The problem now is, that they don’t need to buy the game, as they are unlimited in their free to play version. They found out that they don’t need the trade market to get exotic armour, they only need Karma so now they go jumping from boss to boss leeching karma. They are not bothered with quests or stories all they do is come for their leeching sessions and off they go. That is really annoying, we think they should be limited or given a free trial expiracy time. Their money and Karma storage should be limited. It is not really fair on the paying players.

They already got enough restrictions and cant enter the expansion without buying.
If they are content with being shut out of tradepost map chat whispers to 99% of the people only 3 instead of 5 up to 8 bag slots, cant send anything (and you ofcourse shouldent send any gold/items to them just to boost their leeching in your eyes right).
Then why should you wish more on them, just so they wont play at all?

Are they taking karma or loot away from you?

I bought gear with Karma; I’ve never purchased gear from the Trading Post. Should I be restricted, as well?

It’s part of the game, what’s the problem?

I’m not sure how this affects other players. I made a f2p account just to test it out, and without the trading post or friends, how do you expect them to get gear? I’m just not sure what the problem is, maybe if you rephrased your problem with this, we can understand better.

This is absolutely incorrect, F2P accounts have a huge multitude of restrictions. (https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/95982157-Account-types-Free-Core-HoT)

Unless of course, you mean unlimited purely in terms of time.

But I really don’t get your problem. You’re telling me that F2P accounts are leeching and that’s a big problem. I don’t think this is a F2P account problem, people have been leeching for ages with all kinds of account types.

F2P accounts have a tiny effect on the economy, so it’s not like these F2P accounts are karma fat-cats turning their karma into some tidy profit. Karma items are not directly tradeable (require 4 lots of them and the MF to get around this) and F2P accounts are limited hugely on what they can sell on the TP anyway.

If these accounts were botting, then yes, that is a problem as it’s against the ToS.

Wow. Seriously? What difference does it make to you if free accounts buy exotic armor with karma?

Unless you honestly believe that them “leeching karma” physically takes karma away from you (it doesn’t)….

They’re limited to core Tyria anyway. They can’t get into HoT without buying it.

And once they get their karma armor are they still going to be “leaching” events to get more karma armor? Or will they start “playing the game”?

How about when I created my (50 plus) ascended weapons and I farmed the mats for hours on end? I didn’t bother with quests or stories while farming. I zoned into a map, hit all the nodes and zoned out to the next map. By your definition what I was doing wasn’t fair to the other players.

Target farming karma for armor is a rational response to economic restrictions. When they get the armor, they’ll stop. Problem solved.

That sounds like the issue — not the play-for-free part.

Friends don’t let friends leech 100% of the time.

How is it leeching karma?

If they don’t participate in the event then they won’t get karma, if they do then they’re not leeching.

(I assume you are aware that karma, like all event rewards, is given out individually, how much someone else gets has no impact at all on what you get.)

I love how some people are actually worried that the f2p might give too much.

That’s the mark of an amazing f2p system.

Don’t worry about your friends, they’ll eventually get engaged with the game so much that they will want to buy the expansion. Happened with my friends.

I somehow doubt the OP is talking about friends at all……
Just bashing free accounts it sounds like to me and using this “friend” story as a cover.

If they were your friends OP why would you not try and sell them all the bonuses of buying HOT? You know like the masteries, gliding, new maps not to mention removing the 2 char slot restriction and other restrictions they have.

This thread smells bad to me….

It’s not leeching if it doesn’t affect you at all. If anything they would only gain karma if they helped. Are you losing anything by free players gaining karma? If not, what’s so annoying or unfair about it? Stop crying that you had to buy the game 3 years ago and now people get the core portion for free. Free players still can’t play HoT among other restrictions.
