This is bullkitten. Its been a couple of months at least since there has been a free weekend for Guild Wars 2. I really want to show this game off to a friend but cannot since its no fun to get into with no prior knowledge while playing alone.

Steam has “free to play” weekends on certain games when they have special prices or promotions. I don’t think Gw2 needs this but I do recommend selling the game via Steam.

Guild Wars 2 isn’t on steam.

I think you can get GW2 for less than 40 bucks today. If your friends aren’t interested enough to invest that much, I wouldn’t count on them wanting to play past that free weekend anyway.

it would be nice to have more exposure via steam but ncsoft does not like sharing any profits with lord gaben.

I can sort of understand that, because GW2 lives and dies with the box and gem sales.

There will most likely be a free weekend when the feature patch releases.

I got the game last august after playing during a “Free weekend” and I know I’m not alone, so it’s definitely a good opportunity to sell more units for them as well as a great way for players to convince their friends to play the game. I’d love one too, I have friends who are on the fence about getting it without a “demo” or “free trial” first.

@ Tom Gore, I think reluctance doesn’t always come down to the cost but moreso being unsure about enjoying the game. As was my case, having come from a supernatural modern-day MMO I wasn’t sure I’d like the medieval fantasy aspect of GW2 until I had the opportunity to actually play it.

Not initially. Published in 2009, so four years after release.

GW1 took five years to have a free trial.

GW2 has already had a free weekend.

I think you should count your lucky stars.

Free weekends are cool, but not looking forward to the next one and the swarms of f2p gold seller advertisers like last time.

i bought this game after a friend of mine lent me his actual account, where he let me create a character and try out the game for around two weeks. i was actually very reluctant and against buying it right off that bat if i didn’t get to try it out first. don’t know what a free weekend is but i agree that they have to give potential customers a glimpse of what the game is to entice. A very limited permanent demo perhaps. when the game came out, the hardcores and the old followers had an idea what they were getting into. right now, it may be time to target the casuals.
