Forcing players to complete dungeons = bad I think
Guild Wars 2
You’ve got 28 days to do 5 dungeons.
Is that really difficult to achieve?
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
Story dungeons count too, go help some new players and have some relaxing fun if you don’t want to risk not being able to do cof2 (or do cof1 again)
Laurels are not mandatory.

I hope you know Guild Wars is named after a lore event that happend many years ago and not after a game mechanic.
No one is forcing you to complete the daily.
You’re not being forced to do anything.

I hate open world pve, particularly dynamic events. I hate having to walk around and look for them, or waiting for them to happen, as well as relying on people around me to help finish them. I also think its ridiculous I have to spend so much money just to get the salvages I need for monthly. I just want everything accessibly from LA. Can I complain now?
/endsarcasm
Cof path 2 is harder now that suicide runs are impossible. Try going for ac explo (arguably easiest of all explo), TA is pretty easy too once you get the hang of it. CM probably but except the seraph path unless you have a mes/thief to make it easier. And I don’t think its unique dungeon runs (omg the horror!) so just keep on doing Cof path 1 over and over again till you finish it.

He has a point though.
If you’re struggling with bad groups, get organised within a guild.
If you want to go lone wolf, don’t complain about PUG’s.

I empathise with the OP, I hate dungeons as well, not because I don’t want to do them (I want the rewards) but because getting into a group can be hours and sometimes days in the waiting… (I’ve only managed to get into a few groups and they were my WvW Guildies)
For me when its time to do a dungeon it becomes ‘LFG Wars’. :P

You’re welcome.
p.s- You’re playing an MMO, get over it. You dont need the monthly if you’re too lazy to do a small requirement for it. Sheesh.
You don’t need to do dungeons to get laurels. You still get endgame stuff just doing the dailies that don’t require any dungeons.
It’s slower but If you put in less effort you get less.
The dungeon requirement is not that large. Why should you get achievement credit for not achieving anything?
I agree with everyone who is telling the OP why he’s wrong. If we cut out everything from a monthly or daily that someone didn’t like, we’d have nothing left. People are even complaining about the crafting part of dailies! In my opinion, anything and everything that is a part of GW2 is fair game for dailies and monthlies.
How does it take more than 5 minutes to get into a group? Get into a guild! If you don’t like it and want to be a loner then deal with it… seriously. There are NO cons to just joining a guild. I love my guild but I’m also in another guild JUST so I can talk to them and invite them on runs. I believe my rank in that guild is something like “Dungeoneer”.
And with gw2lfg.com, you never have to wait more than a few minutes to do any activity ever again. I spend at the most 10 minutes looking for groups for odd activities during odd hours (for me and most of America) and that is just passively people joining my party while I work on other things.
Now, to be honest. I dislike the crafting part of the daily. It is super easy… and that is kinda why. It seems lame to tack that on there so I can go and transmute a few ore into ingots.
Dailies and Monthlies are meant to pull people away from their normal routines to experience the rest of the game.
If you don’t like it, don’t do them.
The reward for completing those achievements are meant for flexible players who want to enjoy the game’s entirety. If you won’t do this, then you’re simply excluded from the reward.

Why do they force you to do dungeons?
Why do they force you to participate in events?
Why do they force you to salvage items?
Why do they force you to complete dailies?
Who even forces you to do the monthly achievements?
This topic is pointless.

So, you’d be okay with having to craft a legendary as part of a monthly, say? I mean, legendaries are part of the game and there’s got to be plenty of players that could manage to craft a legendary if given a whole month. lol
Why be lazy?

I wonder if the name came after the “mechanic”? I wonder if the lore of GW was built around the fact that guild battles would be a heavy focus of the first game? Research time.

If there was “Farm 100 veteran karka” for monthly I would hate it, but I would still do it because the rewards are worth it. Maybe some people think they can get it by whining instead, but obviously they don’t care enough about it or they would be doing it. But, that’s beside the point as there are many things not everybody will like. None of them are required.

Such a hard thing to do wouldn’t have laurels attached in any significant quantity. Laurels are given to monthlies, and the monthlies are easy.
I’m addressing everybody that has a problem with this, not necessarily the thread author.
The concept is very simple. The dailies and monthlies are essentially saying, “If you do X, you’ll get Y as a reward”. If you’re not prepared to do X then you forfeit the eligibility for Y. Nobody is forced to complete it.
“But I need Y to do something!” – Forum poster.
Wrong, you want Y.
Sure, you may not particularly like doing X but you probably do like Y so simply partake in the activities that will get it for you. It may not be what you usually do but the only way to cater to everybody’s playstyle is simply to change the dailies and monthlies into time logged in, which is assuredly, a mistake.
Bottom line, you’re not forced to do any of the monthlies. Rest assured, your characters will not be deleted if you fail to meet the requirements, you may not get Y but if you refused to do what was necessary to get Y, it will not be handed to you for logging on.

monthlies are optional. If you don’t feel like doing them, don’t do it. Last monthly made me hate it because of WvW kills. I did not complain though, because I wanted the reward. Nobody was forcing me to do it.
You’re playing an MMO, get over it.
MMO means Massively Multiplayer Online. Lots of people online playing at the same time.
It’s not MMOPIAG. Massively Multiplayer Online Playing In A Group.
I don’t have much opinion on the dungeon monthlies. I don’t like them, but I’ll do them because I want my monthly achieve. Once I do my 5, I won’t go back until next month. It could be worse, it could require fractals or PvP, so I won’t complain about 5 dungeons.
But it always amazes me that the argument to people who don’t like certain aspects of the game are, “well too bad, you’re playing an MMO”, but don’t even understand what MMO means.

Ahh, but being manipulated (and not even recognise you are )to play the way the devs want you too, then pretending that all is well/optional/not forced too and then do it anyway. You should be staying away/voicing an objection to devs, but playing anyway only reinforces that devs can do what ever they want and move away from their original ideas for the game. And just for the record, what they did to the dailies was wrong too.

I agree, perhaps its because I tried with mostly low level players but we tried a AC run the other day and got obliterated by the last boss, like it wasnt even close, there is ZERO chaqnce we are ever going to beat a dungeon till we seriously level up a bit. Im level 64, they were all 35-45. There were 5 of us, im the only one who didnt die at least 30 times I only went down maybe 6 times.
IMO making the monthly require you to be max level to accomplish(at least that was my take on my only dungeon run, that you need to be almost max level to have a chance) is just bad programming and unfair to all the below level 50 players.
So far as i can tell the monthly is pretty much a joke to low lvl’s and only there for the end game players, which is why IMO it should NOT be the fastest way to earn laurels.
Im going to push hard for lvl 80 and try and pull off 5 by the end of the month but my only whack at it so far has left me with zero will to try it again…..
Being rewarded for doing nothing was never part of the original idea for the game.

If the way you want to play is “do nothing and get rewarded” I don’t see how that’s a very good design philosophy in general. There are pros and cons to different ways to do things, making things effortless is generally nothing but con.

so you feel like the game should be catered to your needs only?
Let’s listen to me now and from mostly a PvP oriented MMO let’’s cut out WvW. Now let’s listen to you and take away the dungeons. Someone else probably hates Spvp, fractals, dynamic events and all the other things. If the game was personally catered for everyone we would have nothing in it left.

Obviously, but the monthly should still be obtainable by all players, even the low levels, which dungeons runs being required doesnt do.

AC story
Next catastrophe?
…this being a typical fantasy MMO, I can basically do that achievement in as little as an hour and a half each day after work.
EDIT: okay maybe not. But an hour and a half each day, and i can finish that achievement in two days.

leveling is really fast in this game. by the end of the month you have a high chance to be level 30- 40. If you manage to get to 40 – 45 run AC story and AC explore without worrying too much. If you’re only 30 tackle the story 5 times. It will be hard, but it’s doable.
Daily/monthly stuff is what it is.
It’s not about good experiences so much as an arbitrary grind to shut up the grinders.
Personally, I’m just looking forward to the next stages of things, for the living story to get good and maybe get some new fractals.

Nope, don’t need them to cater to me. However, that appears to be the way it is going-trying to cater all, not changing what needs to be changed, changing what many don’t think needs a change-changing stuff for no reason, nothing left except for the top tier players. Bottom line—they will lose many.
BTW—not changing the story mode so that you can complete it solo—is just an example of how they ignore common sense and opinion. (@ Rifter)

Just don’t do them if you don’t like them. You’re not required to complete a single dungeon for anything. not monthly quests, not daily quests not personal quests. It won’t amount to a hill of beans in the game. I don’t like dungeons in general so i don’t do them and yet I’m still having fun.

I am not complaining about the dungeon req, but I don’t believe this is correct, either. Achievements are something to do. The biggest problem MMO’s have is providing enough to do to keep players playing. Trying to entice people into things they’d rather cut an arm off than do is not going to fit that bill.
I think that eventually ANet will offer alternative paths to the monthly achievement, just as they’ve announced they will do for dailies. Why? Because they will realize it is better to keep as many players busy as possible.
Until and unless they do, though, the monthlies are what they are.

Celtic Lady, just in case you aren’t being intentionally obtuse (your recent forum posts suggest that it is, in fact, intentional, and that you just love to try and incite argument), I’ll explain why legendaries, while fair game, would not make a good monthly. Each monthly is in increments. 0/5, 0/100, 0/500, depending on how much work and effort is required to accomplish them. The amount and type of work necessary is determined by ArenaNet. While part of the game, legendaries would never be included in a monthly because the effort to create such an item would far surpass what could be expected of a player in one month. Now please stop being ridiculous – it’s to the point where I recognize your forum name on the spot because of it.
Dont do it if you dont want to, people cry about everything. The worst one is crying about dodge, really ? wake up guys this is MMO not the sims
