The server every friend I have playing this game is full. Am I really just completely out of luck as far as starting a character there since its “full” on the server list? I’m hoping not since it is pretty disappointing to drop 60 dollars, go to log in and start a character and get sentenced to a server where I cannot play with my friends.

You can still create a character there. Youll just be placed on the overflow server until theres a spot on the normal server for you.

The overflow server is a copy of the normal server, think of it as a queue where you can play the game and still progress your character.

In other MMO’s you would be stuck at the login screen with a queue timer. In this game, you can still go straight into the game and play until theres a spot on your home server.

Full means really full, not temporary full. Pick a server that is not full and your friends can transfer to you.

An entire guild of friends (like 20+ including their spouses) won’t be transferring to me on another server, that is not even a remotely realistic idea.

Renedadeimp, when I try to click on the server it doesn’t allow me. It just greys out the “select” button, so it seems I’m out of luck, which is grossly disappointing. I guess I’ll just have to try to get a refund, instead. Thanks for your response, though.

I found that when it says full, it is not permnantly full, just wait until that server’s time zone is around 2-3am and you should be able to get on and make it your home for playing during normal times.

I tried to join a friend on his server but it was full so i joined blacktide and he joined me, later that night his original server was back to high population and we could transfer, only we decided to stay on blacktide as the majority there speak English.

In that case: good luck with your refund, also I doubt you’ll get one.

IIRC there was a statement that it is permanent, and that’s also the only way that would make sense. The mechanic you describe is probably just a bug which should be fixed or it has something to do with when account transfers are resolved.

nope i’m sure of it, the worlds’ population are changing every single minute
i always transfer to a more deserted world when i need to farm in cursed shore (less people = more gold), so i can see it changing
you may try it yourself, watch the worlds’ population once every hour or so
perhaps it’s because people are still transferring between worlds

i hope Anet close the free transfer soon though
it’s highly exploitable

World populations certainly do change, last night around 4am only two European servers were full, 6pm that day 4 were full.

Once you have created a character, is there a way to go see the list of servers and their statuses and relative volume again?

Edit: sigh Never mind, I see it, just never went looking. Guess that makes me two-for-two in the last two days.

yes, of course
at character selection screen, choose world selection at bottom left corner

It does not seem to be permanent. I have managed to get on a “full” server by transferring there early in the morning, when it was at “high” population for a short time.

Also keep in mind that they do occasionally expand the servers to hold more players (so that could also explain how some people manage to get into a full server).
