The new fractal dungeon has been out for quite awhile now. And I’m sure everyone has seen the main chat logs filling up with more and more people begging for groups of various levels. However after sitting back and watching this progress for some time, I’ve come to the realization that Fractals is quite literally fracturing the community and player base.

It was my understanding that GW2 was striving to create a stronger community by encouraging players to cooperate and come together; instead of separate them through vicious competition. If this is indeed true, then the new Fractals dungeon is in clear violation of that ideal.

The new dungeon drives separation between the community because everyone is in a rush to collect and obtain the new Ascended gear. This forces chat windows to be filled with dozens of people begging for groups of so-and-so fractal level. Why? Because no one is willing to step down even one level to help each other. As a personal example, I had watched one day while in Lion’s Arch that two groups kept posting “LF1M fract lvl 9”. And at the exact same time there were at least 2 individuals asking for groups as well. One for level 8 and one for level 10. NEITHER the group for level 9, nor the player asking for level 10 took it onto themselves to step ONE level down. This is what our community is coming to.

Furthermore, fractals gives NO influence what-so-ever at this current point and time. Which means that the people in guilds not doing fractals are facing the consequences. For example our guild went from 6k influence a day to less than 1k because people are doing fractals. This means that the rest of us who want buffs for WvW or PvE are essentially screwed because the few of us couldn’t possibly get the needed influence in a timely fashion. (This also makes me really worry for when the new guild perks/upgrades finally get released. Because many guilds will most likely being paying out of pocket for the necessary influence.)

So is it really just me, or has GW2 really destroyed their own vision? Or have they at the very least drawn a set of lines through the player base that will inevitable drive players further and further apart?

Thanks for reading,
— Kasandra

Not to mention the dirty grind.

You either grind the same content over and over till you get 1850 fractals or you grind painfully to get 50 ectos and 250t6 mats (and after that, it is 250 ecto, you know?)

They literally mentioned a while back, that this game won’t have as much of a gear treadmill as some other mmos.
However, 3 months down the road, suddenly we have received a new tier of equipment, which makes people step back up on the gear treadmill.
Furthermore, there are people now, who refuse to do the previous explorable mode dungeons, because hey, the gear you get there is inferior, unless you want to get it for the looks.
Quite a few arguments have arisen in our guild, because the guildmasters want players to help other guildies out, by willingly dropping down atleast some levels, to boost up those that have fallen behind. Mostly this has not been fruitful tho and the guild seems to have broken into essentially groups of 5 people, who are at a similar fractal level and only run dungeons amongst eachother.

This concerns me gravely.

I think fractals simply need a rework, I posted my idea in the suggestion section but it got completely ignored, I guess the title wasn’t exactly good-looking?

About Ascended gear, devs already mentioned those won’t be a fractals exclusive, it’ll probably be accessible through other meanings like dungeons, so it won’t be such a grind to survive agony.

The issue here is that the introduction of new content is concentrated to one location – FotM. Anet pointed this to be a “bad” choice, however, with time this will be rolled out throughout Tyria.

Stop complaining already.

Too many players have rushed the content, have nothing or few things to do, so they find a somewhat easy method to continue on with this via FotM.

No wonder many are feeling they are grinding – stop doing ONLY FotM!

If instead the players went to Orr more often, perhaps, many waypoints wouldn’t be contested as often and overall the gameplay would be better for everyone.

I wonder if anyone remembers Orr during the 1st month after launch – I bet more players were there and bunched up to do events and such.

There was this idea that we should be able to play with our friends, anywhere, any server, any level, and feel like we’re still rewarded by the game.

Fractals fails on this. It explicitly divides us up by fractal level, wedging teammates apart.

And of course it’s still a bug-infested pile of kitties, where if one player gets DCed, you’re broken, if the leader leaves, you’re all booted to Lion’s Arch, where you can’t group with friends on other servers unless you can manage to get into overflow…
