Before I ramble I want to let people know why im creating this thread. Im a long time MMO player, video game player, and fantasy fan. I understand that today, with constant access to the internet and the forums of multiple websites, we can voice our opinions and well, anyone can read them. I think however, that we are not showing the proper respect to the creators of Guild Wars 2. If you are not a fan or the game, just dont like how it is or whatever, thats just fine and hate away. Hate, dislike, voice your opinion like the good internet lords allow you. However, for us “FANS”, we need to calm down.
Board after board, forum after forum, website and link etc… I see fans, people that constantly play this game, or take breaks and come back, complain. Yes, complaining is good at times because it shows our concern and our issues so they can be fixed and addressed, but at the same time we need to also voice our appreciation. GW2 is unlike most MMOs in many regards, which that alone is (somehow!) shockingly hard to do apparently. Even FF14 looks a lot like EQ and WoW (which isnt bad, I was a huge EQ fan).
Point being, lets take the time to tell the devs how much we love this game and the hard work they put into it. Regardless of what many people say and complain about, there is some SERIOUS hard work going on over there. We have complained about balancing issues, PVE issues, WVW issues and so on, but for a game thats about to be 1 year old, its A LOT better than any other MMO I played at the 1 year mark, except MAYBE UItima Online, but that game had so many flaws we just learned to live with them because patches were far and few.
Please take the time to tell the devs what you love about this game and why their work is important to the gaming community.
Now, for the potatoes of my post, I want to speak about a future expansion.
I have read, as have the rest of you, that the devs want to create an expansion and then they dont, that they are doing well enough and everything can be rolled out via living story. Well im going to be the voice here and say this is not a good idea. I ADORE the living story, even though so far it has had little to no effect oh the actual real lore of the game, I still enjoy it. However, for both marketing and survivability purposes an expansion is a requirement. We will pay for it, the fan base is here with pockets open for you devs. We would like to see new classes and weapons, new areas unlocked, increased level cap, all of that. We want it, and we want it bad. with FF14 and ESO coming out, please give us some announcement on this so we have something to hold onto. I know the game is only 1 yr old, and we dont truly need it yet (most people, including myself who has played at launch, doesnt have 8 80s yet) but what we do need is assurance. Just KNOWING what will be coming in the future in regards to race class and weapons, the core content behind MMOs, will keep us waiting. Look at Diablo 3… a game that people love and love to hate… as much as everyone walked away from it, its been pretty much a given everyone will come back for the expansion. I can go on and on but I wont for now, and im not spell checking or editing my post. I probably said things that dont even make sense but im not here to be perfect im here to be a fan.
