For those that dont like Lions Arch
Didn’t they say if Evon won LA would have a better defense and the damage would have been less?
Well rumors have it that the changes would have been more substantial https://youtu.be/fMOK8ZyIjEQ?t=19m59s

Good ole Evon
Following the destruction of Lion’s Arch, Captain Gnashblade fled to a refugee camp in the northern hills of Gendarran Fields. Under the orders of Captain Kiel, he was conscripted into the Lionguard under General Emergency Statute 14 and forced (along with all other Black Lion Trading Company merchants), to act as a deputy quartermaster for the Lionguard, upon pain of death. Since then, he has blackmailed Heal-o-Tron to act as his spy on the Captain’s Council.
“I thought the candidate who spent the most gold always wins. I was robbed!”
This is supposed to make Evon look bad? All I see is a vengeful political rival abusing extreme governmental powers to harass a civilian.

You’re right. Nothing wrong with a little blackmail, vote buying or fleeing a warzone after first making sure all your money and goods gets out with you (and closing the door in the face of panicked civilians). Who could possibly find that distasteful?
ANet may give it to you.

Far better than rising to power based solely on claiming fame for the exploits of others (MY exploits) in southson, where “she” repressed the uprising of a forced labor camp. Should have left her to rot on that island and let Canach take her place.

Heal-o-tron is a serial traitor and known fugitive. He should be locked up in a Seraph jail, except for the extraordinary (and rather suspicious) action of Magnus and Kiel in granting him sanctuary. I, for one, sleep better at night knowing that an upstanding pillar of the community is keeping an eye on him.
As for vote buying… well, Evon selflessly offered a discount on his own goods in the election. Whereas Kiel, in some shifty behind-the-scenes deal, somehow coerced the Asura into giving discounts on the entire waypoint network. You have to ask yourself… why would the Asura do such a favour for a bookah politician in another city? Again, very suspicious.
Perhaps Evon’s actions during the siege were less than heroic, but one can hardly blame a civilian for that. And it certainly paid off for all of Lion’s Arch. While Kiel and Magnus struggle to perform basic fixes to infrastructure (and flaunt their emergency powers over civilians), the life of LA was only restored in the thriving trading communities that struck up around Black Lion merchants. But for Evon’s wealth, LA would still be a ghost town, populated only by the occasional tired worker fruitlessly hammering on bridges.

I’ve never claimed that she was better. But it does interest me that so many posts overlook what he did and make him sound like he was was so much better and it was others holding him back kept him from defending LA. However his actions showed that when the attack came, his main concern was his own finances.
I would have thought that a Charr’s first instinct would be to take control of the troops and lead the battle, not lead the dolyaks to the nearest portal.

It’s fun to spin things in favour of him.

Racial stereotyping? Tut tut.
My question is did Kiel win because of the players votes or because it was the story that the writers wanted to tell/fractal that the designers wanted to build, with only the illusion of choice.

You would be pretty naive to think otherwise. Its like asking if WWE is scripted.
P.S I deeply apologize to every wrestling fan who thinks otherwise and is profoundly offended by my insensitive comment.

If you take various devs at their word, it was up to the players, including several dungeon builders who wanted to do the abandon fractal.
If you would rather believe conspiracies against folks’ word then I’m not sure why you’d want to play this game.

Its hardly a “conspiracy” when a gaming company decides to rig player votes to advance a plotline in their product. It is not illegal or immoral or even offensive to do so.
As to why I play this game, well it isnt for the Living Story season 1 thats for sure.
Nevertheless, I am not in a position to deny the vote wasn’t legit, but the closeness of the vote made me pretty suspicious and fall of abaddon fract v reactor fract? Come on.

Yeah, I bet the stuff he’s selling is what he took through that asura gate he closed behind him during the attack…

You mean like the page from the WWE playbook our real life politicians in the U.S. took? <politician> Look we’re energizing our base by faux fighting. Let’s fight every day in media. Where “energizing our base” is also known as raking in more money. Regardless of the negative impact on our society it causes.
Nevertheless, I am not in a position to deny the vote wasn’t legit, but the closeness of the vote made me pretty suspicious and fall of abaddon fract v reactor fract? Come on.
As I brought this convo into real life, the outcome of the vote resembled real life voting outcomes enough to imagine it was plausible.

I think ANet has made a tactical error with possible future rebuilding of LA. They’ve introduced areas like that skyship or the royal pavillion where, if you buy a special ticket with gems, you get access to an area where all the NPC’s and crafting stations you need are conveniently in a small area. Gems can be bought with in-game gold, but also with real life money. Fixing LA means less motivation for players to buy these perma-tickets, which means less money for ANet. Conversely, players that bought these tickets might be angry if LA gets turned into the free version of what they paid extra for.
