The Topic title serves as the perfect “tl;dr.” I won’t be offended if you simply agree/disagree without reading any further.

If you take a look at my post history, you’ll see that I’m a ranting, raving, GW1 troll fanboy. Long story made short, I was rather taken aback when ANet reduced party sizes from 8 to 5, first in PvE, then PvP.

I tried raging against the machine. Some voiced their accordance with ANet (and even brought up some fair points about how certain skills/math works might not work with more than 5 people) But I’d say many, if not, more, agreed with me — that GW2 was headed in the wrong direction.

The majority of those who disagreed offered the same solution: “If you don’t like it, go back to GW1.” or, “Can I have your stuff?”

Well, that got me thinking: Is there anyway our xp, dailies, etc. can go towards our GW2 account? I know it sounds kinda selfish, but I’d like to enjoy certain aspects of GW1 (8 player parties, heroes, hard mode, secondary professions, etc.), but still roll with my GW2 buddies without feeling like I’m missing out on anything.

I’ll probably be playing GW1 regardless (Happy 10 year anniversary!) . But if I knew those dailies were going towards GW2 if/when they bring 8 player parties (raids) back…that would just be a huge warm/fuzzy.

That would be nice, especially if they up the party limit for Stronghold, which sucks as a 5v5 gametype.

What I.it you are asking for OP? That the XP you earn in GW1 is added to your GW2 account? I don’t understand what you are getting at.

Thanks for asking! For example, getting an achievement point or two on your GW2 account for completing dailies in GW1.

We already get AP from GW1 in the form of GWAMM/HoM. It’s a considerable challenge to get in GW1 and you are rewarded heartily for it in GW2. It’s A-net’s way of showing appreciation to loyal, veteran plays who have transferred from the original game to the next.

I think GW2 is their main focus now- I think it would be a bad business strategy in some respects to pull active players’ time away from GW2 and into GW1.

Moreover, AP has been (re)-structured so that the 1%-ers don’t have to worry about doing every daily possible just to hold their current position on the leaderboards. Including AP for completing (more) stuff in GW1 can only obstruct this.

We are getting raid-content in HoT. There are also plenty of things that are “hard mode” in the game. For instance, LS2 has plenty of achievements which can be considered quite difficult to complete, often where you interact with challenge motes to increase difficulty. Similarly Fractals increase in difficulty the higher level you are, so that could also be considered Hard Mode (especially level 40+).

That’s what HoM points are for. You get them for elite armor weapons(destroyer/tormented/oppressor) minis, hero armor and titles. You get skins and title unlocks for GW2. That’s about all your going to get I’m afraid.

GW1 and GW2 are very different games, and outside the HoM score (which was in essence just a marketing tool to keep us busy while waiting for GW2) nothing is linked or will be. The reason is that they are very different games.
Wether GW2 is for the better or not is for your own judgement to decide. Mine is that it is a better game as GW1. don’t get me wrong, GW1 was great, but it was a wannabe MMO. You where depending on pugs, heroes or guilds to do any content. What I love bout GW2 is the random open world encounters. Just like in here, where we are exchanging thoughts bout what we like (or dislike). In GW1 I had to go to a town and talk jsut to bored people. Just today I was in Kessex hills and someone asked bout the wizzards tower and how to get in. Me (and someone else) explained how it was one of the first things they designed for GW1, but whatever plans they had for it where abanded (if any). the other guy expressed how he wants to get in and I expressed that I would not like it if they would ever open it. It is a memory of the early starts of the game and it is an awesome mystery. Opening it up for visitors would mean it is no longer a mystery. We had a good (though short) talk while being total strangers. In GW1 it would never happen. By the time someone got back to LA (or temple of the ages) he would have forgotten to talk bout that tower in public and it would also sound akward.
GW2 is share the same name and continent and background story with GW1, but it is a totally different game. Changing that and bringing them together would damage both populations.

Interesting thing was that GW wasn’t a MMO it was a a CORPG, (or Competitive/Cooperative Online Role Playing Game), which was interesting for back in its time. Sadly, with GW2 release, population in GW dropped but with certain guilds, there are always people to play with, places to go, and things to do. Even now with the content drought GW2 is experiencing GW is still having the Wayfarer’s Reverie. So GW:1 | GW2:0 (Though I have to agree with you that they are very different games and both have their merits in different ways.)

Not true, 8v8 just turns into a roamfest with 4+ people and feels zergy. I don’t know how long you’ve been here but back when pvp hotjoins were 8v8 it was pretty unfun unless you were the team running around in your own blob. Though its never been tested in stronghold, I see issues with the map size and structure being to linear and lack of supply due to the few bundles of it that spawn in the center. Then the supply would be turned into minions and killed quickly since people would be everywhere because the map isn’t large enough and wasn’t ever ment to be for 8 people.

As for OP, I also wish GW2 interacted with GW1 more as well. I don’t think they’d go any further than cosmetics though.

Aside from the merits of the OP’s suggestion, it’s unlikely that ANet will do anything that requires any work on GW1. The older game is officially in “maintenance” mode — they handle account support, but nothing else. No new changes, no bug fixes, and it appears they added one last festival.

I don’t see how they could take anything from GW1 and have it influence GW2, without doing some work on GW1 and that isn’t going to happen.
