For the next expansion (poll)
What makes you think they won’t be doing multiple elite specs for each class instead of new professions? That’s what the whole work of making reward tracks, new weapons and new traits was all about. It’s how this game is going to give us new professions.
Elite specializations. Part one
In our reveal of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™, we told you that specializations are our way of giving existing professions new skills and traits.
Elite specialization. Part two
You’ll also learn how you can gain access to elite specializations, which will turn your profession into something truly new!
ANet may give it to you.

So seeing some new classes first would be nice

What I’m saying is each time an expansion rolls around and a new elite specizalation is introduced it will be less and less likely to ever see a new class. If 3 years from now we have 4 elite specizalations then adding a new class would be hard because on top of the new class 4 elite specizalations would need to be added with it.
And if they add 3 new professions first, in 3 years they would have to have added 12 elite specializations in addition to the 27 for existing professions?
I’m not sure how that would be less work. /shrug
I don’t think they have any plans to add more brand new professions instead of elite specs. They now have 9, which is a fair number imo. They said making elite specs is easy for them and since they made all that work to set up the support for putting in elite specs, that appears to be the route they want to use to add profession variety.
The only time I can see them adding new professions now is if there’s a new concept they want to add that can’t thematically be worked into an existing profession. However with a little bit of flexibility, that might not be a problem. For example, I could see a scythe wielding elite that calls upon the powers of old heroes being added to the Revenant (the Dervish).
ANet may give it to you.
PRetty sure t hey said they for sure aren’t doing classes anymore, just elite specs.
I actually think the Elite Specs were kind of clever.
Anet can potentially make hundreds of different types of professions based on the existing 9 class archetypes, while keeping the amount of work to a minimum.

As in GW- you had a ‘secondary’ profession, (GW2 elite spec)- there are so many delicious combos to work with!
(Just remeber ANet, keep PVE and PVP separate!!)
I have a pet- I am a Ranger.
I have Avatar of Balthazar- I am a Dervish.

No need for that. Since you can only equip one elite spec at a time, a class with 4 elite specs doesn’t have a significant advantage over a single elite spec. It was a smart decision to make elite specs exclusive against each other, because that makes it easier to balance them (No Revenant/Herald/Dervish spec, just Revenant/Herald, or Revenant/Dervish, for example,) and it means they wouldn’t have the problem you’re describing if they do add any more classes.
I’m not expecting more classes, but I do really like the Revenant, so I’d be open to more classes if they had a good idea that couldn’t be done with elite specs.
They already started the next one. So a bit late for that. But you could propose for the third expansion.
Would be nice to have a Ranger elite that isn’t some goofy healing spec that should have been given to Gaurdians.
Pretty sure there are no new professions coming. And HoT wouldn’t have gotten one either if the 3 armor types didn’t already each have 3 professions each.
I want a healing elite spec for thief. Or maybe something stealth related with reveal immunity (too much? you wouldn’t have three dodges to go along with it)? Maybe a wand and called a Shadowmancer where the thief becomes a master of shadow magic. Not just for attacking but also a general utility and healing spec too and can be traited for good heals, those you stealth also have reveal immunity, etc., for grandmaster traits.
Can I just skip the poll and say that I’d rather they add some new utility skills before they add more elite specs. Would be nice to get some more useful variety on the skill bar.

I’m honestly kind of surprised Daredevil doesn’t have more of a monk build to it that heals based on damage dealt.
If thieves get anything though I’d imagine it would be a rifle for more of a sniper spec. We’ve never really had a truly ranged spec other than pistol/pistol and it would still keep the profession in the physical damage category.

Not true. Yes designing an entire class is more difficult than designing an elite spec for an existing class, but it is still easier than introducing 9 new elite specs at the same time. Each class had 5 trait lines in the core class, and 4 types of skills. Just in terms of number of traits and skills thats equal to about 4-5 elite specs in terms of what would need to be made. So even if ANet would have to add 3 elite specs on top of that when introducing the class, it would still be less work than creating 9 entirely new elite specs
How about a DWARF race!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dwarves may have been extinct ages ago but who really knew!!!!
They managed to survive in that NEW expansion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if they make 3 new classes they will still have to make an elite spec for those as well. No thank you, let’s just stick with the elite specs

Sorry to pop your bubble, but they are The Great Dwarf now. Until the dragons are defeated and (if) they return to normal, they won’t be a playable race. There are a few dwarves out there, simply because they can help better supporting the fight against the dragon on the sideline, rather than the frontline, like Ogden
Am I the only one who is hoping that they don’t add any new elite specifications? We have enough diversity. You can’t tell me that you can handle all classes in all game mods. I don’t want a new meta, where probably all you actual gear gets outdated and you have to spend tons of gold in new gear…
Apart from the point that they will need 3 more years to balance the classes in a playable way…
What I want is a loooooooot of new content. Just give us 20 new Maps, we barely have seen 50% of Tyria, give us story missions like in gw1, 2 for each new map! Add a hardmode. Don’t waste your time in new classes or elite specifications.

AFAIK the new specializations were already leaked.
I understand how you feel. Id really like a lot of new maps as well. Just to get that feeling from release back But having a new way to play my warrior would also be very cool
I think the ship has sailed on new classes the moment they introduced the elite specialisation system. The mere fact that each new class means it’s a multiplicative increase in balance, design, etc. effort makes the simple thought of new classes getting added ridiculous.
New race, maybe, though even that would be a HUGE amount of work in retroactively fitting armor skins for said race.
Personally I was hoping for a tad more elite specialisations, not just 1 new one inbetween expansions per class, but I understand the effort and balance nightmare that goes into creating them.
Both. Want a new class + new line of specialization for every class, just like HoT.
I don’t really want mounts or a new race, those things are useless.
Anet already stablished they aren’t adding more Professions, just new Elite Specs.
IMO their plan is a good one.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Pretty sure this isn’t the reaction the OP was looking for.
Why poll for something that simply won’t happen?
