When I play I stop to explain. Unfortunatly, you’re encountering a symptom of the game’s development. Since everything has been locked behind time gating or in the gem shop, the only thing of value is getting more gold for your time. Taking time to explain anything is seen as a “waste” of time by some, and they’re rude as kitten about it.
I will say, not everyone is like that, and finding a worthwhile guild helps. Add the friendly folks to your friend list, and ask them. Ignore the wastes of skin who won’t explain what’s going on and “gogogogogo!” about everything.
Welcome to Tyria, and happy gaming!

This (sort of I don’t actually know most of these guilds).
Joining a good guild can really turn things around.
Thanks guys, and I’ll check out the dungeon mentors. =)
Make a LFG posting about doing casual runs.
You are joining players who wish to speed run or complete content.
That doesn’t mean they are bad people. Different strokes for different folks.
A former guildmate of mine once told me in one of the arah paths that “trash mobs don’t need explaining” …she was referring to deadeyes and other silver mobs that did in fact need explaining. Ever since then, I make sure that anyone on my team who has never done the event/fractal/dungeon/etc. gets a good explanation. No one deserves to be left in the dark about what’s going on.
PM me in game if you ever need help with something.
That doesn’t mean they are bad people.
I strongly disagree. It’s perfectly fine to play the game the way you want to. It’s another thing altogether to be rude, callous and mean-spirited to other players if they don’t share your world view.
The word “bad” doesn’t even come close to the correct adjective to describe these folks.

It’s just a non rep guild of dungeon forum regulars who are willing to help new people or even experienced people. We have mentors from [Dnt] [rT] [LOD] [IX], all high end speed running guilds whom are very knowledgeable on mechanics, we have non-speed runners too. But we will all take the time to make sure the student understands each encounter.
When I post a LFG for a dungeon, I always specifically put “No elitist kitten bags.” at the end. Group usually fills pretty fast lol.
I will definitely have to be on the lookout for these.
I feel for you. I don’t get the elitist attitude either. Just spending a few minutes to teach a new player how to run a dungeon will significantly increase the chances of beating that dungeon. It’ll also mean that’s one more person in the pug circuit that knows what they’re doing. One that can potentially teach others too, as soon as they get good at it.

If you join a party that is tailored for speed runs and you refuse to take part in that, then you deserve a kick for wasting everyone’s time and being selfish.

The groups I’ve joined don’t specify all the time, which brought me here to the forums to have a discussion. Some players would ignore set message, but I don’t like wasting peoples time.

What server do you play on?
I’m on JQ. Toons name is Délaina :d
Whilst it’s not a positive outlook, I’d never expect to receive explanation or patience in a pug… in any game. Sure it’s possible those things may happen, but it seems to be a rarity. That’s why I always try to find a guild in any game. It makes for nicer experiences on the whole.

If you join a group that specifically advertised it was looking for uber players and/or speed runs that’s one thing. That’s not what the OP is talking about here.

The issue here is that not all such parties are advertised as such. While it is true that there is nothing wrong with desiring to run with like minded individuals, such things should be clearly labeled. I don’t know how many times I have joined a story run where they desired 80s only, but didn’t say so in the listing. Where I joined an all zerker sc, that wasn’t labeled as such. All their descriptions said were ‘Story’ or ‘P2’ or whatever. It is not my fault they they did not specify, and they have no right to be kittens about it. Honestly, a simple ‘sorry, we’re actually looking to speed clear, blah blah’ goes soooo much further than ‘omfg uninstall you kitten . you arent zerk, ur such a kittening noob.’ A person is going to react much more positively to the former. The people that spout off the latter…well, I have some very vivd ‘should be’ options that would probably terrify a lot of people.
To the OP:
You are right, you should never ever have to apologize for not being here at launch. No one should treat you poorly because you haven’t been here every minute of every day, and unfortunately there are a lot intolerant rotten apples in this game. I don’t necessarily think any more so than any other game, but in certain instances (like dungeons) they do seem more prevalent.

Fair, but I think the issue would then be on the player’s personality themselves, rather than a subset group of players who like to play a game a certain way.
I appreciate the replies everyone made and thank you for them! Ya’ll were helpful and maybe in a months time I’ll put it all together.
Online gamers, the gift that keeps on giving.
I once tried to teach a newb.
He was a signet warrior who kept dying on a trash run. I told him to switch skills and weapond for all encounters, running, bosses, or trash.
He told me that it wasn’t that important, he wasn’t trying to be a pro, we should just do the dungeon properly (when he joined my teaching group), and promptly ragequit after dying twice.
Many of us have learned that some people, or mindsets, simply don’t want to be told how to play because ANet already told them they could play how they want. The players who want to invest in themselves will find the proper avenues to do so if they’re truly invested. OP is on the right track; check out the dungeon forums, YouTube videos, gw2dungeons.com, Guru, a mentoring guild etc.

Best advice I can give is…
join a friendly guild that runs dungeons
research the dungeons before heading in via the wiki
create your own group with the LFG tool, advertising the truth of your situation
never join a speed clear or pro group in LFG

It would be much better if you could A: res in dungeons and B: play them solo.

I agree with looking up strategies, but with every group a person joins there are people who handle mechanics differently which is why I ask for help and do in every group I join if set note doesn’t exclude my current skill sets, which is where I disagree with you.
You cannot help someone that doesn’t want help, so I don’t think anyone should be expected to help a player that doesn’t openly ask for it, but it also doesn’t mean the experienced can’t pinpoint a problem and give advice so the new guy doesn’t keep dying.
Meet a person halfway, but if they don’t make the same effort, then by all means, remove them from group to progress. I see no reason a person should expect to be carried whether they take the game seriously or not because this is an MMO and it takes a team to win and progress.
