Frustrated!
TP flipping is the best way to make money in game. Good TP flippers talk about having multiple legendaries and deciding if they can be bothered to make another.
I sit on 10K+ AP with about 3000hrs played and no legendary. That’s fine as it was a conscious choice given precursors are issued through blind luck, grinding or TP flipping, none of which seems particularly ‘legenadry’.
In any event I am awaiting on crafting a precursor. While that doesn’t seem particularly legendary either, at least it’s directly related to playing a direct aspect of the game. Not reduced to being an expert of niche elements like TP flipping.
WvW and PvP will net you nothing and PvE adventuring will fail you (grinding works though).
Players should be encouraged to go off and have adventures. Not have toons idle in LA while you shift through spreadsheets.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
Yep, I’m the same way. Just got done throwing all of my gold into the mystic forge. As predicted….nothing…but at least I had fun proving my point. No different than a casino. I prefer games where the payout is based on effort and time and not an extremely low-odds house-run casino.
If the only thing in this game to you is a legendary weapon…probably time for you to move on. The legendary weapon was always meant to be a long term goal. You’re supposed to be able to have fun doing other stuff and eventually get it.
If you can’t do that, then it might very well be the wrong game for you. On the other hand, some of us are having a ball.
Do FOTM!
I’ve got 3 members in my guild who says they got Dusk dropped from Mossman in FOTM38, The Hunter from Bloomhunger from FOTM36 and The Legend from Ettin in FOTM48.

In other words, a grind. How many people really have enough agony resist to go that high? Most people dont even want to cooperate in a party and cause failures.
If you think the only reason to play the game is to be rewarded with special items then yes it’s probably time to quit. In fact I’d say this game probably wasn’t for you from the start.
It seems to me that the people who have the most fun with this game are the ones who don’t care about the rewards or how fast they get them. They play for the sake of experiencing the content and if they get good rewards then it’s a bonus.

Quite a lot >_<
I mean, it’s not as bad as you think.
Seen quite a lot of lf1m, lf2m, lf3m, lf4m for FOTM 48 runs in gw2lfg.
All you need is 45AR if you don’t own a legendary.
There are those who does and they can go up to 55AR making PR48 worthless.
As for pugs, I do have to say that you generally get bad pugs UNTIL pr40.
(Then again, it’s just personal experience). There are also some FOTM guild that you can join full of experienced ppl to help you out in the runs.
As for runs, you just need
- 30AR min to run FOTM30-39
- 40AR min to run FOTM40-49
With the 2 ascended infused rings alone with versatile agony infusions you’ve already obtained 20AR. Amulet for 20 laurels + 250 wvw tokens + versatile agony infusion makes up a total of 25AR. Infused back item+ versatile agony infusion makes up a total of 35AR.
As for grind……………….. Yeah GRIND! Unless what you want is to obtain the BEST end-game item just by killing ambient creature, then I can’t give you anymore solution -_-. I think this game’s all about grinding when it comes to acquiring best item >_<.
Then again, its just an alternative….. to grinding jormag for the 1000000000000th time and get blues/greens instead of exotics (let alone a precursor)

I really have a hard time understanding why anyone plays this game for the sake of the pixel-trakitten
’s all completely worthless you know.
If you get no fun out of killing the fake monsters and don’t dare to try your skill against others in PvP there’s nothing left.
I want to respond to Vayne since he/she is getting at something. I DO want to enjoy the process. In fact, half the time I’m a solo role-player…have had several incarnations…all undead servants of Grenth usually in human necro form (but the pale skin is a dead give-away)…that and the characters tendency to spend a good amount of time kneeling at the statue in Divinity’s Reach.
The problem is that the current state of Anet tries to pull me away from that. Before I even pick a character, I’m looking at some stupid achievement status. Didn’t I do all of that in wow? So, I try to make the best of events but what happens? They turn into loot pinata zerg-fests. And has definitely been the case for the last two events. So, I’m like, "ok…I give up…I’ll be sure to meet my dailies quota and grind my achievements (just like in wow) because this content is going away forever (unlike in wow), and I’m probably going to have to quit my job if I want a meta-achievement title. Ok, that’s not possible. What realistically CAN I work toward? Ah, the stupid legendary that is really just a skin with a slight stat bonus not high enough to brag about. But then I find out that I can’t actually grind this out because of their DR system. So, then I’m like, “Ok, Anet, what is that you WANT me to do? Because I’m not dropping $1,500 in your cash shop! And if you lied about that not being a requirement, then please just admit it because I’ll respect that greed that changed your business model.” So….I don’t know…I’m messing with another level 1 solo rp necro but I know that this game is programmed somehow to veer me away from just enjoying content. In other words, I’m trying to do what you suggest, and I seriously don’t think the company profits from that even if they initially promoted the idea. So, I’m basically fighting the company in a war of “I’m going to have fun because you said I could that, and I’ve spent a good $200 already. I’ve already spent more than on wow’s subscription model, and I’m done with that at least until a day where I feel the rewards are worth the thank-you…which, again, is what the original business model was about…thanking by paying for frills”
Find a guild with like minded players, then, and play your way. Because you can. That’s what a lot of people in my guild do. Not all of them are around enough to get all the achievements, but we still have fun hanging out and doing stuff.
And we help people get achievements, because it’s more fun to play with people than alone.
If you fail to see the way this game unfolds, better go back to WoW. Carrot on a stick seems to be your way of doing things.

Fotm is th best way to remain poor.
I have got past 400 pristine fractal 0 precursor drop SEEN paired with terrible rewards.
Play fotm for skins (i have almost every fotm skin by now) and for fun, but not for any other reason.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Really have you even tried, because a couple ascended trinkets and then you can get the +5 infusion for what 75 FoTM tokens? Really is your response for not getting something the moment you log in a “grind”. Useless kitten words.
What realistically CAN I work toward?
Do you actually enjoy role-playing games?
This game is a variation of a typical rpg concept, which you play to experience a world through the use of an avatar. You travel through the world and face challenges, and sometimes obtain rare loot.
You don’t play this type of game to “make a legendary”. You can open Photoshop, and make a legendary in there without any delay.
So once again, do you like the experience of controlling a character in a virtual world such as this one?

Which is it, Vayne? First you tell him that if he wants to play his way, the game isn’t for him, then you tell him to play his own way.
well, if even i is still playing then no, its not time to quit yet. Im giving them time until ps4 comes out, if nothing changes and all they add is festivals/LS im out.

My second response was to his comments about not being able to play his way. My first response was to the idea that having something was the entire game. All responses are relative.
If someone were trying to play baseball and they told me they hated the game because they couldn’t .bat 350, I’d tell them there’s more to baseball than just a high batting average.
If someone tells me they’re not enjoying GW 2 because they can’t get a single item, I tell them they’re ignoring the rest of the game. The item isn’t the game. The game is the game. The item is something you get for playing it.
However, he responded to me, and I responded back to him. It’s called a conversation. If you take away the context, of course it sounds wrong.
@OP: Only you can decide this. If getting a precursor really motivates your gameplay, and if that process creates an experience that isnt fun, then quit. I myself gave up my quest for a precursor/legendary a few months ago..I came back and really enjoyed the game up until Queens Jub and invasions. While they added some good combat and gauntlet fights, instead of the run of the mill pixie dust LS events, the game quickly morphed into "Zerg until your eyes bleed…this activity is a precursor to Ascended Weapons to which youll need a lot of money and time to grind. " I see where the game is headed and at the current moment I cannot and will not support it. In the last two weeks Ive logged in for a total of 5 or 10 minutes to look around.
Im having more fun in Defiance and casually playing Neverwinter. Thought of rebooting a wow sub if I get bored of defiance, but thats extreme.
Basically what I’m reading is that you want the end-game rewards without the appropriate effort or time.
They are highly valued for a reason. If you refuse to value them with your time then you don’t deserve it.

I don’t say do FOTM to be rich >_<.
It is true, FOTM don’t give you much gold rewards.
I’m just saying that there are other methods of getting the best in-game items rather then buy them with gold. FOTM isn’t a way to MAKE money. It’s more like a way to SAVE money. So many blues/green to salvage so that you can get more luck.
Like, instead of getting ascended rings with laurels, you buy them with tokens or get them for free. Also not to mention with the ascended weapons, by doing FOTM you have a chance of getting ascended weapons for free. [I have the boxes which I have yet to choose the weapon from. If you PM me in-game, I can ‘ping’ them to you]
Then again, of course it all comes down to rng luck >_<.
If your drop luck sucks and you just wanna ‘buy’ precursor, then yeah I wouldnt recommend FOTM. Might as well just farm scarlet’s world event thingy and get lotsa loots and sell ’em all. In the past I would say farm cof p1 to get money but since they nerfed that….. oh well…..

Here’s my take on this….
If the game is all about the shinies for you (and it is for some people, I accept that), and you just aren’t feeling the rewards, then perhaps you need a break. Sure, we could tell you to go do invasions, to do the world bosses, to jump on the champ trains. Those will all give the shinies, and probably decent chunks of gold depending on you dedication, but you could be bored with it, rng could simply hate you, or its just not your thing.
On the other hand, if its not ‘just’ about the loot, and you just need to reorient and ‘find’ yourself, then perhaps taking a step back, a deep breath, and assessing what you’re looking for in a game might help you decide. Look at the things you typically like in a game, then look at what GW2 offers. Determine what you’d like to be doing with your time, and then kitten how that coincides with GW2’s options. You said you like to role play, have you tried joining a role play guild, for example?
There are a lot of options out there for things to do; however, not all things are for all people. Some people enjoy just repeatedly running dungeons, others like to explore every nook and cranny of the open world, others like to farm relentlessly. None of it is wrong, but only you can decide what you like and what you want to do. You need to find something to motivate you to play, and enjoy that play. External motivation, which is what you’re asking for, is the worst kind because it really has no meaning for you, because someone else made the decision.
RE: Time to Quit?
Yes.
Only you can decide if it’s time to quit.
The biggest issue I see in threads like this is that “I’m unhappy because I can’t get ____________.” If the reward is unsatisfying to you, and you aren’t happy just playing, then I think you’ve answered your own question.
If you truly do like the game, then just play. Don’t worry about working toward something you feel is unreachable, and don’t fret about not getting (X) gold per hour. There is a lot to do in the game. Just because someone else is farming, or running dungeons, or grinding gear doesn’t mean you have to. Unless you’re a WvW expert, the added stats aren’t going to make that much of a difference in what you do.
Quit if you want.
“I find this game extremely unrewarding. I can handle punishing because practice and skill can usually overcome that. But where are the rewards?”
Each minute I spend in this game is a reward to me, I personally just enjoy playing it, I pretty much enjoyed most of those ~1k hours I spent in gw2. I don’t care about grinding/whatever, I reached level 48 of fractals, because I genuinely enjoy running fractals, not because I wanted skins/rings/backpack, those things came by themselves. I’ll continue to play it and sooner or later, precursor and then legendary will come too, but I ain’t gonna spend any extra hours doing something I don’t necessarily like to get it, you shouldn’t too.
Thanks for the suggestions. I stayed up all night enjoying a rage-quit (mostly because I’ve never felt that urge in any game). It brought me satisfaction, especially to hear that I was not alone in my reasons.
Then, I enjoyed the process of deleting and selling so that I could convert it all into a huge buffet of multiple sets of feasts for everyone in Lion’s Arches. Everyone enjoyed the vast selection of Tyria’s finest. I have little grudge against the game, itself….
but I will never support or recommend anything from this company again. People can handwave that. I’ve seen it before, and I’ve seen the long-term effect of “meh…let them eat cake…let’s just milk this”. And if it doesn’t matter, at least I will have my dignity in check by not supporting this glorified casino.
Best wishes to all of you. This game does have one of the better communities in the mmo industry. Good night.
