I don’t understand the huge desire for more playable races (Tengu, Kodan, etc). They are nothing more than different looks since all of the racial skills are crap. What would really be interesting would be new professions and weapons instead! I would love to learn a new class with new weapons instead of the same old professions with a new species.

Is there something I am missing?

Agreed, I do not care much for new races. imo it only creates more problems for the armour and weapon designers.
Now a new profession, I would not complain about that.

It would be nice to have new ways to interact with the game. I feel like nothing has changed on the players side since launch. All the skills are mostly the same (Slight nerfs/buffs not withstanding) and the professions are all mostly the same as well.

Again, not saying the game hasn’t changed. Just saying the way we play inside of it it hasn’t.

Yes, with a new race it is logical to assume there would be a new map region including race city, starting area etc. Even if they added it onto an existing region similar to how Asura and Sylvarie are part of Maguma region Anet should include a city, begining zone and 2nd zone with a new race.

Forget new professions, I want new skills for existing class!

Why bring another profession when you could simply add more skills to existing professions. What I’d find cool is that you can swap your weapon skills. You could only change your skill with a similar skill. Ex : Change auto attack #1 with a auto attack #2. For guardian, that could be that for GS, instead of having a 3 chain attack, you get a 1 attack that does something specific.

New class would just create more balancing issues. I have seen many class suggestions over the past two years and none of them have been unique. They’ve all been a blend of two or more existing classes.

It’s almosy always “Death Knight” (because Arah armor and black dye don’t exist amirite?) or misplaced nostalgia begging for dervish or ritualist back while forgetting that those classes ended up being trash because anet had no idea how to balance them.

I mean, ritualist? Really? why exactly would spvp need another turret bunker class?

No reason we can’t have a plethora of new maps without new races. To me, it actually makes sense to open other parts of the world and introduce different fighting styles (new professions) and different weapons based of different cultures etc. In GW1 we went to Elona, we got the Paragon and Dervish; we also went to Cantha and got the Assassin and Ritualist. Making the Tengu a playable race would open one map, maybe two. Nothing on the scale of an expansion. Same goes for the Kodan.

Besides, once we are done exploring the new starter zone and race storyline, we are back to exactly the same place we were before. Same classes, same WvW, same dungeon meta, same everything…oh except now people can look different.

I agree.

I want a Soldier Profession that does not lean up against the classic Warrior and Paladin archetype.

I’d like to see a Soldier class utilizing the more steampunk orientated elements of the game. Something unique to Guild Wars 2. I feel the Warrior and Guardian of GW2 has been seen in every other game out there.

I thought the Aetherblades were tremendously cool, and I would love to play a Profession built around their looks and weaponry.

Balancing issues won’t go away whether or not new classes are added. That’s not really a good reason to not add things.

Of course it is a good reason. The more things are added (whether in the form of new weapons or skills or traits or classes), the bigger the issues become. Just because there are balance issues now and just because there will always be balance issues doesn’t mean that the issues can not become bigger.

It was more of a response to the post that someone made that new races shouldn’t or wouldn’t be added because of armor design difficulties.

Also professions are less work for the guys designing the armor (this seems to be
a time consuming work since we don’t get new armor that often).
It requires 5 races * 2 genders = 10
A race would require: 8 professions * 2 genders = 16

And it would have a much larger impact on the way you play Pve, PvP, WvW than a race which would only add to the story and cosmetic.

I think a profession would add more to the game than a race.

I know it will never happen, but I would love to see really unique and totally unblanancable PvE only weapons with skills that that are fun and interesting and simpler to design and release since they don’t have to limit themselves to PvP balance.

I think adding more races makes sense once the lore of the current ones has been explored. This is clearly not the case yet. The Sylvari, Asura and Norn simply can’t reach the same depth when it comes to lore & history than the Humans and Charr. Adding another race to the pool anytime soon would only divert attention from the current races and they would have to be revisited at a later point.

We are currently learning a lot more about the Sylvari which in my opinion is great since they were the most mysterious of all the races (even to themselves). I think until the moment Mordremoth is dealt with the writers at Arenanet won’t introduce another playable race. The Sylvari are currently in the spotlight and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

New classes with expanded weapon choices for each class would make be better. I’m not all too fascinated about the different races anymore.

It’s how each class has its own disciplines about combat that makes things more interesting.

Don’t really care if new race or new weapons/skills as much as it includes new ways to play.

The game’s been figured out too much and the limited skill sets have made it kind of stale for a lot of people. Throwing something into the mix (or many things) would definitely be a breath of fresh air and would possibly very much change the state of the game.

Not to mention it is much easier for the 3D modelers, and I’d rather see more options made for existing races first as well as some of the awful clipping issues fixed.

That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying that one should be careful with adding gameplay-options. I think that new professions are potentially much more damaging than a few new skills or weapon options.

For me, I know how to moderate myself. I have played 0 hours of necromancer and I have limited play on guardian so if a new race comes up, that will be my reason to roll either.

Why not roll one now? I could, and I want to but if I rushed off to try everything, I wouldn’t have the enthusiasm to do so now and I have plenty of fun with the characters I have maxed now.

You’d be thinking of the Aetherblade Thumpers, I presume, since most of the other Aetherblade types are reasonably contained within a single profession?

I’ve generally thought that the Thumpers could be well represented by giving a mace as a mainhand weapon option for the engineer – their shield throw is basically a buffed form of the shield throw for Static Shield. That’s not to say that a ‘steampunk heavy’ couldn’t be done, but a mace/shield engineer would probably just about do it.

(Such a setup would require the engineer to use a kit for a ranged weapon, but I don’t see that as a major issue. Plenty of people on conventional weaponswap professions like guardian and warrior already pair up on melee weapons leaving them with no ranged option, and to be frank, certain kits like elixir gun and grenades make the regular pistol and rifle feel a little redundant. Not to say they don’t bring anything to the table, but having a default melee weapon with ranged kits would allow a build that mainly relies on kits for ranged to have a melee option without having to add the tool kit to their bar.)

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
