Has anyone see the “Frostbitten Toolbox” drop this Wintersday? I really like those gathering tools and wondering what happened to them and why would they be removed? And, if they gave us advanced warning I would have opened the gifts I had in stock before the Wintersday patch hit.

If I’m mistaken and they do drop, my bad. If they were removed, someone at Anet is trying to out due the Grinch this year.

Pretty sure I got one…but just one so far.

I got 1 for sure, but hopefully the drop rate was reduced.
Last year I only opened the boxes required for the dailies, the rest I sold, but still I got so many tools that I still have some in my bank.

Last year they were also a purchase from a vendor. You gave him your ugly wool clothing for them. This year the vendor sell individual tools for a few silver and some snowflakes, but not the box.

I never got one as a drop.

They are available for purchase from the event vendor in Divinity Reach.

Pretty sure they were a drop last year. I have lots and lots in the bank, and I certainly didn’t buy any.

They were basically the only reward worth getting last year.
I have stacks too. Now we pay out for more.
I might be able to last till next year. If I do, they won’t return, so…

I was hoping to restock my tool supply this year as I’m starting to run out of them, but looks like I’m not going to. Guess they were too convenient things to have around.

Bummer, I was surprised my tools from last year lasted this long, and looking forward to restocking. But it’s not like gathering tools are expensive. It was just nice to always have another on me.

They weren’t a drop last year they came from opening wintersday gifts or buying them for ugly wool clothes.
And they were the best thing from last year’s wintersday. I bugged my buddy who just started to play (“but I don’t need them?!” oh the naivity) to get at least a stack of them (gifted him a stack of woolen sweaters – I was dead serious!!).
I knew they would be gone this wintersday. And I hope they will remain as they are until there’s none in game anymore.

ETA: The reason why nothing is better than these: You can equip them to level 15 characters. So my lvl 18 warrior who watches my home nodes for now 2 years while carrying my worthiest possessions (aka: mule) can farm snow truffles and elder wood (don’t have more nodes yet). And I don’t have to watch the gathering tools on my characters (usually sometimes I’m cheap and get copper if they’re doing map completion of the starter zones).

You can buy them from a central vendor in DivRe. I forget if they’re karma, cash, or both.

The Frostbitten Boxes no longer drop from Wintersday Gifts and neither type of box is available from a vendor. The tools themselves are available from a vendor for 5,000 karma + 3s 4c. Since ori tools are only 4s or 350 karma, this is a terrible deal. It’s only worth buying if you have sub-80 character who mine high-tier mats, e.g. orichalcum in your home instance.

The only source of boxes I’ve found this year are from the Dusty Boxes of Clothes that are rare drops from the gifts. My average is about 1 such box per 1,000 gifts, so I’m not holding my breath that I will see more

i have over 20 stacks of these tools left over from last year, but i found the wday gifts far more rewarding last year tbh.

I got one drop of them so far. But then I still have a crap ton of them from last year taking up space.

Noooooo. I guess I’ll just wait until next wintersday to see if they return?

I don’t even use them because they are ori tools and so too valuable to use, and I don’t gather ori, and I wanted them to gather correct tier snowflakes anyway…

I just opened some black lion chests. Each one includes a wintersday gift as well as the usual 3 random items.

Interestingly they have proved to contain last year’s loot table. I’ve only opened 3 so far (inventory space, arrgh) and here’s what was in them. The far right gift is an Unsafe one.

The wintersday harvesting tools are kinda bugged and I think they want to phase them out considering a level 10 toon can harvest level 80 materials with them (Flax Seeds).

Come to think of it, I think that’s where I got the one I received too
