It has now gotten to the point where few players are crafting ascended weapons because they actually want one, we are crafting them because our inventories are plagued with materials for which there is nothing else to do.
It doesn’t even matter if it’s vendoring them for 1 copper each, at least it’ll be better than rightclick->destroy
I have wondered what the point of making these things account bound is.
I have absolutely no desire to craft ascended weapons- I don’t want this stuff, let me sell it to someone who wants it
I dont have the bankspace for 2000 emphereal fragments and 3000 bloodstone dust. And I have no interest in rushing to level my crafting.
You just need to get to 450 in one craft and that’s easy. From 400 to 425 just refine a stack each of Ori ores and ancient logs. Done.
From 425 to 450, discover maybe 10 weapons on Friday when your WvW buff is at it’s best. That, with a guild crafting buff and a trading post crafting boost will get your really close to 450. Artificer is easiest because you can also discover a few potions.
Then you can refine all those t7 mats to bricks/whatever. It’s really not hard.
My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.
The reason you can not sell ascended mats, and the reason you are time-gated on creating some of the required materials for ascended weapons is Anet wants control over how fast you can aquire them.
Colin Johanson stated people got exotics much faster than they had expected and that shortened the “end game” (grind, my word there). So now to control within the strictest measure possible, no you can not sell your ascended mats.
The more productive thing to ask Anet to allow you to do with them is use them as some other sort of currency. Let’s say….hrm…repair armor by visiting a Armorsmith, instead of having to pay silver.

imo they should increase capacity, of how much you can stack of them in your collection, or just put them in the wallet. I don’t really want ascended weapon, as I’m preparing for the legendary and don’t want to waste any additional resources, but I can’t guarantee, that I wouldn’t want to craft ascended armor, when they release it fe, or some other item, which would require ascended mats in the future, so I don’t really want to just destroy them.
Once you’re at 450 and can refine them, your collectibles lets you store enough for 50.5 ascended weapons. Not exactly a tiny storage.
This is what I did. Just got weaponsmithing to 450 so I could refine them and store more. No real interest in Ascended atm. Just saving them up as they fill my inventory and if I ever have enough I might make one someday. Figure this is better than destroying them in case I ever actually want Ascended.
I hate deleting stuff so, at this time, I am letting this… stuff… clog my alts’ bags in the hope that they make it sellable.
I am not going to do the ascended grind so am not going to level my crafting. I would rather sell the mats I would need to level on the AH and spend the money on something I enjoy.

Hope… Sad that a lot of us are running on this now.
The first: at this point there is so much dust around now that they’d probably only sell for 1 or 2 copper. You may as well delete them.
The second: Notice that Anet introduced more bank slots right after introducing these materials; moreover, these new materials that required in unprecedented quantities for crafting. Coincidence? I think not.
Yea, the current trend of Anet migrating to more and more account/soul bound items just means the trading company isn’t working as they thought it would. So much for economists :P
Gives the side “bonus” of time gating, fabulous idea!
/sarcasm-off
You can sell some of the mats but i think if you could sell the upgrade version it would make ascended weapons too easy to get. Maybe add in more use for the current ascended mats is a better chose such as crafting rings and back and neck items etc… that too will be account bound

Remember when everyone was complaining, right around the start of the ascended gear release, that they’d probably never have enough time to get the mats necessary to gear their characters?
Because it doesn’t seem that long ago, and man, am I glad this thread popped up now.

Going from 400 to 450 isn’t the issue. It’s taking the time to get to 400 in any of those three crafting professions that’s the issue. It’s disheartening to be taken back down to 350 again as “a favor”.
Bloodstone dust is completely WORTHLESS b/c everyone has 2 million piles of it.
Empyreal’s & Deldrimor Ingots on the other hand….
I was talking to the guy who offered 1g to anyone who had an entire tab full of dust, I am by no means asking for the dust to be worth anything in order for me to cash in on it. Please read carefully.

ANet got burned by players acquiring exotics too quickly. They are doing everything in their power, using every roadblock they can think of, dragging the process out by every means they can, trying to find the sweet spot at the point where getting the Ascended crap will take as much time as possible — but just short of where the player-base implodes.
I ain’t doing the ascended grind. I’ll be deleting that shizzat as soon as the crafting slot in the bank is full. Really wish I could vendor it. Even for a few copper… or salvage it into other crafting materials or essences of luck.
RNG is a bell curve. Better hope you’re on the right side.

The complaints are still valid. Dragonite and Empyreal whatevers are much much harder to come by. The fact that the dust is easy makes no difference because you need all three.

That’s a lie Anet has told us in order to justify Ascended gear. Refer to the infamous quote that stated players should have exotics by the time they reach level 80.

Yeah….no…you can already buy all the mats you need off the tp except the dust bars, dragon ore, etc. The bars need to craft the weapon pieces and inscription are on the tp. So really, you can ignore the time gate if you have the income, which doing the other stuff for the soulbound items can help with.
Having said that, i do agree making the bars (not raw mats that make them) should be sellable on tp.

Thing is, we don’t know at what point they changed their minds. Was it before, or after launch? Was it a knee-jerk reaction to the “nothing to work for” posts, or did they anticipate the whining, decide to revise how quickly exotics could be gotten, and then drop the ball? I certainly did not have exotics on my first character by the time I reached 80.
Maybe “got burned” is not accurate. However, they definitely reacted to (presumed) falling concurrency. Based on my experience, they reacted to the wrong complaints. 90% of my GW1 alliance was gone before the end of October. They didn’t leave for lack of a carrot. They left because they could get better PvP in just about any other game out there.

Other solution: Remove the arbitrary 250 stack cap. It was useful at the start to get people to craft and use the items they got, but now it’s just hindering gameplay because there is no where to stack all that crap in our inventories. If it’s a mat we should be able to deposit, then the bank shouldn’t have a stack cap, at the very least. Otherwise, we shouldn’t be devoting more than one slot in our inventories to any single stackable item.
“People don’t hate Scarlet the way Game of Thrones
fans hate Joffrey. They hate her the way Star Wars
fans hate Jar Jar Binks.”-not a direct quote, but still true.
At the moment I got to 250 Empyreal Fragments, I had 6,444 Bloodstone Dust and almost a thousand Dragonite Ore.
I just wish Bloodstone dust were a lot less common for what I do and the fragments were a little more common. I’m just stuck doing jump puzzles on my 2 80’s to get fragments, whereas I can get hundreds of Bloodstone dust for happening upon an invasion, and more than 3 times as much Dragonite Ore from AFK smacking a temple boss as I get fragments from actually doing a JP.

I still dont get why they care how fast people get weapons and armor. The game is, or was supposed to be played for fun and for the experience of doing dungeons / LS/ wvw/ spvp. However with this new ascended stuff the game has just become a grind for gear in order to be able to do that stuff (besides spvp). I wish Anet would just understand their own game and their community.
