Guild Wars 2

So with Heart of Thorns releasing in October and all the hype surrounding it and the game I can’t help but think forward to a few years when the next expansion is announced. What do you think the next expansion will be. For me there are a few distinct possibilities. I will list them in order of which I think are most likely with the reason why they are there below.

1. Flame Legion (possibility of Primordius)
2. Bob The Sea Dragon
3. Jormag
4. Human Gods
5. Kralkatorrik
6. A NEW ELDER DRAGON

Flame Legion: this idea I have the most feel towards as heart of thorns is centered around Mordremoth and the Sylvari and so I feel like people might want a break from the dragons and so flame legion and some more charr flavour might be a welcomed change.(yes I know I mentioned Primordius I’m getting to it) so Primordius. It is a well known fact that the flame legion worshipped the minions of Abbadon but the other legions killed the minions and so I think that there could be a cool story arc with the Flame Legion searching for a new God /Deity and they find minions of Primordius (or Primordius himself) and start to worship them (we have all seen the power of Elder Dragons and the power that their minions are given) and the expansion could revolve around the awakening of Primordius and there could be a cool raid on the Flame Legion base and end up in the death of the Flame Legion leader (this is still friendly to the charr zones where the flame legion appear as they could be pockets of the Flame Legion around and you are finishing them off or they haven’t yet heard of their leaders fall) and the Primordius expansion could also talk about the Asura and we could visit their original city (that would be cool and maybe just maybe we could see some of the original Asura or even a couple of dwarves if Anet is up to it).

Bob The Sea Dragon: this I feel will happen sooner rather then later for a multiple of reasons. One and most compelling of them is the art unearthed with the three dragon heads (not going to say hydra but a good chance) attacking lion arch. This could be the expansion where we eventually get the spear as a land weapon or even a trident (I think the trident is less likely but still a cool idea). This is also the expansion where we get playable Tengu….haha no this will where we have the highest chance of getting Largos (as this is water themed this will be the one chance of getting Largos as we will not be getting it when any other dragon awakes) and as I understand Largos are wanted to be playable be quite a number of people. This I feel would be a amazing opportunity for Anet to truely prove itself to the Video Game community as to my knowledge there has not been any game with great underwater combat (not saying that Gw2 does but this would encourage them to revamp it or just need touch it up and add flavour to it).

Jormag: This would be a interesting expansion with us exploring the northern reaches and getting to go and see the Norns home lands and reclaim them whilst fighting back Jormag and his minions though I am reluctant to say this as I find it a very long shot but if ever this will be where Koda are introduced into the game (so far [to my knowledge] there has been nothing at all about Jormag so far) but as it will focus on one of the main races which I think will also be healthy as to my understanding Norn are one of the the least popular race and so a while expansion based on them I feel would encourage people to roll a Norn just to get fully engaged in the story line.

The Human Gods: just like Jormag the reason that this is on the list is that is focus on a main race (the reason that Jormag is higher is that A. He is an elder dragon and B. It focus on a less popular race and so Anet might want to encourage people to roll a less popular race) but this I feel could be really fun and there is almost unlimited possibilities when it comes to where the expansion is based (I would like to see us go to the domain of each God as something is wrong for example they are being corrupted or they have changed and now see Tyria (or our version of Tyria) as a threat to other realities or other planets (as there is evidence supporting that these exist [some of the human creation myths]) and so we need to go about saving our home from these beings who have been working to save us all these years or we could go to different planets as the gods have been gathering other worlds and getting them to help them in their effort to destroy us.

Kralkatorrik: this one jumped out at me only recently and all you lore buffs will be reading this and say “wait didn’t Kralkatorrik only recently awake” and the answer is yes he did (glints death) but A. The players weren’t there but the most compelling point is that B. this would throw all theories about cycles out and instill fear into all of the characters and if the story if told well could instill the fear in all the players as you could feel so small and insignificant (another thing is that the dragons could grow stronger each time they rise [not dissimilar to doomsday, every time he is killed he is born again and can not be killed by the same person{or method. Please correct me if I’m wrong} that killed him before or ever for that matter]) and would be a great twist to the game that would be very interesting and have many split views in the lore community(thus creating discussion and hype for the expansion) but I find this less likely as Anet have a structure and they would want to stick to it.

A NEW DRAGON!!!: this thought would be amazing. It is a shot off impossible for a few reasons. Firstly Anet have the dragons and they have poised them and positioned them as the franchises main antagonist and have had most of the Elder dragon. Do something abhorrent for example Zhaitan messing up Orr or Primordius chasing the Asura out of the earth and secondly as no one would have anything to do with the dragon this would be harder to do but potentially very rewarding as if pulled off would have the fan base ecstatic as to the release as a brand new dragon and the main part of the expansion would be finding out what this force is and then finally when the dragon rises either dealing with it or finding out that it was a good dragon that had been in slumber or in captivity(captivity would be better) of the other elder dragons as this one would have seen the value of live tried to protect it and thus led to its capture by the other dragons who were power hungry(this would also be a good opportunity to explain the elder dragons and how they came to be and their back story.

@inculpateus yes I did but I recently took it down from the HoT forum as I feel that it would be better off in the Gw2 discussion section as it has more to do with the game rather than HoT

Hm, I don’t really think a new dragon to be that possible. It would seriously mess up the current setup, like all the scripts talking of 6 dragons, and the vision in LS2.

As for who’s next, I’d go with Kralka. Just because we currently have the egg (or more precisely we don’t). I can see this going two ways, dragonet hatches and we try to get it back to Glint’s home in the crystal desert or maybe take revenge for Glint’s death.
All speculation though

Yes I too do not feel like a new dragon would be that likely but as I thought it was a cool idea I decided to add it in but yes thanks for bringing up Glint’s egg I forgot about that but as you mentioned it I shall not add it to the post and yes I too would like to see what they do with Kralkatorrik and the character development with the Logan and co. (Assuming that they all survive this expansion) :o

Who is Primordius?

Honestly I’d rather see a Cantha expansion

My guess is that future expansions will be based off of the remaining dragons and areas of Tyria that are currently locked.

Some of the non-dragon lore might be not expansions but updates within those expansions. However the overall theme will most likely follow the dragons.

Jormag is the easiest for them to do since it is already very well set up in lore and story. It’s also established in location which makes it easier to expand that whole Northern SHiverpeaks area.

Bubbles I don’t think we’ll ever see due to the location. I suspect it will be one of those distant threats, where we’ll encounter the minions, but not the full draconic power.

Primordus is a difficult one. A whole underground zone on paper doesn’t sound too exciting, but with spelunking masteries and a whole “Doug McClure Journey to the Centre of the Earth” mindset, we could see a vast undergound world to explore.

Kralkatorrik. Seems like the next logical step, but the Desert wont provide enough for an expansion. That leads me to believe he could well be in Elona. And setting up Elona and Kralkatorrik together will be a long way off (but extremely exciting).

I think we can rule Cantha out. I hope not – it would be stunning under the GW2 engine, but I feel confident in saying it isn’t on the cards.

Thanks for the response and you bring up many valid points. Cantha. Though it would be cool to see but I cant think of a story line (at this time) that includes Cantha or has a good reason to put it in the game besides fan service (not ruling this out it would just be good if there is a cool story with it[also yes I’m aware of the jade wind and all but nothing jumps out at me currently {could be as I just woke up}])
