…it is too much to expect an item that doesn’t intersect with basic hairstyles? Just sayin’.

Sadly this was an instant not buy for me as well. I can stand a little bit of clipping at the bottom and with other things. But very obvious clipping makes me sad.

Hair like that is problematic. On one hand, I don’t like when it clips through things like armor. On the other hand, I don’t like it when the hair gets hidden entirely because I’ve put on a hat.

I don’t think it’s practical to design gear to avoid some of the longer / more voluminous hairstyles, even just the more common ones. It’s unfortunate, but some gear pieces I just have to look at a given character’s head and say “Nope, that’s not going to work.”

Other than making a generic “tied back” alternate hairstyle to shorten long hair (rather than making a character go bald,) I’m not sure what alternative fix to this problem there is.

There are a variety, though a lot of them take additional development resources. We get new skins and things so frequently on the basis that they’re not tested and not designed and created to withstand these mesh conflicts.

Either you implement a physics system to the hair objects and armors such that they do not clip through armors, or all hair objects need alternate mesh structures such that when a clipping item is equipped, if they are both on the same player, the hair mesh is modified in a way which looks normal and doesn’t clip.

But, you can’t expect physics because of graphical demands and/orlimitations on the engine, and adding new meshes to the game every new gem store item would be a lot of work, as ANet is already making their money from the folks who insta-buy. I’d suggest sending a support ticket in hopes you can get a refund.

I am annoyed with gems myself. I was going to convert 155 gold to get a Royal Terrace pass. I think about it as I realize PVP now has a bank and a trading post. I decide that I want to get Royal Terrace access and the gold to gem price goes up to 164 gold in 20 minutes.

I bought Royal Terrace Pass because I wanted a crafting area for my pvp characters.

It doesn’t work in HOTM.

I’ve always wondered why they can’t turn on clipping for hair, like how tressfx hair in Tomb Raider 2012 realistically falls over her shoulder and clothes depending on movement, gravity, …

It’s because hair like that is rigged to a complex “skeleton.” Rendering that on one person is no biggie, but 100+ people (or even 10+ people most likely) with such a complex character model would be lag soup.

I didn’t get the scarf for the same reason (that and it looks quite bulky), all the characters I’d use it on have long hair.

On the plus side it’s actually quite realistic. I don’t wear scarves in real life because I have waist length hair and even when it’s tied back the two get tangled together.

If wonder what kind of physics collision they use for character models, I guess it’s just a box collision one. Why not spend more time with graphics guys sorting out linear algebra math to resolve all these clipping issues… there must be a way, I’m sure.

A complete revamp of the engine the game is running on? Not impossible, but I don’t think that the newest engine will be applied for GW2 (imagine all the reworking that will need to be done).

Some people really expect a bit too much ‘realism’ in their computer game..

I hail from the good old time when these were state-of-the-art graphics (check the clipping!!)

No. Not really. Asking for hair clipping fix isn’t “expecting too much realism”. I’m sure a computer graphics expert can come up with some sort of mesh merge. Given how powerful GPUs are today, that should be possible. If devs want a starting point: Geometry Shader. #kthxbai

PS.: MAKE USE OF GPUS!

As much as it appears to be garnering a sour response, it actually looks really good on certain charr and asura.

400 gems is ridiculously cheap. 400 gems is about 75 gold. 75 gold is about a couple hours of play. I did 4 or so dungeons and a bit of world vs world.

It may not be free of errors (for me it had no clipping issues) but seriously get over it.

You could have previewed it before buying it. I love it and hate how ungrateful everyone else is.

Sorry, but this is just simply not true…
I mean, 99.5% of players (who still play at all) aren’t lucky to make 75g a month, not even in “a couple hours of play”. Without so lucky drops, players barely can make like ~20g with progressive dungeon rushes.
Should we Farm/Grind for anything by the way? I don’t think so.
GW1’s FREE festival items were so mutch better. You’ve enjoyed the party and had a nice gift from the devs. Worked Perfectly.
