GW2: 2.3 Million Copies Sold (theorycrafted #'s)
Those numbers do not contain direct sales of gems as well?
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
There where three different types of boxes sold at different prices, how do you know the exact split between total revenue and copy type sold? o.O
Rouven does bring up a good point, if the GW2 numbers include gem store sales then it that could throw off the estimates.
Although there must have been some estimates on what is the average level of money that people generally spend on cash shop items?

How about pre-orders? I paid for the game in April.
Grand total copies of GW2 sold: 2,327,508.87. (Or 2.3 million)
I think that’s one of those #’s on the internet, that was made up or submitted by a crazy person :-D

Being that those are “pre-order/pre-purchase”, I don’t think the publisher counted it as profit until the product released/shipped. At least, from a standpoint of reporting it to shareholders, they can’t say they’ve officially sold something unless it’s sold; so they can’t count profit unless it’s really profit. That’s my take, anyways.
It’s pretty much pure speculation at this point in copies sold as we aren’t really sure how those numbers are calculated. I would expect roughly the 2.3 mil number since reports early showed the over 2 mil mark. I expect it to be higher now however, just based on server population increases.
I would assume they’d have to report their profit when they receive my money? I guess I meant pre-purchase not pre-order.
This is for third quarter so it won’t include any sales in the fourth quarter.
We don’t know if they also include sales from the second quarter for Guild Wars 2.
I am surprised that they didn’t say how many copies of GW2 were sold unless it was said somewhere and I’ve missed it.
I would say that a lot is cash shop sales , you just have to look at the revenue listed for Aion and Lineage 2… they are both free to play – free to download games now and both show good revenue on that chart as well.
It’s Q3 numbers, so anything past early September isn’t even on there, that’s pretty much only pre-orders and release sales.
I would recommend going and getting the report yourself. It’s much clearer when you see the figures in context.
From the NCSoft 3rd quarter report, GW2 sales excluding royalties was 45,841 KRW in MN, or 27% of all their game sales. If “MN” means million, that’s about $42 million in US dollars. Without knowing what NCSoft’s cut of the retail sales price, or how much of that is cash shop sales, it’s difficult to convert that into an accurate number of sales. That figure probably also excludes the pre-purchase sales that happened in the 2nd quarter.
Regardless, from reading the quarterly report, GW2 looks pretty successful so far with ArenaNet’s YoY sales up 2258%.
He might start thinking he knows what’s right for you.

Wasn’t there a press release about hitting 2 million accounts about a month ago?
I doubt 300k more since then, but it’s at least in the right ballpark.

September 13th that was announced, I believe.
I am sure they sold a lot more than 300k since then. This report is only for Q3.
