Forging Ascended
I’m guessing it is more to do with the trait changes and the fact that they no longer give stats. Which is also why they are both coming out at the same time.
Yeah I’m sure in the last 48 hours they quickly just coded in some Ascended item stats swapping as a mechanic.
The mystic forge tech is already there. It’s simply a game of match the IDs. They could have it thrown it in overnight with little effort.
When the eater was planned will be determined by how it’s acquired. If it’s tied in to the event and makes sense, it was probably planned. If it’s voiced in any way, it was planned a while ago.
Mystic forge is definitely doable in a couple days. You just need to code the formula for what goes in and what comes out as well as the probabilities. Ore-eater .. maybe it was fast-tracked?
I remember a specific dev being thanked for working over a weekend to fix(?) something a while back — also the result of some big controversy, but I can’t remember which one. For these two announcements, Colin specifically thanked the devs, as if they put in some overtime.
It definitely takes months to code and QA all a new recipe or item.

If it takes months to add a mystic forge recipe, then they’ve got some seriously bad programming practices. There shouldn’t even be any programming involved: just data entry.
As for QA, if they really needed to rush this out for Tuesday, they can do it without QA.
If you really believe that this was a spontaneous change, I suggest you read through this:

Nothing as potentially economy-changing as this is spontaneous or on a whim.

If it’s damage control, then maybe they felt they had to do it.
I seriously doubt they developed this for damage control. It looks like they’d planned this for the feature pack.
When they chose to announce it, however? That, I suppose, could have been damage control. lol
um, yeah, this was a planned change. anything like this has to be approved and such.. conceptualized, worked out, bugs worked out, tested, etc… that’s more than 2 days work for the size of the database of just ascended stats alone, not to mention mystic forge recipes. this has been coming for a while.
dragonite ore is a no brainer. bloodstone dust and emp. shards came out. durr. there’s like, a pattern or something.
