I wasnt annoyed by it earlier, but now it kinda makes me feel unhappy.

Yesterday (having rerolled yet another character) i got to the point where the sylvari meet the Orders and the first quest is about choosing, if you want to play along with the Priory or the Vigil for some undead thingy.

Then choosing either to fight head on or with those tiny cute experimental golems of the Priory.

Of course i took the golems because they sounded more fun and invited my friend to walk along with me to those human lands to do it..

When we finally got there and the quest started, i suddenly realized that only i can control the tiny golem:

Which means my friend just has to practically sit through all the fun!!!
-I dont think this is fair nor fun..

My suggestion: Let your friends interact with the story quest’s things as well, just like for example allowing them to control the golem in this quest too (so there are 2 golems if you take 1 friend with you).. There are lots of those ‘’special type’’ quests that arent done by usual means, and its kinda boring for the friend just to watch and wonder whats going on….

I don’t think they ever really meant for the story portion to be played multiplayer, but were kind enough to leave the option in for those of us who want to try it. It’d be nice if story mode were a little more multiplayer (SWTOR had a bit of this), but I’d put that FAR down the hierarchy of priorities.

That would make it very very very easy though surely?
What if you were a level 12 and you had a higher level friend.
That friend could join you in your story and help you get to the
parts of your personal story that far exceed your own level.

I’ve done this myself, going over my level. I didn’t have help.
But with this, it could end up being a bit much?

There was one mission in story mode where you get put inside a golem due to the danger environment and have to venture inside a volcano-type area along with an asura NPC. What was interesting was that my entire party all had golem suits on too.

I’d agree with you Andovar,

Since me and my girlfriend play together most of the time I’m actually playing Guild Wars 2, it feels a bit distasteful to say the least, that only the player who’s story you’re doing is allowed to do well… anything. Quite a few times in the story all you’re doing is going back and forth talking to npc’s, collecting items, etc. And it’s a bit silly to even allow multiple people into a story if only one person is able to ever do anything.

What makes this system even worse, is that if you’re on the exact same story, the second player is just there to sit and watch, until any fighting commences. I have been thinking about this for a while, and how silly the whole setup is.

(Should have posted this topic in the suggestion portion of the forums)

@Humor: am in the same situation as you, i just let my gf start the story quests and let her read and make the choices since this is my 2nd char and her first. though would say if i was sharing this experience with anyone else for the first time, it would be a rather dull game.

I’d just be happy if more of the missions acknowledged that there was more than one player involved, even if it was just by, perhaps, showing the whole party in the cutscenes rather than just the mission holder, the way the GW1 mission cutscenes used to do.

Some of the story missions do seem to have methods of acknowledging this built in. For example, in missions where you need to duel an NPC, the other party members get ‘audience skills,’ which I think is great. And in one mission, both myself and my friend were turned into minotaurs, which was also very cool. I’d like to see more of that. But, I fully expect that the personal story missions will get gradually tweaked and changed, or perhaps more paths will be added (at least, I certainly hope so), so maybe we’ll see more refinement in the future, or improvements to them in expansions.

And if I may briefly go off on a tangent…
I suppose we can write this off as a psychological quirk on my part, but I find Trahearne enormously annoying when doing the missions with another person (one of my characters is part of a duo). When I'm alone I can accept the idea, albeit sometimes grudgingly, that his help might be valuable. But to have him effectively tell my partner and I that "you two can't possibly succeed at [insert relatively minor task] without my help" is just obnoxious. But at least we have a good time roleplaying our responses to him. ]

I actually like the way they do helpers in some of the personal story missions. I was helping a norn friend fight in a tournament and all my skills were replaced with cheers and boos. I could buff him and debuff hiss apponants, but i couldnt actually fight.

It may have seemed useless to me, but he had tried the mission right before I joined him solo and was unable to beat it. My cheers and boos made all the difference to him and I actually had to think and try and time things just right. it was like a mini game to me.

One day I was invited to join a another player in her personal story. We fought the whole gang of pirates together and without my help she would be pretty helpless, but with my help she could go on. so, I don’t see an issue, here, except in those rare parts of personal story, that you are supposed to finish them alone.

Guild wars should be war between orders, because orders are guilds too.
