Why? The Mordremor attack finished, The plant there is long gone, LA is rebuilding,

And why was the WP closest to PvP/WvW/EotM chosen to be contested and not e.g. the one close to mystic forge or Fractals?

Ceterum censeo SFR esse delendam!

From a lore point of view.

The waypoints work better on top of the leylines. Taime repaired the existing waypoints, making them less interesting for the vines. However, it is said that the vines where part of Mordremoth himself and Mordremoth is far from defeated. So repairing it is very insufficient.

As for why the one closest to PvP/WvW?? likely cause you can enter that from any place in the world, while that doesn’t go for the forge orfractals. impact would be 10 times as big then.

Indeed, the “fix” for waypoints was to make them less appealing to Mordremoth. On the other hand it would fit with the lore if they would build a new WP right there and use the new tech to hide it.

Granted, i don’t know why you would use that wp, there is nothing there that is not at other LA hub points.

To split zergs away from fort Marriner. At that time other ares become more popular, players start to call it " my palce " they make habit for porting there. Then stealthy fort’wp become unlocked, the most clever brains start only wp there and proclaim about greatness of this wp and some will be baited, but many will stick to their persuaded habit.
