I have to say that the lack of forethought in this game is of some concern

Today’s experience showed me many things

A) A new event in Lions Arch but serious lag issues during the initial fight
Surely those at anet knew a great many people would be turning up for it?

B) Not all of us like to grind dungeons
this for me then has become a non-event

C) because there is a dungeon in LA now and no LFG function there are many who will have their searching for group messages Suppressed

Just looking at those three things leads me to believe that thought about what anet is producing is there but thought about what the consequences of that production are not

I would blame it on Anet being new to this sort of game. But they’re not. So, I literally cannot fathom a reason for their apparent lack of general foresight. Perhaps they have more stuff in the works? I get tired of trying to be super optimistic about all the happenings of late.

I just keep getting a feeling of desperation here and the thought that if we smother the players with new content they will not be bored but the consequences of this and of all the new content have not been thought through properly in my opinion

I foresee that the new dungeon will be one of those elitist things leading to that old mmo catch 22 where groups will form only if you have certain armour pieces. Armour Pieces which you can only get in that particular dungeon.

This will lead only to a negative outcome

I agree, we’re not headed in a positive direction unless we change course while we can. But it’s important to distinguish – the mindset of the players desiring only the ‘top’ (whether relevant or not) geared combatants is the way of life for games like this. However, shame on Anet for giving them a way to show such attitudes, aka Ascended gear. What was so wrong with GW1’s max armor system?

Maybe Anet has a big picture in mind that we can’t see yet. But right now it looks like a chaotic mess that they are sporadically creating with the hope of striking gold somewhere on the way.

I think the word “hope” in your post is what anet is relying upon and sadly if it really has come to that then you know the relevant amount of forethought has not been put into the game

Yeah. The saddest part is that I love the game – honestly I haven’t played it nearly as much as others and there is tons and tons of content for me still to do. But it all feels meaningless if at the end of my hard work I know that gear-chasing awaits me. Often I literally contemplate launching the game for a few moments but ultimately decide to chill on the forums instead and talk it out with the other posters, because that feels more entertaining sometimes. Which isn’t good.

Putting the dungeon entrance in LA almost surprised me as much as the new gear treadmill. During Halloween it was fine because it was just a short event… but unless this new dungeon is moved out of LA, /map is going to be a mess. LA /map has always been a decent place to chat about everything from the game/patch and more off topic subjects like elections/history/etc (at least on my server).

LA /map was already filled with “LF2M FotM, 80 exotics”, and “stop spamming chat, if you are looking for a group for that dungeon, stand by the dungeon and use /say”, and a bit more back and forth. Besides, Lion’s Arch already has so much stuff in it already… and I don’t want to be thrown into an overflow every time I enter LA. Why it wasn’t put in a more sparsely populated zone I do not know.

I have two level 80 Characters I don’t think there will be a third level 80 and I agree with you about the feelings you get just before you double click that gw2 exe file. Stangely enough I reinstalled a strategy game on my computer which now give me more pleasure than this game.

Basically Anet has mandated the creation of a ‘LFG’ chat channel, or FotM should be moved. I would honestly prefer the former, but it might never come despite player feedback.

With regards to the increase in the numbers calling for the ability to be able to check other players gear if that happens then dungeons especially high level ones will become the dreaded mmo catch 22

The LFG channel would perhaps be a help but the problem with this is that so many in one town LFG that Message Suppression is almost inevitable and the time it takes to have that dropped from your chat is quite long

Perhaps the ability to form random groups for dungeons or guild groups would be better it would certainly alleviate most of the problems
