Fractal weapon Question
I think fractals weapons are of ascended quality, I don’t think you will lose the ascended quality if you chose ascended stats over the exotic stats when transmuting the skin will just change, though I could be wrong.
I asked this question a while back n no luck on any answers Just letting the weapon rot in inventory till update just in case.

I think fractals weapons are of ascended quality.
Direct observation tells me they are Exotics, i’m afraid. I doubt they will be bumped up a tier when real ascended weapons will be introduced.

You should totally transmute these, we will not change them into ascended items.
I would also like to point out that with transmutation you can continue to transmute the item later on. For example you could transmute a skin you put on an exotic weapon onto an ascended weapon.
in the future, might you add a way that we can swap our fractal weapon or do we have to grind the fractals and bet 2 rng’s to get what we want?
You should totally transmute these, we will not change them into ascended items.
You should totally give them actual stat bonuses so that we are not forced to transmute them to enjoy the skin with maximum exotic item stats.

i like it the way it is. because if they were to add stats they’d have to make them soul-bound on equip. having no stat on them make us able to “preview” the weapons in our hands instead of only in a window when we have it on our back/side.
great idea. and decpite. if they had stats there is only a 1/8 chance you get the correct stats .
If that is indeed the case, then still the better solution would be to make them previewable skin items like the Wintersday event items. You could right-click preview them, but then double-click to apply the skin to another item. I’d much rather forfeit the ability to wield-preview them than be forced to spend a Fine Transmutation Stone on them. It seems really cheap to me as it is.
What about when it comes to the Prototype Fractal Capacitor? I want to transmute my Capacitor (Ascended) to have the Mad Memories book skin.
Would I then still be able to place my Ascended back piece, with the Mad Memories skin on it, into the forge to infuse it? And if so, will I get back the Infused Capacitor skin, or would it still have the Mad Memories skin?
Basically, i want to have an ascended back piece, with the Mad King’s Book skin, and still be able to infuse it later on, without losing the Mad King skin.
Any word on this?

The Transmutation wiki article says if you transmute an item, it will no longer be compatible with any Mystic Forge recipes requiring that specific item. Transmuted items are considered to not have any of the properties of their component items. As far as I know infusion recipes aren’t an exception to this rule.
So, I would infuse first, then transmute.
