Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm
It makes me so sad to say this but currently Guild Wars 2 has the worst PVE in the history of MMO’s.
You my friend have never played Runescape or Real War or anything by GPotato or Areia Games . I could continue if you like ? Ive played some really aweful ones and GW1 is nowhere NEAR the worst in fact its top tier
I have to chime in here. (WARNING – Wall of Text)
Anet had a prelude for flame and frost…. Jan 28th to Feb 4th.. The prelude was rather lame in my opinion took a hour or two to complete. They introduced laurels with items that were obscure to most except for the massive 30 laurels for a amulet for agony resist. The other items were ranger boxes that didnt even give ranger equipment and the others are not worth the time (barring the mystic binding agents but reading so far they are not worth the investment. google it.)
Now we are looking at the next part of the event is Feb 28th so in essence this prelude is over a month long with one event that lasted a couple of hours, no new gear except a amulet for fractals. The only cosmetic upgrade in this prelude was one you had to buy from the cash shop. The new daily achievement does have me moving to new areas and wasting money only so i can find the 5 vets ya want me to kill, or looking for npcs that are dead, or my favorite the underwater combat that is by far the worst thing in this game but you force me to do it.
But yet Colin wants to let us know the WvW update will be postponed until then. I dont mind the WvW it is a good time, but lets be honest its a zerg fest. How can you beat a Zerg.. maybe postpone it for a little bit but with the current game mechanics it is not possible. (I know you are working on it)
I dont play this game for the PvP, its there for an addition to the overall gameplay but the current trend is that you are working on Spvp new maps(play this specific map only for this patch)… no one plays Spvp get over it, why would someone “grind” for gear to only have all of it taken away. So any newbie can all of a sudden be a god at level 1 and play the “Flavor of the Month” play class. I applaud your enthusiam but giving a player free roam without anytime invested in the game to pick out any stat equipment and slot skills and then wanting people to enter a paid tournament with these players is absolutely asinine. I played a Spvp a few times and no one in my guild with over 500 members play them…. the reason why is no incentive. Also a easy way to faceroll someone is do the FOTM class since all you need is a class 1.
I will give ya some time to work out what you want to do, But as of late as far as the PvE aspect of the game , fractals great, all other events up until this one was great, WvW needs some help but not at the expense of the overall PvE community which is your backbone. Spvp, scrap it. It should be a level 80 game with the equipment and traits they worked for.
P.S – are jewelers just pointless now since all the acension gear is jewelry? Also Devs if you want a quick lesson in Spvp with no restraints I am sure my guild will fight ya with all level 1’s. :P Working as intended.

They will implement crafting recipes for ascended gear, the only question is when.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Its not wise, when you look at other MMO’s they are delivering significantly more content much faster than Guild Wars 2, its depressing as this game did have a strong start with the promise off fast content being delivered to players.
LOL. STFU man, seriously. You got huge PvE updates every single month since launch, and FOR FREE. Be quiet now, you’re annoying.

If ArenaNet took PVE in this game serious the January update would have included the ENTIRE Flame and Frost story line, maybe stretch it over to February but no longer.
I’d have to disagree with this, unless you’re suggesting that they progress the story over the month, rather than have the entire thing all at once.
They would have also added in at least one new dungeon preferably in relation to the Flame and Frost story line, if not that then at the very least a new fractal.
How do you know they won’t be adding a new fractal?
They promised to revamp all the original dungeons but that could be months away, and with there current obsession in focusing ALL there development time to PVP it looks like PVE will remain almost non existent in this game.
Even when the revamp dungeons finally come who will really care? Unless they are 100% redone with new bosses, story, loot, different paths to follow and new mechanics NO one will run them and it would be a waste of developers time.
PvE has had way more added to it than WvW and SPvP in terms of content.
SPvP has had 2 new maps, and WvW has had breakout events. PvE has had seasonal events, one-time events, fractals, this storyline, dynamic events, Orr has been revamped ect. PvE has had way more attention than PvP.
It makes me so sad to say this but currently Guild Wars 2 has the worst PVE in the history of MMO’s.

The last thing this game needs right now, is another reason for players to hide in dungeons. I don’t think they would strengthen their world by getting the players out of it.

Funny. The PvE players say all the content goes to PvP, and the PvP players say all the content goes to PvE.
Anyways, these new selectable dailys sound interesting. As with the guild events and I’m wondering if there will be a climax to the Frost and Flame story.

New map sounds promising, good to have another game mode. Always liked the orb capturing map in Rift, think it could lead to some good fights. Choosing your own dailies? Well can’t complain about that. So yeah, good stuff. Patches like this and the January one give me some hope for the future of the game to be honest.

The last thing this game needs right now, is another reason for players to hide in dungeons. I don’t think they would strengthen their world by getting the players out of it.
EVERY category they mentioned was an open world mission and they made not a single reference to dungeons, I think we can assume at least some of the content will be open world. There may be some dungeon content, but so what? guilds already do dungeon runs, this just makes them more rewarding.
Also we have gotten 5 major updates in the last 5 months. Lets look at the last 5 content adding updates of other popular MMO’s:
SWTOR: 6 major updates in the last 14 months
WoW: 4 major updates in the last 16 months (plus 1 paid expansion)
LotRO: 3 major updates in the last 12 months (plus 1 paid expansion)
To say GW2 is adding content slowly or in less quantities compared to other MMO’s is laughable at best, but mostly just an outright lie. The only other MMO i’ve heard of that comes close to the update schedule of GW2 is possibly rift, but I haven’t played that one so I can’t say for certain.
I don’t think the new guild content will be instanced. I think it will be like the raid rifts in Rift, that occur in the open world. I think it will be content that a guild can start, and do, but that other people, randomly will be able to join in as well.
An update doesn’t need to have many lines to be an “xpac worth of content”, as far as improvements goes (such as laurels and wvw). Take for example the March 3rd 2011 update in GW1.

The update notes only had 12 lines. Every line was game changing. Every line was epic. Only 12 lines in the patch notes made all the difference in the world for GW1 players. Three of those updates would have counted as “xpac worth of content”.
Given that the Jan2013 update had a puppy table of contents shows how large the update was. The entire update notes covers 5 pages in MS Word. Even with no content added, that’s more improvements than that other game ever did in a year. Not to mention GW2 is a f2p game.
So anyone saying there’s not an “xpac worth of content” being added, has no idea what he’s talking about. Unless he expected tier2 ascended in the Fractals of Primeval Kings dungeon.

Yay more content for players using full MF and just spam fireball/any ranged weapon1 skill. Find a huge guild group going to do some hard Guild Mission content, follow them, press 1 a few times and get the same RNG chances (maybe better with more MF) yay. Way to promote leeches even more!
I hope those “Guild Merits” are only rewarded to full guild teams finishing those missions and not random leeches and of course the rewards from them are worth something…

I look forward to most of this update. But as others have said, I do expect ALOT more if they stated there is an expansion’s worth of content. March is make or break.

The adjustments were so minor, one could have not said anything and no one would have known the difference. They just have a hard time of just letting go and really allow loot for the players true level to drop. Just…. Can’t…. Let….. Go…..
If the down-scaling is proper, the true level loot should drop very regularly.
Other than the seasonal additions, so many parts of this game are being updated at a snails pace. So many things they say have been adjusted, you can’t even tell.

at this point anything for me to do in pve for longer than an hour would be a welcome… Like seriously i don’t know if im the only one here but in the past 1 month and a half i have absolutely nothing to do but two fotm dailies which i only do because there’s nothing to do (if that makes any sense…). What anet is releasing is complete crap. Pve needs things to occupy players for weeks/months and it has nothing. I thought they would be adding 1-3 new fractals every month to expand their new dungeons and they doing ****. Disappointment after disappointment.
If your getting disappointed its because you set up unrealistic expectations. Thats your fault, not theres. They never promised what you were expecting.
The irony of all these posts is when Arenanet first talked about ‘an expansion’ worth of updates, there were thread from people complaining that Arenanet should spend time fixing its current system and world zones before adding anything new which is pretty much what they are now doing.
Infact Colin, clarified his expansion comment, saying he was refering to the new systems and such being added and updated to the game.
From my experiance Arenanet is doing fine for content development. People say they are the worst but frankly Im not sure what MMOs they are comparing them too. I play several and Arenanet is holding its own against them.
I suppose by the end of April we will have had a chance to see what he meant by a expansion’s worth since its still very early days yet.
My expectations are from gw1. Gw1 didn’t disappointed me from 07-2012…
100% in agreement with this. I played GW1 from 2005 when it was released to 2012 with a ~2 yr break to play another game. Quality of GW1 was much higher than GW2.

It’s astonishing how people are able to complain about something that hasn’t even happened yet. I truly hope all the cynical, negative people in this thread are leading happy, successful lives. I truly do.
On topic, I’m excited about this coming update. The guild missions are intriguing and I hope they are fun. I also hope they are not instanced though. I’m looking forward to selecting my dailies as well. In regards to PvP, the new type sounds like it might be fun. It looks like their rating is coming along, so hopefully their matchmaking system will be coming soon as well. I wonder if this update will also have the dungeon group finder?

This game is not about doing dungeons with a small bunch of people in co-op… You can find that in games like Gears of War for instance. This game is about fighting Avatar of Balthazar with dozens or even hundreds of people! This is how true MMO should look like! There are dozens of interesting bosses within the game. Problem is that there are no reasons to fight them.
If they add those reasons and gather people through the guilds then that’s going to be more then enough to blow away all those saying that: “raid’s are the only good end-game”.

Those fights does not need look like that! That’s what they need to improve. And what should they never try to do: “race with blizzard about who can do more dungeons at the same time”. WoW is a game about dungeons. And if you want that kind of gameplay then you should play it.

as it is now anet cannot find their footing for open world pve endgame.

gw2 is great GREAT fun in open world when you are going for map completion because you stumble on all those cool events!
but as a farming mode? i dont think it does it.
its going to be hard to keep the players in the zones.
its mostly for alts i guess.
but maxed out characters have Fotm or Wvw for them.

and fotm are kind of.. generic. missing lore or actually any cool flavor.
its purely “gameplay”.
its a matter of merging the challenge and cooperation of dungeon in the open world.

There is to much emphasis on sPVP that I don’t play, and while I like my Guild mates, I don’t activelly participate in Guild Activities.
I feel like there is nothing for me here…

Except the first real content update for GW1 was Sorrow’s Furnace, exactly half a year into the game. The updates for GW1 were massive but not nearly as often as GW2’s.
I take my expectations from what REALLY happened in GW1, and considering that … GW2 more than delivers. As far as content updates go, the 4th anniversary update was the first big update after Sorrow’s Furnace that didn’t come with an expansion pack …
What you should be intrigued about is what the game will look like after 4 years. Considering the GW2 pace which is far higher than the GW1 pace … I expect this game to be massive.

For goodness sake, lets hope not. Anything resembling a traditional raid and I’m just going to quit. There are already MMO’s in existence that force raiding on you and I won’t do it anymore.
How does your guild not have a purpose? Our guild is always in a party doing something.
As far as this update, I see nothing interesting. They are giving us WoW’s arena, which I hated in that game and won’t play in this game. If they continue to WoW clone, people will quit. Why give duplicate content already available in another game?
PvP, blah. I prefer PvE.
Time will tell, but they aren’t going to get a whole lot more time out of me.

did you give them the benefit of the doubt with the Modus Seleri and Southsun Cove, and the mini fractals that are in no way related to the content/lore and feel like a separate game?
im just being mean here.
but i still think their updated content is a bit messy and unfinished and “always a prelude” to something that will never happen.

One thing is a major, MAJOR concern to me: Guild missions. While guild content is needed, I sincerely hope that these missions do not increase your individual power. If completing a guild mission unlocks the ability to increase all representing guild member Power, Crit, etc by X amount, that is probably the last line I draw with the game.
With all of the “progression” that is being pumped into the game with ascended, laurels, wvw progression, etc…I think some clarification as to how Guild Missions would benefit a guild is needed. Are there raw power increases? Speed increases? Traveling benefits? While I am in a guild that is active, I do not want to feel obligated to complete guild missions every week, just to stay on par with other guilds.

Your posts are largely negative. If you had a few positive things to say about the game every once in a while, you might carry more merit.
Here are the facts:
-WoW is a subscription game. WoW is obligated to keep you logging in each day, playing with your friends, and keep that subscription going. Shareholders look at sub numbers to see where the profit is coming from.
-GW2 is not a subscription game. Its revenue is generated via the gem store. If I dont log into Gw2 in January, but log in during February and spend 20$ in the gem store, Arenanet is OK with that. Thats their revenue. They are not relying on any of us to log in every day, for hours on end. They have stated this in interviews and should be commonly known and accepted.
I am really tired of hearing this same old rhetoric: They need to keep me busy every day. Im getting bored.
They do not need to do anything other than hold your interest enough to have you log in every once in a while and spend some money in the gem store. Whether that be on a quaggan backpack, or if you want to level crafting professions you buy boosters. And then..you disappear for a few weeks. Come back and say, yeah..I want to leve an alt. I need some xp boosters. Gem store! While they look at user concurrancy, it is probably not the central KPI for them. Gem store purchases is and that is what THEIR stockholders are looking at when judging the health of this game.
The stockholders (if you know anything about ecnomics, these people hold the company’s number one priority) do not care if you are bored. They care about the gem purchases.
Edit: With all of that said, arenanet will do everything it can to keep people logging in as frequently as possible. Of course, that goes without saying. What MMO dev worth their spit would not try to keep you interested as much as possible. But their profits are not dependant on user concurancy per month, nor the average time players spend logged in each month.

I’m going to give Arenanet the benefit of the doubt by waiting to see just what new stuff the first part of Flame And Frost brings. Last month was just the prelude after all.
I’ll point out to most people that if a jaded, cynical, no-faith-in-the-devs kitten like me can be patient, you should be too.
did you give them the benefit of the doubt with the Modus Seleri and Southsun Cove, and the mini fractals that are in no way related to the content/lore and feel like a separate game?

but i still think their updated content is a bit messy and unfinished and “always a prelude” to something that will never happen.
A rational man withholds judgement until all the evidence is on the table. It’s pretty much a proven fact that aside from the listed features of the Flame and Frost patches that the actual living story stuff is under wraps. Arenanet said January wasn’t the start of the major updates, that it was as stated in the title a prelude. It didn’t stray from that promise and I held no higher expectations.
Your citations of previous events and how they “didn’t deliver” are rather faulty. Modus Seleri was a singular zone event while the Lost Shores was about the Karka themselves. While something pushed the Karka into our back yard it was the big ugly crabs themselves that were the main story. Now I was dissapointed by the Lost Shores patch for many reasons. Southsun Cove is a waste of space, the lead in quests were buggy to the point you couldn’t finish them and Arenanet’s faulty servers screwed many people out of the rewards and participation in general with a one time event. However in terms of story it presented a threat to Tyria and we dealt with that threat. Honestly it was more epic than Zhaitan ever was.
Learn to properly apply blame before forming arguments against something and wait for there to be blame to cast.

Guild missions could be a massive amount of content. Ill try and find a source that mentions that there will be 5 mission types for guilds to interact with and setup (bear with me on that one). From the same anet quote it goes on to say something about other guilds and people being able to interact with the content at the same time aswell. This could potentially be huge missions that mimic say, world dragon champions, or a massive new shared jumping puzzle or zone wide scavenger hunt (NO, dont get your hopes up for precursors yet).
If this is the case then were talking about hitting several problems with one stone from Anets perspective – Incentive to revisit areas, guild PVE activities and generally exciting stuff for pve players.
Brand new PVP map is something you would see within a major content update or paid xpac.
Achievements still being revamped – Would hope to see hero points and general achievements being addressed this patch, but prolly have to wait till march.
ALSO, january brought alot of fixes and tweaks that Anet never hyped us about OR we even expected. As that was stated to be a small patch in comparison to feb and marchs, i really dont think hope is lost and doomsday prophecies to be applicable yet.
Well I do hope at least the guild missions system is really kittening expansive, otherwise i will eating my words and coming closer to a negative mind state about this game and developer…. some might say finally.

For goodness sake, lets hope not. Anything resembling a traditional raid and I’m just going to quit. There are already MMO’s in existence that force raiding on you and I won’t do it anymore.
How does your guild not have a purpose? Our guild is always in a party doing something.
As far as this update, I see nothing interesting. They are giving us WoW’s arena, which I hated in that game and won’t play in this game. If they continue to WoW clone, people will quit. Why give duplicate content already available in another game?
PvP, blah. I prefer PvE.
Time will tell, but they aren’t going to get a whole lot more time out of me.
well Areana style game play is WAY older than wow and its one of the most sucseful. not to mantion the way combat works in GW2 isnt the same as WOW so the dynamic of the arena will be different just because of that

Sadly once again there is no new PVE content, heaps to do for fans of PVP, but we have had no new PVE content introduced since Fractals.
Im starting to think there is no point playing this game anymore as clearly the developers have no interest in PVE.
We were promised an “expansion worth of content”, ArenaNet has failed to deliver on this promise thus far.
Flame and Frost? Dynamic leveling changes? New daily/monthly content? Laurels?

the amount of entitlement and crying ultimately leaves devs with no real way out.
all in all for the few of us who do appreciate consistent effort and work, Thanks Anet. You don’t get to hear that as often as you probably should unfortunately.
