does this game have anything free soon? it seem to slowly turning into typical Limited free to play game… and why use feature patch name for these updates when they actually are pay to gem updates even dye options have gem notice is that what we paying next?? i bet upcoming events are pay to play too i respect areanet all those years but recently i am very disappointed you,, if you so much need fees please start selling expansions like orginal game instead of turning main game slowly big gem store

Funny, I haven’t bought gems in some time. There is nothing in the gem store that I need to be able to play the game. There’s cosmetics, and convenience. I couldn’t disagree with you more.

As much as I would like to support the game monetarily, I have not been in a position to do so.

Nevertheless, I have been able to get anything I want from the Gem Store by merely playing the game. I’m not sure what you are on about….

I think the OP might be referring to the point where the interface asks if you would like to spend a transmutations charge when dying armor ? Been a while since I changed my character’s armor so I may be remembering this incorrectly.

Still, the system does not actually charge you for dying your armor.

Yes, but its offered for free if you log in when its live. But if you can’t log in, its $2.50. Less then half what you probably pay for a cup of coffee. And its yours forever to replay on any of your characters.

Living world seasons are free if you just are alive and log in the game at least once every 2 weeks. It is not a big deal.

Honestly, I’m surprised that each chapter only costs 200 gems.

They are free for anyone who logs into the game for even one minute during the two week period when that LS episode is live. You don’t have to play it at that time, it is saved for you to play at your convenience.

Essentially its a little like television. You have a TV, you have a DVR, if you choose to not record a show for free during its first run you have the option to buy the DVD later. The difference is, I guess, that the DVR is built into the game. You do not need to buy any extra equipment to have the episode saved for you.

no – watching livingstory is NO CONTENT and trieing to sell this lil qol changes now as a feature patch is more than pathetic

And explain to me exactly why you think the entire game, sans the Living Story you missed due to not being here, requires gems. (Something, I might add, you would have completely missed a year ago and had zero chance at getting to enjoy.)

You may use small words if you think it would help get across why I can do the entire content outside LS2 without paying for any Gems. Not even for Black Lion Keys.

I think that if you take a moment to take a deep breath, relax, then look at the content and features added to the game over time you will find that they are for the most part:

…free.
…have a cost but it is measured in in-game currency such as gold.
…have a gem cost, but are cosmetic options.

We were told all along that Anet intended for the cash shop to focus primarily on account service (character slots, etc) and cosmetic options, with some convenience (permanent gathering tools) thrown in for good measure.

There are a number of things that I feel Anet got completely wrong (opinion) with GW2, but the monetization is about as customer friendly as I’ve ever seen in a game.

a) 100% of the playable content of the game without spending more than the box price.

b) Full access to max character power level (including gear) without spending more than the box price.

c) The ability to trade in game currency for cash shop currency (I know the exchange rate isnt good, but gold farming can at least subsidize real money spending).

Is anything free? This game is, to play. People hate on the Gem Store so much, seemingly forgetting there is no subscription fee. How is Anet supposed to make any money at all to keep the game running smoothly? The Gem Store offers convenience items or some cool extras you can buy if you want. Not one thing on the Gem Store offers even the most minute advantage over other players who don’t get whatever new item is released.

You’re being completely unreasonable. You can log in for literally 5 seconds to unlock the living story for free, or purchase it if you don’t log in. And you can buy it with gold if you want to anyway.

If it was reasonable we’d have had a lot more threads about it. I don’t really see a whole lot of people complaining about this.

i agree for that i finishing main story months ago and instead giving us those short monthly events they should give us real expansions like cantha or elona but all they do is adding gem items and removing good things off like town clothes and did i agree to pay them as tonics not to speak whole clothes system was bad at beginning they should have made them wearable for whole time like some games has plus there should have been normal clothes stores and i dont mean gem store) but they idea was to turn most of them tonics other than making them better and perhaps add those merchants i was talking about

Again, buying gems etc is entirely up to you. Anet doesn’t force you to buy anything. Choosing to make a totally optional purchase doesn’t entitle you to anything.

First of all it’s free if you log in. I haven’t paid for a single bit of the new content. Secondly it’s not necessary. That is to say, it’s not so pivotal that you have to play it. The rewards aren’t massive. You can skip it.

Thirdly you can play all that content without rewards, as long as you have a friend who’s unlocked it.

So I’m not really sure what you’re complaining about.

What part of free content don’t you understand. Most of us haven’t paid a nickle for it.

It’s still free just as much as the first season of the LS was. You missed it, you’ve missed it for good. It’s just this time around, if you are willing to pay, you can play the episodes you missed. But if you don’t pay, same as it was last season for you.

um.. agreeing with most people here. I don’t understand the part of gems for dye options, a dye is free to apply once unlocked, so I guess it’s just part of the rant.

I guess he burned through his backlog of unidyes. Or he became accustom to finding them in plant gathering. I buy dyes I want off the TP and the prices have all pretty much returned to the pre-April feature pack prices. Some still cheaper. Dyes can still be crafted.

older players with maxed toons who don’t get affected by the DR like most do don’t understand the toxic eastern style economy this game has had since Nov 2012. When you don’t have one of the unlucky accounts or you’re not a new player or if you don’t spend all of your time in dungeons/EOTM trains, of course you’ll have 0 problems getting loot.

One can remove the toxic elements from their game and still have a profitable title without gouging the new players. Example? Diablo III.

tigirius is convinced and has been convinced for some time that he’s entered a state of perpertual DR (diminishing returns). He believes there are lucky and unlucky account. He believes his account is unlucky.

If you look at his post history, a good number of his posts come back to this. It’s his biggest complaint in the game. It’s so annoying to him that it comes up in many of his threads, even if they only barely touch on the issue.

And you know, I won’t say he’s wrong or right. I don’t have his experiences so I can’t say. I can only say that I don’t believe it’s on topic for this particular thread.

No where did ANet state that all of their content would free to obtain forever. Just like guild wars 1, additional content is available for purchase but it not required to continue to play the game. The LS functions similarly to the story line component of Cantha or Elona – available, but not necessary to continue to play Prophecies.

Now, beyond all of that, when it comes to the LS, the only component you “need” to purchase if you miss it, are the story instances. Even then, only if you want to do the achievements for the story instances. All of dry top (its events, et all) are all available without the purchase of the LS story. You don’t even have to purchase the story to experience it, all you have to do it group with someone doing it, and they can drag you with them.

So the real issue isn’t that the game is moving toward having to buy gems to play content, but that you really want a expansion. I believe that there are already many threads on the matter, and compelling arguments on boths sides. However, what it all boils down to is that for the time being, Anet has decided to move away from a traditional expansion pack, and focus and develope the LS and that method to release content.

I have my complaints about this game but OP’s post is just reaching here…even I wouldn’t complain about this , and I complain about a lot of stuff in this game lol

GW2 has the gemstore done pretty well compared to all other cash shop MMOs…

First off, you aren’t missing out on much if you miss a LS chapter lol…its just a few hours of a cheesy story (this is my opinion, no need to bash me lol, some of you like it, by all means keep playing it, but that’s not exactly a feature most gamers are going to spend gems on…)

I can’t even recall any new content that anet has tied behind the gemstore.. new skins/toys sure but its purely cosmetics or simple convenience items like unlimited tools..

So yea, OP, you are just reaching here… all content is basically free.. unless you miss out on a LS chapter..

Sounds like a ‘you’ problem.

I haven’t had an issue with playing the game, converting gold to gems, and buying what I want.

“what I want” being “vanity items nonessential to gameplay.”

Why in the world do people react so strongly to completely optional gem purchases? Other games charge a flat $15 a month to just log in. This game, even the episodes are free to do even if you don’t log in one time for a couple of minutes during a 2 week period (or in this update, a whole month) to get them, either by converting gold to gems or by partying up with a friend who has that episode.

Some people act like ANet is robbing them blind and threatening to turn the family dog into a beer coozie.

Gem’s wars is only to look fancy i dont see how this denies progression on a character.
