Future Professions
Only that they have no plans for releasing any, in the forseeable future.
This youtube vid should answer your question.
They are currently focusing on improving on current contents, in other words, this game isn’t ready for new content until then.
If they ever decide to add a future profession I really hope it would be someone with a heavy armor, since we already have 3 professions for each kind of armor, except for heavy, and I don’t really like having only choice between guardian and warrior.
i personally dont think we should get more professions makes it harder to skill balance. i think thats why gw1 got so way out of whack. if they add anything make it new races and new starter areas
I think we’re fine with these races, so far. GW was hard to balance due to dual profession system I think. As for the new professions, we could see them in a year or so. No need to rush, we still need more tweaking and content.
The thing is, why would we need more professions?
Ritualist? We have many summoners already.
Paragon? They were useless in GW1, why should be different in GW2?
Another heavy? For what? More zerkers?

They cant even properly balance the current professions, what gives you the idea they are ready for one more?
I agree that more professions aren’t needed atm. Races, i don’t mind (as it don’t interfere with balancing issues).
I want a playable dragon.
The current metagame is pretty much stale and boring from the beginning. If new classes are what would shake it up, so be it, but the long promised overhaul of those completely useless skills and traits would serve just as well.
I have kinda lost hope on that one though, they acknowledged on several occasions that they see the problem, but haven’t acted on it at all, for months now, so I doubt that will ever change.
I want my dervish class back :’(
third heavy armor option anet?
or maybe just the scythe 2h weapon…
The only thing we don’t have from ritualists are the ashes, bundles weapons that prevented you from attacking, and spirit weapons, which with the removal of enchantments, i’m not too sure how/if they could come back.
And the people saying paragons were useless in gw1 either weren’t good at build synergy or they’re just a sheep who agrees with whoever. That being said, not sure how paragons could return and stay unique, as leadership doesn’t make too much sense in a non-instanced game.
And third, anets never been too good at balancing things, so yeah, if a new profession would help shake up the meta, I’m all for it.
EDIT: with the balance thing, they’ve always made it manageable, but not necessarily fair, but always fun.

Tengu armored ritualists bringing awesomness back to Tyria.
I’d like the concept of heavily armored combat ritualist with spears/x/javelins, four ghosts as mechanics, enchanting their weapons like in the first game. And them being Tengu with possibly some Aztec feeling on top of it.
Feels warm down there!

I honest to God hope we will get the Sandwichmancher.
It would be such a cool concept. If you’ve played WoW after Cataclysm, think of the Cookie fight in Deadmines.

That was a cool class. I played that in Vanilla WoW.
Anybody see what I did there?
Anet still can’t handle the classes they have and you guys want more? Good lord…

No game with multiple classes are ever balanced.
That’s like saying, " let’s wait until Elephants become green colored and can fly before adding them to our zoo"
Well you will be waiting forever because it’s not happening.
Developers can’t make the game balanced because they would have to get rid of the classes uniqueness which would destroy the game’s replay value.
Adding new classes is better. Developers can be dynamic with balance and adjust as time goes on, rather than seeking 100% balance which is impossible..

Exactly, even GW1 is still not fully balanced, and it never will be.

Um, since when can a zoo not handle elephants? Your analogy only makes sense if the zoo already has trouble housing and feeding the animals it has and chooses to get more; a choice that is very stupid indeed.
There’s also a big difference between accepting that perfect balance is unattainable and throwing your hands in the air and just not bothering at all.
Being one of the many who watched Anet shoot their own feet off in GW1, I’d reeeeeaaaaaallllllyyyy rather not watch it happen all over again.
And finally, a game can be relatively balanced and still have plenty of class diversity. It’s called having roles. Anet is so hung up on “no class roles” that the classes we have constantly step on each others’ toes. It’s compounded by the fact that only 5/8 classes can ever be in a group.

Actually, you bring up an extremely good point. Tengu being isolated for so long would still have ritualists and practice. And there still is something ritualists could bring to the table that would be unique. Debuff spirits, ashes(bundles), and spirit weapons in some form. So I have to commend you greatly.
This thread is over a year old..

I generally think the ashes are essentially replaced by weapon kits. Mechanically, while ashes prevented you from auto-attacking, the auto-attack in GW1 was rarely a major part of your damage output for a ritualist (you could make builds where it was, but you wouldn’t use ashes with them…). The ashes (apart from the ones that are simply bombs) generally served to allow a limited amount of changing of focus in an instance (giving up autoattack for the benefits of the kit), and kits do something similar now.
The closest thing to weapon spells are probably elementalist conjures. I was expecting engineers to have more of that sort of stuff as well, but the only one they had in the end was the mortar which, well… Supply Drop > all.
Debuff spirits… hrrrmn. Engineers have the net turret and activated abilities on most turrets. You could possibly still get something out of it, but you’d need more to distinguish them from the engineer to make a profession, I think.
On paragons, I’d agree – they’re awesome, but I don’t think they can be made distinct in GW2. They were essentially a specialised ranged support shout warrior to begin with – there are a few ways to reproduce that in GW2.

They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
