Fractal Skins? Why not Fractal Chests?
I like the idea of fractal chests since getting a skin and on top of that a skin you want is abysmal small.
Not even counting if you want to get them all. I’m currently missing 6 more skins, not counting on any of them helps keep me sane.
I disagree about being able to instantly buy the skins for fractal relics. That would devalue them tremendously. Maybe for 100 pristine fractal relics or so per skin. But even then there would be a great increase in skins.
Probably because very few people will run fractal once they have all their skin or skins they want.
There’s already enough QQ on the dungeon forum about poor fractal rewards. I doubt many people will run fractal once they have the skins.
Me personally I’m at 16/19. I’m missing the sword I really want. Kind of taking a break from fractal. Dont’ really felt like running fractal with that 0.5% chance of getting the sword.

Also this. If no complete revamp is made fractals will be as good as dead once people can buy the skins.
Some hardcore might run them here and there, but all in all the content would die.

They are already ingame, but only at Lvl 51+. We just cant get them until Anet releases that fractals update they were talking about when Fractured released.

When I talk to most people who don’t like running fractals, it’s not because they aren’t getting certain weapon skins, it’s because they just plain don’t like running fractals.
The more casually-oriented people can’t get the few out of 19 skins that they actually want. I don’t think they’re just going to do it over and over and over again when they never get rewarded at all, especially if it means having to grind up to higher level fractals.
Not only that, but there’s more to fractals than just the weapon skins. If that’s the only true incentive for running fractals, then they need to look at the entire reward structure, not just the skins themselves.
But yes, I agree that allowing people to select their skins would make the most sense. Currently, I’ve found the fractal spear six times, and only two of the other skins. It’s not that I outright dislike the fractal spear, but I there’s no point in “rewarding” me with something that I’ve already unlocked. If it were a selectable skin box instead, that’d make it so that people aren’t forever locked out of the skin they actually want, and people who want to collect all the skins don’t have to put up with useless duplicates.
It’s a similar reason to why they made the ascended gear boxes, so people would be able to have some options so that they didn’t get “rewarded” with something that was useless to them.
The skins are non-tradeable, so “flooding” the game with those skins won’t have any economical impact. It’s a bit hard to quantify their value because of this, so I don’t know you can really say having more of them would devalue the skin since the value is perceived rather than real.

True, many run fractals for fun. But taking away even 20-30% of the high level fractal population could cause a downward spiral.
- It would take longer to get groups -> less people try -> even harder to get groups.
- The elitism would get even bigger -> nothing besides meta would ever get taken along. Ever.
There is a lot of people sitting on thousands and tenthousands worth of fractal relics and hundreds of pristine fractal relics. These people would have no problem instantly getting the skin they are hunting for. I have in total gather over 10k fractal relics and close to 250 pristine fractal tokens.
The entire fractal reward structure is in need of revamp, yes. The biggest reason most people run them is for the skins and maybe an ascended chest. But that becomes pure twink or sidegrade toys at 50 anyway since by then you usually are fully decked out.
Maybe add in some minis, or a new set of skins with achievements. Or ascendend crafting mats buyable for fractal relics. Who knows.
Edite: I wasn’t concerned much with an economic impact but more with an impact on fractals as a whole and people playing them. True, economically this would have little impact.

Buy 1 damask for 10 pristine relics.
Add a mystic forge recipe :
1 fractal skin (any skin) + 1 ascended weapon composant (eg: 1 ancient blade) + 10 pristine relics + 10 shards of myst = new fractal skin (according to weapon composant)
As a Mesmer who has had Axes and Maces I would certainly prefer the chest system.
Alright, I suppose charging relics for skins may be a bit much. Still, the idea behind Fractal gear boxes would be most welcome. I am not sure why Anet didn’t follow through with improving upon Fractals upon checking that there was a Fractal Gear Box available, my guess is that we might see such a thing happening before the expansion hits. And considering that I am seeing Consortium guys popping when they weren’t before….
While you can’t buy Fractal skins, one of the main reasons people don’t run fractals is that it just isn’t rewarding.
A new player to fractals (reward level 1)
Can complete 1 fractal a day
-new players aren’t going to have fast runs (1hour+)
-receive 1 pristine
-receive 1 gold
In that 1 hour~ can complete
-AC 123 SE 13 CoF 12 (9g+)
Even a more experienced group or pug group you would probably expect to set aside 45 mins for a Fractal run 19/29/30/40/50 for bad rolls Swamp/Uncatagorized/Dredge/Solid Ocean
The issue here is, at level 50 you can get the exact same reward for completing the Fractal as you did at level 1
-receive 1 pristine
-receive 1 gold (might be more //I’ve stopped paying attention to rewards// but is currently insignificant to the difficulty increase)
There is no guarantee that you will get an additional reward by completing a scale 50.
There is only a chance you will receive a Weapon Skin / Ascended Ring / Ascended Chest (weapon/armor) or at 41-50 a chance at the Fractal Tonic.
This is the problem with Fractals right now. Why complete 4 “mini” dungeons (that take as long or longer than most dungeon paths) for 1/4 of the reward and only a chance at a better reward.
I don’t run fractals because I don’t know enough people to avoid Pugs yet.
Last night fractal try, a guy/girl with supposedly level 50 fractal level joins our fractal run where we were teaching 2 guild mates which never did a fractal, what fractals are about.
It was a level 1 fractal, 4 of us knew each-other, 2 were entirely new to fractals.
Some guy with level 50 fractal joined us.
He proceeded to rush the start of the fractal, one of us was bugged out of the instance, had to restart it, he called us all noobs, left the group, wasted 20 minutes.
The LFG listing clearly said we have new people.
That’s why I don’t run fractals. Loot is the least of my concern.
