I am trying to form a guild and get my friends to play the game. What sold me on the game was the fact that we can group without having to race to cap level. With dynamic level scaling for zones I can go back to old zones and get XP while playing with new friends entering the game.

After getting a number of people into the game and the guild apparently my server capped. None of my additional friends can create characters on my server so I can’t group with them. I though at first it wasn’t an issue because the game has cross server missions and dungeons. Now I find out that only works if the characters can start from an overflow, and no zones on my server create overflows and haven’t for a while. So I am pretty much screwed. It seems like my only option is to try to get my entire guild to pay to swap to another server?

The frustrating thing is my friends created characters on other servers to, you know, try the game they just purchased. I can’t make alt characters on their servers to play with them? All my characters are locked to one server?

Even worse, we can’t do storylines or dungeons together outside of the shards because of this stupid restriction that we all have to be in an overflow together to enter the dungeons. There aren’t any overflows on my supposedly full server except Lion’s Arch. We can’t do low level story dungeons, we can’t group to clear zones, and we can do story missions together that fall outside Lion’s Arch.

Seriously?

I wouldn’t mind if my server was, you know, actually full. But there’s no one on the server. The zones are pretty much empty with no overflows anywhere but Lion’s Arch.

Why is this game set up this way? I am now unable to create and maintain a guild and my options are to try to get everyone who joined to pay for a server transfer which will us away from our alternate guilds which friends or, what, go play WoW?

I don’t think a server transfer costs any money, though it will cost you your guild influence and yes, make it harder to group up with alternate guilds. I’ve never heard of it costing dollars or gold. Well maybe you have to pay some game money to remake the guild on the new server? But your guild members won’t be out any money.

Swapping to a new server is free every 7 days. Also yes, the way Anet did the servers appears to be a very dumb way. Instead of showing servers by how full they are (actual people playing) they show how full they are by accounts associated with the server. Which when no one is using those accounts the server might as well say empty.

Hi…well you can try to have everyone switch to one server the best time is late at night or very early in the morning 1-2am ( from my expereince ) changing severs is still currently free so thats not a problem just whisper/mail your friends on what sever to check for an opening on and wait for them to arrive it might take a few days but they will come if they really want to group with you……A-Net bans bots pretty reguler so open spots open up all the time…..hope this helps you

Pretty sure that’s not true. Very few servers are full during my evenings (Oceanic primetime). And I have had a bunch of people move to Blackgate (my server, one of the more popular ones) since launch, they just had to wait till the early hours of the morning to get in.

My homeworld is Blackgate.

Well I have a very hard time believing the server I came from had a high population. There would be maybe a hand full of people in Lions Arch. 0 people in almost every map. It was getting to the point where I would see more bots than players. Maybe it doesn’t work the way I think it does but whatever method there using isn’t accurate.

Bots count towards online active population. So does WvW. There are so many ways that people could be hiding from you.
