It is currently 7am PST on the 28th which means the patch will launch sometime in the next 17 hours.

I will post periodic updates for people that do not understand time zones

Listen, stop being conceited.

It’s not about people not understanding timezones, it’s about announcing to a global (please understand this includes places outside of the USA) audience than an update will happen on the 28th when it in fact won’t.

The problem is that people need to understand that Anet’s times are based on PST which is the server’s time. But people assume that the time they say is according to the time zone they live. So the moment it hits 12 am on the 28th wherever they live they expect the patch out at that moment.

Meaning that for the patch to hit exactly the instant it hits the 28th on the planet earth, Anet would have to be in their office working at 10am on sunday.

I understand that fine.

What I don’t understand is what’s so hard about typing “28th Jan USA, 29th everywhere else”

Rather than “28th of Jan”.

Understand?

Just knowing how timezones work would immediately tell you when to expect it. I don’t think there’s a need to put EXPECT IT ON THE 28th Western Hemisphere/29th Eastern Hemisphere when announcing the date.

thay dont want us to all log in at the same time and crash everything, thats why thay dont give us a time

…Um, that’s STILL going to happen regardless when they just give a date and no time- possibly even more likely by doing it this way because people are avidly trying to get information. This is a silly way to do business. I love some aspects of ANET (great dev team, so-so live team, bleh PR team), but this is just pointless.

What this REALLY is, if people haven’t figured it out, is an excuse clause. Basically, they don’t want to have any griping about not delivering what was promised on time, so they just give a date. This opinion is easily backed up by the subtle back-stepping and vague update announcements void of great detail in the past months. They are simply becoming afraid to come even close to promising anything.

you little kids are so funny to watch falling all over yourselves trying to figure this out lol. releases always go off of “server time and dates” which is the west coast time they are based in. I know they didn’t give a specific time yet but they’re probably running patch integrity checks or something. but for those crying about it not being done on their schedule, go to the menu in game and set your game clock to server time then you can pretend you’re on schedule. lolz silly kids. calmness down

Actually, I’d go so far as to say, the lack of patch notes until well after the patch is released is the excuse clause. Meaning that they can literally count all the changes that they actually got compared to the ones they wanted to get

As someone that doesn’t just play NA MMOs, it’s kind of funny about the timezone issues.

On one side you have EU wanting their time included, while NA calls them complainers. However, in other MMOs, the situation is reversed for the companies that do the same biased updating. You’ll have NA complaining about being treated un-fairly.

I will say this:

If a company is going to reach across the globe for someones money they should be willing to accommodate them. Yes, this includes proper times so players on both sides can get an idea of when to expect an update.

I don’t wanna live a thousand years. If I just live through today, that’ll be enough.

They don’t usually give specific times “officially”. I’m betting on a 1:00 or 2:00 pm pst launch which gives them a few hours to see if anything game breaking happens before they go home for the night. Seems to be what they’ve done in the past.

What some people don’t seem to understand is that on the official french, german and spanish parts of the website/forums it’s stated that it comes on the 28th, without specifying anything else. However, as many posters have already said, I don’t expect the patch/event to be deployed until the dailies reset, and what’s worse is that I think that’s the plan that Anet has had all along. That would make it arrive on the 29th for 3/4 of the world, and I think that that’s the problem: their lack of proper care/communication, not when they actually deploy the patch.

You can’t expect players to “imagine” that something won’t happen at a specified date on their localized websites if it’s not stated otherwise.

I was actually once in Personal Story when a patch hit. I got a 15 minute warning, which was enough time to wrap tings up. Has anyone been in a dungeon at a time like that?

Haven’t ALL other patch dates and times ALWAYS been announced in terms of PST where the company is based? If you haven’t figured it out after 4 months of patches, I’d say at this point, you’re kinda dense.

The only specific time they released was Lost Shores. Other updates just happen when they happen, but they’ve always had a date attached and it’s sometimes been the same day across the globe and sometimes it’s drifted into the next day for most of it – hence this thread.

Look, it’s a global game.

So. What?

No, really. So. What?

If they have a release advertised at 28th January with no qualifying arguments, then that kinda infers that it will be released at some point on the 28th of January for everyone that can read the announcement.

If you are so concenerned that all but exactly 1 possible 24 hour span will have 2 calandar dates associated with it, and you see an announcement that mentions only a single day, there are only 2 plausible conclusions – they’re locking themselves to GMT or they are using the clock right there in the office with them.

Now, lets rub that teeny, tiny bit of logic against previous experience.

Yeah.

Just knowing how timezones work would immediately tell you when to expect it. I don’t think there’s a need to put EXPECT IT ON THE 28th Western Hemisphere/29th Eastern Hemisphere when announcing the date.

Good grief, it’s argue with the moron brigade time again.

If it is not going to reach live status by the time the 28th ends outside of the US, they should tell people, because, once again, it’s a global game and not just for the USA. Global = places all around the world.

Understanding time zones doesn’t matter – if a company says “released on the 28th”, only has one site for the whole world, then that would mean it releases on the 28th, for the whole world.

I don’t even mind if they say “it might be the 29th for EU / AUS / ASIA”, at least they’re acknowledging the other 50/60% of their playerbase.

Agreed.
I guess some people just want to say “hey, you should know”. They’re probably also in the US and rarely have to deal with a lack of info on timings.

But they’ve probably never ever looked at film release dates(which always state the release dates of each area of the world they’ve distributed to), game release dates (which do the same), and games that apply patches for NA servers up to 2 days before throwing it on the EU servers.

That last statement pretty much sums it up, but for those out there who are struggling in their attempts to “appear right”, I’ll break it down for you:

Time zone “A” and time zone “B” are on opposite sides of the planet.
Person in time zone “A” reads “patch on Jan 28th” on their native website.
Person in time zone “B” reads ""patch on Jan 28th" on their native website as well.

NOW do you all see the issue some others have been well justified in pointing out?

I’m thinking because people have inexplicably decided that Americans have recently started to give a soft white kitten about any timezones but the one they are in at that exact moment.

Come on people. Our country is 4 hours wide. We make corrections for people speaking from their own reference point as a matter of course. When you are in L.A. and on the phone with someone in New York and they say they can’t because they are having lunch at 2, you generally assume 2 o’clock according to their own watch they just looked down at, and do the math in your head.

Just a tip, it might be better to just clearify the releases a bit more. Like this: January 28 (before 23:59h PST), instead of just: January 28. Though it would be great if you could either give us an expected time (you can probably tell if it’s a morning release or an evening release up front) or at least keep us a little bit more up to date. Either on the forum through announcements or some sort of newsletter that’s sent out an hour before release to notify everybody instead of just rolling it out at a random time (for us). You can use social media as well, but please use all of them then and not only 1 or 2 because not everyone has everything :P

Good grief, it’s argue with the moron brigade time again.

Look, it’s a global game. If they have a release advertised at 28th January with no qualifying arguments, then that kinda infers that it will be released at some point on the 28th of January for everyone that can read the announcement.

Yes, I understand that Anet could have put 28th/29th.

But person in time zone “A” who lives in the same time zone will be like "Okay, so it’ll be out before 11:59 PM my time.

While the person in time zone “B” will be like “Okay, so it’ll be out before 3:59 AM for me tomorrow”

I’m sorry but knowing Time Zones do matter. It’s not hard at all to know how this works and shouldn’t be an excuse to complain because people are to ignorant to understand that Anet doesn’t revolve around their local time.

The basic problem is that on all EU localisation sites it says 28th January, without qualification.

Obviously if they know it’s going to actually launch on the 29th in this region (and AUS / Asia) then they should actually take the effort to keep the other 3/4 of the world properly informed.

I really think they’d save themselves a lot of bother if they’d just announce update dates properly.

28th US
29th EU
29th AUS / Asia.

It’s not hard is it? It’s just a couple of seconds extra typing. Gotta laugh at the Americans saying “oh it’s obvious that it’s catered for us” – showing their typical total ignorance of the rest of the world.

And the rest of the world showing their typical inability or unwillingness to perform logic surrounding something like timezones and the physical location of anet’s offices. (It’s why the USA is still #1)

Yeah.

That was hard.

Global means that dates should apply to everyone – if they don’t they should be corrected to reflect that.

It’s not easy for Americans to get that, I know.

The brilliant minds at ANet are currently working on a patch that will alter the Time/Space Continuum so that the same date happens for everyone around the world simultaneously.

This new technology will launch when it’s ready.

Again, please stop being conceited.

Either that or try reading the contents of people’s posts, if it’s within your ability.

Ok now you’re just getting upset. I am on your side about ANET posting the correct times, but Karizee was just poking a little harmless fun, and frankly I thought it was amusing.

I actually quoted the wrong post

Why is it that you think the EU doesn’t have different timezones?

Again, it even states on the EU VERSIONS OF THE GUILD WARS 2 PAGES that launch is the 28th. THESE ARE PAGES SPECIFIC TO THE EU.

So we should expect it on the 28th because our own pages have that information correct?

This thread is asking for the Launch Time (Anets time). Why all the long paragraphs?

Long paragraphs are the results of people trying to argue against logic. =)

So many times i feel like asking: could you please narrow this down to a few main sentences? lol

That’s a bit obtuse. I don’t see evidence of anyone here expecting Anet to “revolve around their local time”- in fact exactly the opposite. They are simply asking, “when?” It’s really not too much to ask when you have the same thing posted on all websites. Oh, I’m sorry, did we give up our rights to ask simple questions and question the decisions of Anet when we signed up for accounts? Forums are here for people to ask questions, let them live.

let’s talk about the logic of imperial vs metric system :-)

As long as the update comes before 29th I’m happy. Still 6 hours left to see it happening! ^^

I agree with you.

The main problem here is that even MMO like LOTRO managed to start events at all servers at the same time in every timezone. Why can’t ANet do that too?

Clearly the EU has different timezones lol…

But that doesn’t change the fact Anet’s company time is PST… so whether they type it out or not, this is going to effect anything time or date related they post. And this is why I fired back at your “big dumb American” sentiment, just take any time or date they post as PST and adjust to your timezone accordingly rather than getting your panties in a twist under your lawsuit
