So a race is the main thing you wanted from this expansion pack? Something that matters so little other than for vanity reasons. I mean forget all the cool new stuff they’ve announced!

Because its totally impossible to be hyped about the expansion, but still be disappointed certain other things aren’t in, right? You either have to be 100% happy about every single thing or 0% happy and think its complete crap, yah?

What you consider, “cool stuff,” may not be what other people consider, “cool stuff.”

I agree about finding stuff to moan about. You are, after all, moaning about people moaning about a lack of a new race. I am now officially moaning about you moaning about other people moaning about a lack of a new race.

SAB was the worst thing Anet ever came up with. I’m glad it’s gone and I hope it stays gone forever! That pos aspect of the game didn’t fit anything lore wise or otherwise.

This expansion looks awesome! I still wish they came out with more spvp game modes, specifically 2v2 death match arenas. But oh well, let’s see what stronghold brings.

Understood, but keep in mind that someone might consider a new race to be their primary interest in an expansion. They might have little or no interest in the new profession, PvP mode, etc. The lack of a new race in this expansion means that it may very well be a matter of years before they get what they want out of the next expansion.

I’m pretty happy with the stuff in the expansion, but I would also have liked a new race. Yes it’s largely cosmetic, but it would still be interesting. And there’s a good chance a new race would have also come with a new starting zone and city, and new personal story chapters.

I’m not complaining that we didn’t get one, but it would have been nice.

I would rather just have new/more armor types

A new race is something more than a cosmetic vanity toy. It’s a new racial city. A few new storylines. New hearts, new lore.

Yep, too much real content and work for Anet. You can’t expect much from probably 30-50 euro XP. Lets just stick to rehashing and what we already have on the table.

In a game about vanity and wanting your character to look cool. Where lvl 80 is about having all armor options possibly available to you. A New Race could include: New home instance, more personal story outside zhaitan story, more quest hearts, more racial armors, more customization by default, new fun racial abilities, new dances, more bird jokes, bird ninja run animations(idea), possible opening story line into cantha (maybe next exp). There are some possibilities to be excited for with new races.

Glovebox, out.

For me, an expansion, expands. And as far as i’m concerned this doesn’t deliver. It feels like a huge content patch, or a dlc I should be getting for a fiver, or tenner. Not an expansion that’ll go for 30 euros or more. Not for a game that’s gone without expansion for 2.5 years.

Main Points of contention

1 – No new race or races. It’s not just vanity. A new race brings many into an mmo. New lore or expanded lore. Quests. New starting areas. New visual styles in armours and weapons. New animations for our toons. New emotes. It’s an injection of fresh into an area of the game i’ve gotten used to seeing already.

2 – No level cap increase. Let me elaborate. They’ve introduced masteries. But we don’t know much about ‘em. For example, I love lore, am I gonna be at a disadvantage cause i’m gonna spend mastery points to unlock lore when the guy next to me is gonna put everything he’s got into damage? It is an alternative advancement system but in many ways it feels like it’s limited into the jungle. I mean what good would my amazing gliding is gonna do for me in frostgorge? or wvw? see the problem? Level increases usually provide more universal benefits that apply to all aspects of your character, not only to one area of the map.

3a – No map diversity, no information on the quantity of the maps offered. A whole expansion full of greenery? Don’t get me wrong, I love jungles and forests in mmos more than anyone, but only jungle? How would you feel if the expansion was only made up out of desert maps? And then there’s the issue of how many zones we’ll be getting. We get a jungle yes, we get three floors yes, but how many zones? are they gonna offer us 3 zones with 3 floors and tell us that it’s as good as having 9 zones and we should be happy? Cause i wouldn’t.
3b – No mention of an underwater map. Yes i know i’m the only person on the planet who likes underwater zones. But i do. I love ‘em and i would very much like to see some of that into the game. No other game has done underwater as gw2. There’s potential there. No rework of the underwater mechanics, no separation of over water and underwater skills and traits and builds. No nothing.

4 – Specializations and the problems i see with that. Well, zero info. or close to that. Is that druid gonna be a whole new class? do we get like 30 skills and new weapon skills along with the old? or they bundle 5 new skills and another five for one weapon your class wasn’t using and call it a day? That doesn’t feel very specialized at all to me. That sounds like a cheap way to get away from the fact that the main classes won’t be getting flat out skill increases and access to new weapons. Why make 10 new skills for an already existing class when you can make four and tell ‘em to choose which of a pair of 2 they’d like to “specialize” in? Not to mention, what happens to the person who wants to play a druid (assuming that the specialization is anything close to a class of it’s own)? gotta grind though 80 lvls of ranger first? Does that sound reasonable?

tbc…

5 – No new weapons (speculation). Why nobody in tyria has ever thought it a good idea to make a bigger axe to hold with 2 hands is beyond me. really. But hey we might be getting spears, or polearms at least. But not sure, they didn’t mention anything.

6 – No mounts, Just gliding. I love mounts, mounts are great. Tyria is a beautiful place but you can’t see it cause each map has 100 wps you can jump into, why walk, why travel. I hoping with mordremoth eating up the wps we might get mounts but .. nopes. We’re still gonna be teleporting all over the place. But at least we’ll be gliding now, if we speck for it of course. Only in the jungle. Somehow it doesn’t feel impressive to me. Doesn’t get me excited. I’ve tried gliding in ArchAge, and a form of flying in Aion. It’s just a gimmick most of the time. We didn’t need gliders (in my opinion), we needed mounts to enjoy the world.

7 – No new crafting professions. Not even a peep if we’ll get another 100 points to increase. No mention of a crafting revamp into something more interesting or relaxing or anything. When the expansion lands are we still gonna be grinding for ascended gear?

8 – No legendary armour sets. I mean they make legendary weapons easier to craft i presume. Why not produce new legendary armour as well. Give people something to sink their teeth into. Give the folk who like to feel like special snowflakes that goal they want.

9 – No mention of dungeons, fractals. Nothing.

10 – No info on the new class. How can i be excited about something when i know nothing about it. So another heavy armour user. Ok and?

For these reasons some of us are not so excited about it as you are. I loved what i saw, but what i saw wasn’t enough for me to call this an expansion. Not one that’s coming after 2.5/3 years after the game’s release. But, i’m glad you liked it and are content with it. Hopefully in the future they’ll release something a bit more substantial than what they’ve done today and i can get a bit more hyped, and energized about this “expansion”. Who knows? At the very least they should tell us the price of it and a release date. that will surely have an impact on things. 60 euros for this, is a no, but 20 is a maybe. We’ll see

Adding a new race is going to be a hard thing to do unless the new race is going to be very place holder type looks + a few race ability. You need a full PS a set of regions that some how fits into the current story. If any thing we may see ways to changes into different races but purls for looks.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)

9 – No mention of dungeons, fractals. Nothing.

Dungeons and Fractals don’t appeal to me and I rarely play them, but I did expect to hear something.

You would think that the addition/rework of Dungeons and Fractals would be big enough to announce along with everything else. Since Dungeons are reserved for the story content, that’s also a possible reason why nothing was said. Then again, maybe new dungeons aren’t going to happen anymore.

On everything else, it was a little disappointing that Anet spent all this time and hype to announce the expansion, but then not share any additional information at all. It would have been nice if they went into more detail for at least one thing that they announced, instead of pushing it all off for a later date.
