I took a wee break from GW2 recently. 200 hours in and I felt burned out, the combat was feeling duller, I was 80 but I didn’t feel there was anything left to do but repeat the same content with an alt, or grind in PVE. WVW was an option but why play that when I have Planetside 2?

I recently came back, however, hankering for some good ol’ PVE. I heard about these new fractal things and the new tier of item, wanting to get one, I excitedly asked if anybody in the guild wanted to run a fractal.

Turns out fractals work on a level system, and I’m level one. Everybody else is like..level 10-24. I cannot run those levels without infused items. Now, the only way to get those infused items or infusable items is to…the fun way…get them in a fractal drop, or grind dalies for weeks until I can afford them.

I was really alarmed to see this. I was under the impression Guild Wars was founded on a philosophy of inclusive content, pick up and play with friends, and no grind. What I found here was the very antithesis of everything I thought Guild Wars was about. A dungeon system I was barred from unless I was willing to grind up fractal levels.

Needless to say, fiding groups for a lvl 1 fractal has been utterly impossible, I’ve yet to find a single other person. Without a LFG system, I find all the fractal content and the new item content barred from me unless I’m willing to grind dalies for at least 30 days. I understand they want these items to be hard to attain and I don’t mind that, since there are players who like to grind for these items and power to them. I don’t care if I don’t have the best infused ring on the block yadda yadda, I’d be happy with a poor one so long as I could still run fractals with it. What I do care about is not having these items is barring me from content, content which I want to be able to enjoy with my guildies.

Your guildies can help you with your level one, why don’t they?

The first member to step into the Fractal chooses the difficulty level, this means that your guild mates can run through lower level Fractals with you, if they do not want that is not an Arenanet problem.

I got into Fractals long after most of my guild mates, but they have no problem running lower levels with me to get me to a higher level. In fact it is more beneficial as they can guide me through the various mechanics better than any PuG can.

I believe in a long, prolonged, derangement of the senses in order to obtain the unknown.

You don’t need agony resistance until higher levels. Join any group that’s level 10 or less and you will be fine, in fact level 10 groups are the most popular so you really shouldn’t have a problem finding a group.

You don’t need to find a level 1 fractal party, you can join a 0-9 party and level up 1 step at a time and you wouldn’t need any agony resistance. Even level 10-15 are perfectly doable without any agony resistance (originally you’d start to get agony resistance at those levels in the first place).
Do dailies, a grind?
Do fractals, a grind?
Craft a back piece, a grind?
If you say yes to these questions, then yeah, GW2 might not be your thing after all. To me, these things are fun ways of playing the game, not a grind. Feeling burned out after 200 hours of playing might be another indication that you might not like where this game’s taking you.

TBH doing something once a day over a period of time is not a grind. It’s more of a progression thing. A grind is where you have to do something for x amount of hours and usually people “power” their way through it by doing it as fast as possible thus why it becomes a grind.

Having said that I really don’t like the fact either that it will take me 10 days to make 1 ring and having to play every day for that 10 days. If I wanted to grind for it faster why not let me? Oh well I’ll play it their way but over a longer period when it suits me and I feel like doing it, thus making it my way. :P

PS thought I would make it clear that I’m talking about making the rings from fractals and not get as drops. You can do this once you hit level 10 by using the Pristine Relics that you get daily. You get 1 per day each day you do fractals. Hope that makes more sense now.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

All of this is solved as follows: Find a level 10 group.

You can still join higher levels. Just don’t go much higher without having any agony resistance.

Yeah, I think the comment of “Everybody else is like..level 10-24. I cannot run those levels without infused items” is false. You can run lvl 10-19 EASILY without agony resist…..there’s plenty of people that have done it.

The only problem is you have some people advertising for Agony Resist pugs especially on gw2lfg.com and so that can give the impression that it is needed.
