G.W2 has such a nice community of players
Lovely to see that you’re having such a good time!
that’s nice .
I have to agree with you, the community is a lot nicer and very helpful if you compare it to that of other games. atleast in the PVE part… pvp i don’t know… competetive play modes often have a slightly more aggessive tone.
There’s a good, happy blissful and dark ugly side to everything. Just sayin’. Just don’t mind the other side much.
The community is mostly nice and friendly. There are certain cases that can bring out that dark ugly side but i found that saying “sorry, my bad” works wonders quite often. We can all be happy and hold hands and loot bad drops afterwards.
Yeah…sure really friendly in pve i haven’t seen a worse rage or flaming than, when some events fail, like people’s lives depend on a bag or a yellow item, in pve because it’s first time people do them, instead of someone being helpful to them. Guild wars 2 community sucks just like every other multiplayer game the only thing you can do is disable map chat and block whenere someone whispers you.
Guild Wars 2 is the best game. People are friendly, they even give you free gold randomly when you travel through game. Especially Lion’s Arch. Players in GW2 are also very skilled individuals always happy to help and improve your personal experience. Story is awesome, Living Story evewn better, expansion worth of content.

I completely DISAGREE with you. For the most part, the community is great (in PVE). I have no idea about PvP because I no longer play it.

It’s generally a good idea to inform yourself before doing something (not just in game but in everything). If someone is doing something for the first time, they should read up on it, ask in their guild, ask in their party, ask in map chat. If they don’t and then mess it up… Who was the sucky part of the community? The person who had not enough respect for others to get an idea of what to do or the others who all failed an event because of this?

People should help each other, we are not robots. Google is the tool, we are human beings. This game deserves the best community and it has the best community. We are all a family. You shouldn’t treat this game like a job.
Of course, notice how i wrote “ask in their guild, ask in their party, ask in map chat”. Nobody will flame them if they ask beforehand.
But noone should blame anyone for not reading/asking for guides. Learn by doing.
I disagree right there. In a massive open world event where the whole thing can fail because a single person is “learning it by doing” that one person can be prepared to take some heat.
Take everybody’s favorite Silverwastes for example (or tequatl, or triple trouble). Dozens of people are there to succeed at something and reap the rewards. Chances are they’ve been there for half an hour or more doing events to get to the breach. They are not there to fail. They will explain tactics before the fight and be helpful, but if you sit on a turret at tequatl and don’t use the 2nd skill, then people won’t pat you on the back.
By making an event fail you have basically made all their efforts null and void.
Todays fail is tomorrows win.
Learnng by doing is better for community and social experience than cold booded followin guides.
Today’s fail would never have happened if said person would have asked.
Asking about things you don’t know is not wrong and when people offer explanations, it builds the community even better than going in blind and failing.
Bottom line is, it’s way more beneficial for the community to succeed together and not fail because of one single person.
Not really. Success driven communty heads towards elitism. Time spent together on playing is much more valuble than virtual currency or any other reward.
THis is why GW2 is great. It has only skilled players but winning is not the goal. Fun always wins.
I believe you get what you give, in this game or in life. If you greet people with a smile and an open hand then yes occasionally people will take advantage but on the whole you will meet far more nice people.
If all you give is anger then that is what you will receive. When I read on here posts about how horrible and toxic the pve community is then I question why that person has such a vastly different experience than I do from the same community.
I’ve met lots of good people, I’ve been on both sides of random acts of generosity and I have also been flamed on. Usually the statement, ’not sure what I should be doing’ is enough to stop them and get them to help instead. If not then block and move on. Let the angry person be angry elsewhere.
TL;DR I like it here too.
Welcome to the Internet, exposing characters since the early 80’s.
To be fair Serenke, aside from the turret at Tequatl, there’s a very slim chance that one person can make an event fail. And people not way-pointing out of boss combat, thus scaling it up, is done just as much by ‘experienced’ players.
It’s that whole mentality you’re showing that has kept me from getting into Fractals over the last years. You can read and ask all you want, but in the end experience is still king.

The example that was brought talked about open world events, not instanced content. Thus everything i said was about open world encounters, not instanced content.
For instances you have quite a lot of options. If you are new to fractals, you can do it with guildies, open an lfg stating you are new, ask friends who do it regularly if they would like to take you along. That is a completely different beast.
True, but still the same mentality.
Besides, my personal experiences weren’t the essence of my point, but it matters not.

Exactly this!
Also, as far as open world events: If you’re doing something new, chances are there are some specific mechanics to the encounter. Simply asking in map chat, “I’m new here, is there anything I should know?” usually gets lots of replies and we can all go on our merry way. I also respect people who want to have that new experience, wide eyed with no spoilers.
Glad we are all enjoying this awesome game
Personally I find it pretty sad that there are games worse than this. This is the first game where I’ve seen such a large amount of people trying to force people to play the way they want instead of just taking a live and let live mentality.

If you are referring dungeon LFGs remember that those who join parties when not matching requested requirements are at fault. It works both for PHIW and Meta players.

Just a thought, if you are having this much trouble. maybe it’s you and not everyone else? The only time I see the ugly side of the GW2 player, is in PvP, but then that’s the same for any competitive multi player game. I’ve never see the people flaming each other in PvE. Maybe I’m just lucky.

The first day I played I did something stupid and died. When I went to teleport I got the ‘a noble soul is healing you’ message across my screen. It is probably the only time I have actually cried in a game (although helping the sylvari pups with that calming music was close).
It is why I hate pvp. While I do not mind competition I prefer to think of other players as potential allies, not opponents.

Except you aren’t always playing with the same people. Everyday you do teq, unless you are In one of the guilds that do this (if you were you’d be required to know the tactics) you’ll be with different people.
So everyday you could get a newbie on turrets that is “learning by doing” and fail over and over.
I have this problem in fractals all the time. People don’t ask and so they die a lot. They either quite or end up getting kicked. Usually I will explain fights if someone is dieing a lot and half the time that is taken well. The other half the time people don’t listen or get upset that I was explaining what they should be doing. Then after a couple wipes I’ll kick those people and really don’t feel any guilt for doing so.

Such behaviour may lead only to expanding unintended toxicity amongst fellow tyrians. This is bad. What we should do as a community is to help each other. Remember, journey is the goal! In addition I would like to mention, if you allow me, that when opening lfg to publicity you have no control who will join you, so it was your joice to accept any possible outcome of playing with random group. Only acting like human beings we can build better community, better Tyria.
@ Krzygum Well sort of. If a party can not progress because someone isn’t listening to advice then they get kicked. It’s not toxic. The person not working with the rest of the party to achieve a goal is more “toxic” at that point. As they are not engaging in community by talking and learning. So they get kicked.

I think every case is unique and we shouldn’t make general assumptions.
We can assume that communication means you are engaging in community with other players. By not communicating you aren’t engaging with the community.
Tho I see whatcha doin har.
