Forums are currently 80% of negative impression players, or players that find immerse ammounts of things they could or would improve, and make suggestions.

But in game, you barely find anyone, who has negative impressions or opinions of the game.
Why is that?

I tell you, because the problems player feed to forums are so bad, it forced them out of game, and are waiting, and more likely hoping they get fixed, or implemented (as it as actually even promised).
The only reson they post at all is the hope this can get better.

I can not understand those, that say something like " no dont do it its bad and it is good as it is, thy arena net"
You bought the game, enjoy it, but dont destroy it for others, by stopping the imrpovement and suggestion that could or would improve the gameplay for others.
ADDING can rearely destroy games. But refusing to add, now that DOES.

To start with please don’t make up statistics. Where did you come up with 80%? There are just as many positive posts as well.

2nd you answered your own question. In-game means people are playing something they like for the most part. Why would people who hate the game at its current state waste time logging in playing? If you went to a restaurant and hated the food and service would you keep going back? No. But you would post about it on Yelp and other places and likely their website if they had forums in hopes they get better.

There have been discussions in game as well but not that many and as already posted, the people who are playing are busy playing. When they have a complaint they come here.

Simple as that.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

Forums as a faceless form of communication by their nature attract more negative than positive posts. I think most people accept that now, especially on gaming forums.

Doesn’t necessarily mean what they are saying is wrong mind, it’s just the way it is put across isn’t as friendly/constructive/patient as it should be. I believe there is a sticky at the top of forum to this effect.

Would you stay around those forums for the restaurant for months complaining about it? No, you would post a negative review and move on. People that are mostly negative on this forum, tend to stay for months.

I can make a single statement based on me. My history, in 10 years of MMO gaming is, if I am happy with the games, I’m not on the boards.

Speaking for myself alone, if a game has a flaw that makes reading the boards more entertaining than playing it indicates a problem.

Starting to frequent the boards, for me, usually means I will be moving on soon.

Also, when you are upset you want someone to hear you and respond to what you are saying.

Since CS doesn’t do that and the forum does…guess what’s more interesting when you want to be heard?

Honestly, it’s not the whole forum.

It’s just a few people, and always the same ones.

People like Bojangles, Gehenna, Nayru, Powercat or something, etc who post negative stuff every day, you can see them starting negative threads or posting in every thread, often repeatedly to keep the thread going.

(why am I not surprised to see them in this thread already)

Many who complain do so out of love for the game and a desire to see improvements where they think the improvements are needed. It’s just a different, more emo form of fanboyism when you think about it.

It’s fine, let them do it. Complaints can lead to good additions to the game.

The game’s incredibly high quality speaks for itself

Your experience differs from mine. You should hear the stuff on a voicechat server and/or in a guild full of long-time MMO players/gamers in general, who think critically. Even with all the complaining, those kind of players are still playing because of friends and because it’s technically free, and because it only takes the very occasional high point in your experience (and there still are those for even the most jaded and bitter player) to make you come back for more – it’s the addiction mechanism at work.

ADDING can rearely destroy games. But refusing to add, now that DOES.

That’s worrying. If there’s no one talking about the game online, it’s basically meaning that the map is empty or social element is not there. In mmorpgs I’ve been to, no matter how much the negative talkers comment in-game, they still log in and playing it.

I believe another factor is because there’s no world chat in GW2. It seems to be the only mmorpg that doesn’t have a world chat option. The world would be more livelier if there’s a world chat. This contributes to social interaction in-game and lessen it to look like a single player console game. The game needs to look more like a mmorpg.

tbh trolling map chat is one the main things I do while leveling.

Just start a conversation there’s always someone leveling somewhere in the area who will give as good as he/she takes.

The negative comments aren’t just on this forum. All of the unofficial places are getting the same treatment with the various fanboys fighting back. Many guilds have their own chat and forums and from what I’ve seen this latest move isn’t being well received.

Edit: And as Zid just said, a lot of guild rosters are inactive, so any negative comments are being made by the people haven’t already given up.

In game is different. People there are doing something they like, like WvW or dungeons, or the Fractals. Outside of those people there are large number who are seriously reconsidering if they still want to play this game.

Edit: Frankly a group of players have been punished for doing what players do, looking for ways to make some gold, and this in a game where our options are deliberately being limited. These early adopters to the game market have been labelled early exploiters and IMO that’s just plain wrong.

My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.

talking in the game is not only about complaining you know. Just last night I had a lengthy discussion about politics on the LA map chat lol.

Most of the additions requested that get negative responses fall into two categories:

1) Change some fundamental aspect of the game that would remove an aspect of the game that people currently enjoying the game like – and often an aspect that was a key selling point for the game.

2) Give me some advantage and reward for doing the things I enjoy that is better than someone else gets for doing what they enjoy.

Also you have to look at it this way…

If you want to convey a complaint, you usually try to use the best format to be heard. Stating complaints on general chat in LA is not as effective as on these forums…. because a moderators screening threads are more likely to pick up discourse of a particular issue better than screening the LA chat log. Also, what if I’m in Wayfarer Foothills or some other map and have a complaint? Again, easier to have all the complaints regardless of zone condensed into a forum threads than specific lines buried in a huge log of on-going text.

To the OP:

You just have to give Anet more time to add or change things. You say refusing to add is bad…true, but adding too fast without weighing the consequences is just as bad, that’s how you mess up a game. Lots of people seem to forget that Gw2 was just released a couple of months ago. For MMO standards that’s not a long time.

Applies to every single MMO’s forum.

Gamers of the new gen use this logic:
- If the game has no stat treadmills then it “has no endgame”.
- If the game has stat treadmills then it’s a “grindy wow clone”.
- If the game has any form of pvp that includes more than 3-5 people it’s a “zerg”.
- If the game fast rewards, then it’s “there is nothing to do”.
- If the game has slow rewards, then “the game isn’t rewarding”.
- If the game is hard then “the game is gimmicky”.
- If the game is easy then “lol game is too easy”.
- If the game has trinity/DPS meters it’s a “wow clone”.
- If the game has unique team mechanics and no meters then “game lacks identity/roles”.

Read some threads and you’ll find all of the above and more contradictions.
Whatever path a game takes, there is some derogatory term (usually used improperly) to completely dismiss it.

I ultimately believe that there is a part of people that is done with MMOs but won’t accept it so keeps wandering them all and complaining every single thing.
They want a copy of WoW to feel familiar, but the opposite of WoW to not feel bored.

I feel pretty safe saying a criticism in map chat, expecting to not be disagreed with. I think all long-time players have to be honest about things that might have bugged them a bit at the start and are now driving them nuts.

Also, forumers are more invested than just 3-hr a week players.

Also also, criticism and suggestions are made by people who still have hope the game will improve. The truly negative ones quit.

Constructive criticism is good. Acting like a spoiled person who’s overturning the dinner table because you didn’t get french fries tonight is sadly what a lot of people are like online. And you don’t have to be. ANet is KNOWN for listening so you’re actually being heard but while awkwardly filling your request with a hate speech all the time.

Oh well. Maybe someday we can have universal maturity in the world but probably not.

I don’t mind complaints, even from the regulars on the forums. What I do dislike however are the people who parrot the exact same thing in every thread whether it has any bearing to the topic or not.

Forums in general are a place for people to voice their opinions, over the last several years it has become the place for disgruntled players to throw out made up percentages and spew forth opinions claiming them to be facts with no evidence to back up their claims. The D3 forums were probably the worst I had ever seen in my gaming life, and I played WoW for 8 years.

So, I say let the complainers complain, every once in a while a sliver of gold filters through the flood of crap that is actually a decent idea to improve on the game.

I’ve only just started to frequent the forums, and it’s not been to complain, it’s been to look at the suggestions of other players such as mounts and new armour and whatnot, and see the creative side of the community that’s into the lore and the art.

TurtleofPower and Redfalcon both make good points- there’s lots of keyboard warriors about, and some of them aren’t doing it intentionally, but rather they’re really deep into the game and set in their ways. The fact that there’s a stickied post saying be civil and nice to each other kind of sets the tone for the forums, there might as well be a sign saying Danger! Grumpy cavetrolls!

I think it comes down to the fact that most happy players are too busy pretending to slash at each other, falling to their death and harassing moa birds in game to comment on the forums. Sorry Moa birds.

There is a time factor here involved.

Criticism, although constructive, is a good thing. However, if problems persist – see your doctor. Lol no, but if problemss do persist, and they are core ones, it will deter more players from playing more often than not.

That’s true for me too. If a game plainly sucks, I can quit cold turkey. But for good MMO games, I can’t. If the game is doing okay, I rarely stay on the forum. But if it go to the direction I dislike, I will go to the forum to see if there is any hope it will make an U turn (usually nope) or maybe try to communicate (again usually useless). I will spend more and more time on forum and less and less time on game until I quit the game and there is no points to stay at the forum at all. That’s how I quit all games I played before.
