For people who didn't get precursor mf
What do you mean? Like how much I bought my prec? 520g IIRC.
If I had to guess, I’d say I spent about 3,400 gold total in the mystic forge…. Give or take a couple hundred. You’re definitely not the only unlucky one. I’ve gotten less than 10 exotics total in about 2,500 hours of playing. This is a general pattern among most GW2 players it seems like.
At that point you could have just purchased the whole Legendary for half of that. Gratz!
given the time frame to accumulate that (and spend it) it’s more like 3 (since legendaries were a fair kitteneaper).
Something about that seem’s like an exaggeration since I’m getting around an exotic a day….granted I’m only ever doing dungeons or wvw (keep lord boxes hurrah!)
I spent nothing on/for my precursor. It just dropped off a level 6 mob. =)
I’ve never even tried the Mystic Forge for a weapon. I only use it for the Daily Achievement, because it’s easy and I have so many runes and sigils from salvaging.
I bought mine straight up for 450g to save myself from posting this kind of thread.
361g. Arrived at that price using number of weapons needed for 100 forges * price of cheapest one (precursors are supposedly 1 in 100). I know that is not how probability works but it’s an easy way to figure out a value that wasn’t too crazy on either side.
Around 500g. Now this wasn’t all at once, just 50g here, 50g there… mainly whenever I got the gambling fever. Sad thing is, I just wanted a precursor so I could sell it :P I’ve sworn that I’ll never bother again… but we’ll see.
(0 precursors from the MF/drops since head start weekend)
Same here, No precursor drops from MF or openworld. I haven’t even had an ascended drops. I have been playing since last October (4k hours played all up) but then again most of my time is spent in wvw so maybe that’s why… Even with the new wvw rank up chests I haven’t seen any ascended items from them and at most maybe 1 or 2 exotics.
My luck is rather terrible it seems.
Nar: I love that it will take me time and money to
reach the same level I’m at right now… …said no one, ever.
At around 100. I only bought exotics and rares when I felt like I need to do some mistakes. Most of the time I used the ones I got from drops, which got me The Spark. And don’t try to argue about how much money I lost by not selling the ones I dropped. I don’t care, the money was never there so it isn’t lost to me.
About 350g for tooth of frostfang. 320g was on random rare axes. 30g was a few months later once I’d licked my wounds. Got it in 8 identical exotic axes.
Rumourville states the best chances are:
Lvl 80
Self crafted
Exotic
Matching the weapon type of the resulting precursor
My prec fulfilled 3/4 (not self crafted)
I’v spent around 7k gold in the forge

I used to think matching the weapon type mattered as well. Then I started buying explorers/rampagers/clerics GS and got Dusk 2-3 times. That rumor is false.
Self crafted seriously makes no sense. That’s urban myth territory.
Personally I think using exotics is a waste of money. But bringing this up usually means walls of text with master statisticians coming in and giving us a college grade lecture on how numbers work.
Yep I agree, everythings just hearsay unless you see the actual code that governs it. But I’ve created the post here just for statistical guidance:

330g for Zap.
70g for Carcharias
119g for Energizer
415g for Hunter
160g for Howl
510g for Tooth of Frostfang.
… oh MF? Yeah 0g.

long way for me to go standing at 131g wasted so far

Holy crap. Thats very bad luck.
I don’t buy any gear to throw in the MF. I toss in the rares I get from world bosses, WvW and other various places – from just playing casually. I usually get a few exotics a week (anywhere from 2 to 5 a week) and have gotten a precursor once (Warhorn).
0 gold in MF, i guess there is a secret of 6, i got mine from a dead shark which is lv60.
Guess what, i wonder i am able to craft a legendary even i got a precursor with my casual game play style (1 hr tops a day).
Spent roughly around 400G in the forge, using all level 80 rares. No precursor, probably about 15 exotics, highest valued one being around 10G.

I’ve noticed a slight increased chance of exotics coming out when I put self crafted rares in. It could be a coincidence, though.
Anyway, I probably spent about 50g forging rare and exotic staffs + any that I got as drops, before deciding it isn’t worth it to throw away my gold with a very high probability of not receiving the legend. Bought it for 760g.
I spent more than 300g on MF with no success. It was almost one year ago and fortunately I am not stupid enough to do it again.
Last time i used MF i get a precursor but as Anet changed the name of it in French in that time : I didn’t notice it was one as I wasn’t aware of the name change so I drop it in MF to forge more and realised only later that it was the precursor I was seeking for seeing they just renamed it with no warning back then… Since I don’t use MF any more.

That would be a make great screenshot.

Such is the nature of gambling. The only thing your get from it is depression and a lesson. Don’t you love anet’s casino.
800g+ for me but I for one got something golden out of it.

Probably around 250g. Which is kinda sad considering I’m going for Howl and the precursor is at a 6-month-high at around 200g. >_>
