For the love of Quaggans Anet, why give us such a cool thing as a flying carpet and not give us options with it?
1: Get on and ride.
2: Give a lift to a player. Also nice for couples who play together. Also for saving lives on race track obstacle course.
3: Glide down. No dying from jumping off cliff no matter how high, you simply glide down. For destroyed bridges on race track.
4: Fly over water. Can also be part of a race track.
5: Wind gust. Same speed as running but with the carpet.
Even at 500 Gems I would have bought one and it would be a blast.

Other ideas “Carpet Racing”

6: healing for burns and such.
7: Jumping. For obstacle courses.
8: Fire extinguisher. That’s right some sections have fire hazards.
9: Joust with a lance. In case of enemies on flying carpets. Maybe for PVP joust.
10: Yes even an elite spell for those dynamic events only done with a carpet in mind.

And please Anet don’t say who gives a Skritt.
P.S: I heard another player whining he couldn’t get his pet cat on his broom.

the pickaxe is yet another ridiculous non-issue for vocal minority talking points [basically the oxygen of these forums].. there was a thread about it in the black lion section and it went on for pages.. whenever it was brought up in another forum, people were just like “umm, a few lousy sprockets here and there.. o k” ..anyway, the carpet is in the toys section of the trading post, it’s not meant to be some amazing versatile mount.. landshark ‘cough’ .. i’m just glad if i decide to buy it my female norn can finally /sit without looking like a complete tool

The solution for both is very simple, just make consumable versions of both available in game, methods for obtaining them can scale as to how difficult they want it to be. That way both player groups will be happy

Most wanted in game additions: Beastiary, readable books

Because this would be, in my opinnion, worse than a mount that gives a speed boost.
Why?
Because it would break several jumpingpuzzles in half, sideways and upwards.

I could potentially see a minigame like this where you use environmental weapon carpetswith those functionalities, but allowing it in the open world would just be a mistake

Mini Games Yes

Free for all anywhere you choose no it would be game breaking on so many levels not just jumping puzzles, not to mention an unfair advantage to those that cannot afford to throw money at the game.

What I do want though is a way for all my characters to be able to access these things without a mobile banker, although that is the point I guess one leads to another?

Its screaming out for a panel like the mini unlock section at the very least.

(btw: I have both the carpet and the broom stick)

^ this.

I wouldn’t be opposed to a separate Carpet Race activity though.

No one is forcing you to buy gems to get something from the gem store.

Yeah Anet shouldn’t try and get a steady source of income (gem store) but if they did away with it what would you come here to cry and complain about?

Kill stuff to unlock weapons skills, most confusing thing I ever heard of. (sarcasm)

You are wanting them to make the flying carpet a very overpowered item that would unbalance and break the game in no time. Why fight or find the path down the cliff when all you have to do is fly past everything and slowly glide to the ground .

Gold->Gems. They already made it obtainable “in-game” although why the Watchwork pick isn’t a permanent gem store item is beyond me. The sprocket upgrade to it should make it immediately a permanent addition so nobody is cheated out of that opportunity.

To point out, they keep bringing the Watchwork pick back every now and then. It’s not like it won’t appear again at some point in the gem shop.

Well, what did you expect? It’s just a reskin of your normal movement animation, just like broom and tunneling drill. Anything more would require significantly more work (and run a chance of introducing problems).

And yet some players will scream at you if you even dare to talk about mounts… but are just fine with something like this.

Because , as i said, it’s just an animation change. It doesn’t really affect your movement in any way, it just changes the looks.

It would have to be an extremely tiny mount. Remember, the collision/animation box remains the same, so the change couldn’t have the head much higher than it is now. There’s also the matter of leg clipping – notice that all 3 “mount-like” toys are made in a way that avoids it (no legs, no contact with the ground)

I can tell that even on the carpet, my character’s armour clips through the carpet, and if you take a closer look, the character is actually floating in several inches above the carpet while the armour itself is “sitting” on the carpet.

I had some extra gems left in my account with nothing much on the horizon…so I bought one. I kinda like it. My Asura engineer has gained new status in the world riding around standing up on the rug…which, by the way, has my guild logo on it.

As others have said, it doesn’t affect movement, although if you try to activate a command to increase your speed while on it (such as an elixir), it will dismount you. I wonder…if I put my clumsy, gawking Norn on one…will it make him graceful and sleek? Alas…probably not. All in all…kinda fun.

To activate speed your carpet is already on spell 1, if you have speed with healing you activate it then activate 1 and your speeding normally.

You can get speed boosts that do work, but either way it still doesn’t move you any faster than you would be if your feet where on the ground.

I can’t see how any of those ideas this would be game breaking. looking at the other toys out there, that completely broke the costume brawl apart for anyone that don’t spend gems on toys… this seems harmless to me… after all, if one of those monsters on the way down the cliff hits you the carpet is gone and you have to walk… and you will still take falling damage if the fall is too steep…
I mean, my parrot from my toy sword that i got with my pirate outfit, activates the damage bonus from my ranger rune… so why the Skritt not…
