I think a large part of it was they couldn’t figure out how to keep the inactive WvW maps counting towards map completion or proactively keeping support/bug tickets down from people going: I’ve got everything mapped and I can’t see where I’ve missed anything, when what they’re missing is the hidden WvW maps.

Now the timing of the removal being prior to the WvW maps being rotated out may have been influenced by the complaining, but I highly doubt it was any part of the reason why it was removed.

Another part of it may have been that more and more servers like mine didnt have a WvW population making it really difficult to get certain areas mapped. On my server you would go into WvW and wed have maybe one or two camps, maximum because nobody did WvW, it was awful. On top of that you needed to be decently lucky with the(if i remember right) random color rotation they had set up to get the areas you needed if your server couldnt take them through playing.

Regardless, i think its a good thing they removed it from being needed for world exploration. I just dont agree that they need to make the GoB available through a merchant again(and theyve stated they wont either) you can still get it without playing WvW, just takes longer…

Now if only i had something to spend these tokens on..

I agree, requiring WvW participation over PvE participation for the Gift of Battle is definitely the way to go.

I wouldn’t be opposed to adding it to a PvP track as well, though. Given that you can now use Legendary skins in PvP. So that it can be achieved in WvW OR PvP.

because legendaries are design to require every aspect of the game, which are crafting, pve exploration, pvp, wvw.

It’s a fact that even pure wvw players like me have to go through the torment of grinding pve just to craft 1 single legendary.

Quit whining.

Just gonna add my two cents in. Guys, 8 hours isn’t kitten, to be blunt. To make the legendary wvw armor, it takes (at a minimum) ~4months or more? 1 week per ~1-2 ascended armor pieces, then 1095 tickets (3 weeks) for one item for one leg armor. Do the math. X 6. 3 × 6 = ? Yea. You get the idea. Don’t complain about a few hours, trust me.. it gets you nowhere. :/

Sorry if someone else stated this, was too lazy to go through every post. :P

Get some boosters and you are done in 6-7-8hours top. Try to complete as many dailies as possible and consume the potions. A full track is roughly 75 of those.

Edit; Horrible typos.

It’s 6-8 hrs without boosters, with Boosters it’s between 3-4 hrs to complete.

Also there is a way to get the GoB without ever doing any WvW besides going into Spawn and purchasing an item for WvW Big Spender it’s Called Karmic and Ley Line Converters.

So either do 3-8 hrs of WvW or due the Converter method that requires zero WvW.

3-4 hours? I want to see that. I use boosters and it takes 7-8 hours easily and I am mostly on tier 6.

Especially for people without experience in WvW, it takes longer. It took me about 12 hours to get the Gift of Battle with boosters (also from the guild hall). Next time it will take less time because I now know what to do. I expect to get it done within 8 hours. But 3-4 hours? No way.

Edited for clarity: edited again because forum didn’t save my edited post.

Let’s do some simple math, at full Participation with out boosters and without including the Reward Track XP from Skirmish Rewards or Daily Reward Potions.

GoB =20,000 Reward XP
T6 Participation= 195 Reward XP
Reward XP awarded every 5 minutes

((20,000/195)5)/60=8.55

So no boosters and nothing else (highly unrealistic) it takes 8.55 hrs

W/ 10% booster

((20,000/215)5)/60=7.75

7.75 hrs again Unrelaistic since Daily Rewards are a thing and Instant Reward XP from Skirmish Rewards(automatically given every Tier)

Now let’s look with Daily Rewards 4 potions total at 250 each and the 10% booster

((19,000/215)5)/60=7.36

Again Unrealistic due to skirmish rewards number will be lower

Let’s look at full Booster and Daily Reward Potions

((19,000/361)5)/60=4.39

Already at 4.39 hrs and agin hats unrealistic due to Not including Skirmish Rewards.

Skirmish Rewards have a plethora of variables to factor in on how fast you get them, but you can clear Wood tier in 2.8 hrs with only 3 pips each tick which awards an additional 125 Reward XP, that is the longest it will take to clear that chest where the server is always last place and they aren’t outmanned on any BL and they aren’t Bronze Rank.

A Bronze Rank Player in second place on an Outmanned BL can clear wood in 50 minutes, Bronze in and additional 60 minutes and silver in an additional 87.6 minutes altogether that’s only 3.29 hrs which awards 750 Instant Reward XP

So some Quick Math

((18,250/361)5)/60=4.2 hrs

That’s a more Realistic number since it includes the Daily Potions, Skirmish Rewards and Boosters. If the player’s server is in 1st place they are higher rank etc etc. the GoB comes faster and faster. Where you can break into getting a GoB between 3hrs and 4.4 hrs.

For crying out loud…look…just stop.

When I was first trying to get map complete in this game WvW maps were required to get that, and since world complete was necessary to get things for a legendary I was “forced” to do WvW. This was also way before reward tracks. Amazingly, I actually found i liked it after trying it for some time. Was I good at it in the beginning? Nope. Am I good at it now? Sure a bit. Do I have nights where I just get rolled? Oh yeah. But at the end of the day its way more exciting when you get into some good fights than facerolling idiot NPC mobs on most PvE maps.

As others have stated, you can escort dolyaks and maybe fight a few skirmishes (and probably earn a few dailies) while doing the gift of battle reward track (which gives you other things which you’ll need anyway: clovers I’m looking at you) and you can even do the track multiple times for more of those mats and more gifts of battle. Or try for some armor after. Or really anything for very little effort and time per week.

Best thing to do for malgies is park a toon that has access to Verdant Brink (but whom you don’t run around with much) at matriarch and log in to punch her in the nose once a day. Tedious, yes, but it’ll mean you’re buying less when the time comes.

Just because I see a lot inaccurate info in this thread..
You need 20,000 points to finish a reward track.
At T6 participation, you gain 195 reward track points every 5 min. 20,000/195 = ~103 ticks*5min = ~515min = 8hours and 35min.

Ideally you should be using an EXP booster (50%) and your guild hall booster (10%) to get more reward track progress. Yes, there are other boosts but those are harder to get.

With those 2 boosters, I believe you gain 312 points per 5 min. 20,000/312 = ~65 ticks*5min = ~325min = ~5hours and 25min.

And all that without taking into account additional reward track progress you can gain from daily potions and pip-chest potions.
The daily potions give 250 points each and you can get up to 6 of them.
The pip-chest potions give 25 points each.

You can finish a track within less than 5 hours if you do all 4 wvw dailies + maintain T6 participation.

Look at how effective someone is in a full Soldiers set.
Look at how effective someone is in a full Dire set.
Nice balance.

XP boosts don’t affect the reward track points. I tried them. They give you more XP, but that doesn’t seem to translate into more reward track progress.

Or, am I wrong?

You are partially correct, but wrong as well.

Only the Black Lion Booster, the Experience Booster and Heroic Booster (these two share the same buff) affect WvW Reward Track. All the others don’t.

You can stack the Black Lion Booster and the Experience or Heroic Booster with the WvW reward Boost from The Guild Hall.

Before you start, make sure you set the active track to Gift of Battle. The game chooses randomly if you don’t. (This is true once you attain a GoB as well, if you want to go for more of them.) See the wiki, or just click the third tab down on the “B” dialog.

Two activities provide points without significant risk: the Big Spender reward and the Veteran Creature Slayer reward. (For the Veteran reward, check the wiki for locations.) Make sure you pick one of them that’s close to your waypoint in that zone. That keeps the human enemies away.

A little beyond that, but with more risk, are

  • Land Claimer – kill one of those stand-alone guards signified by a flag symbol on the map, and stand in the circle to claim the land. (once)
*Camp Capturer – capture a “camp”, twice. Camps look like tents on the map; hover over them to be sure. And, don’t try to kill the supervisor until after he loses his invulnerability buff (last 5 minutes after the camp is captured).
  • Master of Monuments – find your way to one of the monument locations and stand there for a minute. (once)
  • Guard Killer – find and kill five guards. The guards at camps count for this purpose, as do the guard you need to kill for land claimer. So, you can double-up those rewards.

If you see a human player (signified by red colored names and a red, blue, or green triangle over their head), run away. Almost all humans are better than you will ever be, so just don’t try (unless your team has more humans than they have locally – don’t count yourself).

NOTE: These only progress the reward track for Gift of Battle if they’re part of the dailies, or if you stick around long enough to collect the points (or both).

if we’re going to get into talking about “forced” activities we don’t like doing for dailies, get rid of fractal requirements.

But since that’s not going to happen, login to WvW and run with a zerg on Fridays and Saturdays. Use a nice AoE weapon/utility to tag stuff and knock this requirement out.

Because when Anet said play your own game they were deluding us and perhaps themselves. Anet has a history of trying to get players to play all aspects of the game – going all the way back to GW1. I suspect it’s a resource management issue they spent X number of hours making the content now they need to herd players into that content….

This is the company that made sport of “go kill 10 rats” and they have replaced it with “here is a shopping list to research then go kill those 114 different rats”

I think it was a mistake to remove the vendors. However, no amount of whining has changed Anets mind on this yet (keep at it though, the mapping requirement in WvW was removed because of the perpetual whining).

I say that as primarily a wvw player. Let the thing be bought with badges and let the people who don’t get how awesome WvW can be, leave with their little trinket.

ANet has thrown a few bones to PvPE and WvW players over the years. Reward tracks which award PvE rewards is one. They’ve shown little interest in catering to the, “I don’t wannas!” of PvE-primary players.

The WvW mapping requirement was removed because the nature of WvW kept people who wanted to engage with the requirement from succeeding. Players who wanted to do the task were often unable to because their server was always third, and thus the same color week after week. There were times this lasted for months. Through no fault of their own, they couldn’t succeed.

Needing to put in a few hours to complete the track is not in any way unfair. Players who attempt to complete the track, will. The vagaries of WvW matches will have little to no impact.

I don’t fault you for wanting PvE players who don’t really want to be in WvW to leave. However, I doubt ANet is going to bend on this one. If someone really doesn’t want to engage fully with WvW, they can still get the Gift via dailies, even if all they ever do is Big Spender, giving them a use for all those badges from achievement chests. It just takes longer.

Second PvE players can get the GoB without ever having to Enter WvW except to Purchase 25 badges worth of Items.

It’s changed multiple times since the game started. Originally, you needed Badges of Honor, which seemed hard to come by. ANet boosted the drop rate in a number of ways (I remember running the puzzles multiple times in order to get an extra 10 badges… whereas now we get 10 if we sneeze too hard in WvW).

For a while, people used the badges they had from AP chests, which were plenty to afford the GoB. ANet tried to nerf that cheeze by adding a rank requirement (which, btw, also cheesed people off at the time). That, too, was easily bypassed, since for a while, there were consumables available that offered liquid WXP and could be purchased for badges of honor.

ANet finally plugged all the original loopholes by turning it into a reward track.

However, there remain a couple of minor, new ones:

  • Spend 25 badges of honor when Big Spender is a daily — never set foot in WvW. I estimate that takes a maximum of 40 months and probably a minimum of 16-20 months (depending on how often that daily shows up).
  • Do the PvE-ish dailies. You do need to set foot in WvW to cap points or kill NPCs, but you don’t need to confront other players, depending on when you go for them. You can easily finish the GoB track within 2-3 months max.

There was no option to buy hero point from wvw at the launch. There is also no option to obtain batch of honor besides playing wvw at launch until achievement chest rework.

Now wvwer can gain hero point and reduce the time needed required towards GoE. Pver can obtain batch of honor from achievement chest to do big spender daily towards GoB. Seems totally fair to both parties.
