

ArenaNet love their teases. Assuming the Living Story concludes at the end of April, my guess would be that something much larger is coming, than has come with the previous three months. Over all this time we are being led to believe that something is coming, now we are told it’s a Dredge-Flame legion alliance. March’s update will be another teaser for sure. It’s all designed to make you aware of something that’s going to happen – it is sufficient to keep up interest and maybe remind players to keep checking back in, even if they are off playing other games.

You sort of miss the whole point too. See above.

Yea, I’d agree that March’s update probably wont bring an awful lot. BUT…whether you agree with the content of ArenaNet’s updates or not, they invariably deliver more than you’d think…which leads me to believe that April (assuming April is the conclusion) should be pretty interesting.

I hope this Living Story leads to a total extermination of the Dredge.

Once I would have agreed with you. That was before Frostgorge Sound map completion. The dredge are a tragic race, first abused by others, now their own kind.

I always moan when I have to face the Dredge. They are just that good at foiling my plans. They are a formidable force when they band together. As annoying as this allience of the Flame Legions and Dredge is, and I will fight it tooth and nail, I do not want to eradicate the race of Dredge. In fact, this allience proves they can join others in a fight. We need the Dredge when Primordus’ armies surface.

Hating Dredge is easy since they are not pretty unlike silky coated moles. Hating Dredge is easy, because they are representing something that many of us were taught to fear and the very worst end of the spectrum too.

We have met an insane inventor caught up in a vendetta against a dead race, but he was not unopposed among his own. The Dredge may seem the same to us, but there are smart ones, stupid ones, totally brainwashed ones, rebellious ones, good ones and bad ones, loyal ones and ones looking for their own betterment at the cost of anyone, or everyone, else.

I don’t want the Dredge gone. I just don’t want to fight against them, if I have a choice.

Don’t like it? Stfu, and Gtfo!

You guys complain too much. If you think GW2 isn’t worth playing then stop playing it.

Most people don’t complain about changes to a game on its official forums if they intend to quit playing that game anyways. They complain about the game in an effort to get the developers to listen to their perspective so that they don’t have to quit the game.

The only ones who do complain and then quit anyways are those who are demanding attention, and they merit precisely as much attention as they typically get: not all that much.

What is the problem with people on this forum and their refusal to listen to any complaints? The things most often complained about are often perfectly valid, real problems with the game that should honestly be addressed, and yet this forum has an entire faction of people dedicated to ignoring any and all complaints about the game. It’s one thing to ignore silly complaints, it’s quite another to ignore a glaring flaw in the game (like the lack of reliable grouping tools).

Same as Hound here, I support and encourage constructive criticism. However most of the posts in this topic are “omg such garbage”.

Nothing about the Living Story so far has enticed me to give it so much as a glance.

Aside from it’s terribly slow pacing I had the misfortune to complete the “Personal Story” – which I’ll always hold as an example of one of the most terrible pieces of writing in video games and my base expectations for the production of Anets writing team- You can consider my opinion coloured by that terrible adventure in making a green star vanish from the top right of my screen.

Looking at a quick guide for the actual events they consist of
-Hammering in Signs (Go to x Location and push interact)
-Returning Momento’s (Go to x Location and push interact)
and 2 types of events seen elsewhere already
-Plug holes to prevent storms reeks of the same event for the Ancient Karka where you set boulders on steam vents
-Close portals (Maw/Shadow Behemoth)

The rewards are quite paltry and I’m sure if you’ve read the rest of this thread you can gather a general consensus of how people feel about the dredge.

Hopefully one of the two new NPC’s are mildly entertaining and don’t get shipped on a bus to summer camp never to return like Tybalt/Forgal/Seiren.

tl;dr – Slow pacing, poor rewards, copy pasted events

I say this because since October and November, patches have been consistently in an “un-ready” state…. and if that’s what they consider ready then I fear what the perfect patch would be like.

Yeah, I hate fighting Dredge more than anything else in this game. I wish they could at least be thinned out some by these events. Also, they have let us know that January and February have been more for introducing other things into the game, and the story aspects have been secondary in those patches. I think these will be okay story-wise, and I think they’ll be able to add enough to at least keep ME content. I also have faith that they’ll get better at making these bits of story content as time goes on, we’re still in their first attempts of doing some of these types of things.

And I have to admit that I haven’t seen higher quality patches. In fact I worry that quality is going down, not up. Just looking at Feb’s patch, for example, they had to reset the servers several times after it rolled due to major bugs that it introduced.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

Colin went on record saying that after the rush of the Lost Shores and Halloween patches, they’ve switched back to a “when it’s ready” model of development.

Expect more delays with higher quality releases going forward.

Other than that, we’ve known Flame and Frost was a 4 part series since the second week of February.

Well the events they are putting out for these story are not buggly and they do not cause lag. So they are higher quality just not that big as the 30$ expansion they are more like 10$ ones but they are still free.

And yet, many of the things they’ve introduced in the last two months have caused significant problems.

Guesting, for example, has created a system whereby people who play on Server X can’t even play the game on their own server because the guested players have flooded their high population server to farm World Events.

Jan’s patch introduced “something” (they never told us what) that was supposed to help cut down on problems in WvW rendering, and it only made the rendering problems even worse than before, to the point where people started having the problem in PvE as well (which is why the recent dev claims that March’s patch would strike a major blow to culling are being taken with the tiniest grain of salt by many).

It’s true that the new story content hasn’t been majorly buggy, but there hasn’t actually been much of it, either. But that’s not the problem. The problem is that the claim that patches of “higher quality” have been coming out recently isn’t really all that accurate. What we’ve been seeing is more large-scale problems introduced by a team that likely didn’t think the consequences of that change through. This is why so many have clamored for a PTR, so that the players can tell the devs “hey, this thing isn’t working quite right” and the big bugs get squashed before they go live.

I honestly think MMO players must be one of the most hard to please, impatient and pedantic groups of people on the planet. Nothing is ever good enough.

Well that more of exploitation by the players there not too much Anet can do about it beyond baning ppl. Look at it this way you have Lag or you have overflow things are working right just ppl are taking advantages of it.

No it was not to cut it they where trying to and they where testing more ways to deal with it and it did work to a point but if you have a old pc or your web not up to part your still going to have some lag time to lode up 100+ ppl in wvw.

What been buggly beyond the things that have been buggly from the start? I think your asking for something that cant be done in one or 2 updates your view are unreal for ppl to do. There are limits to what can be done in a set time.

Well let’s be honest it didn’t deserve headliner billing for the Jan/Feb patch.es It’s not a real part of the first 2 patches of 2013, but teased as some future content.

Jan was about laurels/guesting/end of free transfers/lots of random fixes.

Feb was about guild missions/more fixes and adjustments.

Which is fine but it’s odd that they billed F&F events as the headliner. It has definitely not been so far and now it’s a situation where it almost feels like they need to “make up” for two missing months as much as kick something off finally. We’ll see what happens I guess.
