With the current state of the game, in order to get certain things done the devs have forced us to grind specific content in the game to keep maps alive. I’d love to give more freedom of choice to the player, by creating a market.

I’d love a system that unifies all the different map currencies to be converted to each other. Similar to the Gold to Gems market, the map currencies values market would adjust depending on demand. So while encouraging people to play on the more valued currencies and underplayed maps at each given time the demand is there, it doesn’t restrict players to having to play specific maps to get that currency. With so many different map currencies in the game, and probably more on the way, it really would be a great idea I think, and would give more power to the players, while creating a new vibrant fluctuating economy in the game.

I’m not trying to poo-poo your idea, because it does sound intriguing, but you must know that the different map currencies, especially in the HOT maps, were specifically made that way to keep people playing all the maps. “Restricting players to specific maps” is exactly the point. But even so, they did cave in a little by creating the converter you get from finishing DS which allows limited conversion between the currencies, time-gated of course.

The intention may be to keep us in a map... And the AP for doing tarrir 100 times shows the laugh-ability of the devs thinking its okay, but the sheer volume of map currencies required to get everything is absurd. Even though I like the bladed armor set for instance, I will never bother to farm enough to get it, simply because I can’t continue to redo that meta for a few reasons. I have spent so much time farming for other various collections to get the junk I need, I find this idea wonderful. I have also suggested similar in the past for geodes and bandit crest, I find it more relevant now than then.

You can already convert many currencies:

  • With the appropriate upgrade, guild commendations can be converted to HoT currencies.
  • The ley-line energy matter converter allows you to convert 25 of one HOT currency into 10 of another.
  • The so-called ‘eaters’ (Herta, Princess, etc) allow you to convert ascended mats into salvageable or tradeable items.

One might critique the system as slow & gated, which it is, because ANet doesn’t want us to easily convert — whatever reasons they have for unique currencies (good or bad) wouldn’t make sense if it was too easy or too cheap.

I believe the original intention was to be more open market, and let the players set the values like the tp. As it is, there is not a conversion for all currencies. That conversion for the hot zones, is a sink nothing less.

Exactly. Sorry I am not the best with wording as some people seem to be confused. This was my intention, as to create a more open market for currencies.

I wouldn’t say it is solid as it is… does it work? Yes… but there are much better ways. I think having the freedom of doing what you enjoy and not being restricted to grinding out things you don’t enjoy fits their message of “not having to grind things you don’t enjoy”.
