So I bought the new shadow assassin costume from the gem store and then realized that you cant replace individual parts of the item set because its a “costume”. I’m just wondering why this costume system is doing this, why can’t we just buy the costume for gem and then have our own say in how we want to mix and match? Isn’t one big part of mmorpgs standing out and sort of being different from the rest of the crowd? Why implement the costume system in the first place? Did people beg for this to be included into the game?

On another note, is it just me or do the designers at GW2 really need to step up their game. A lot of the light armor gear looks horrible (especially the ones on the gem store) and medium armor sort of follows that train as well. It feels like all the love is going towards heavy armor and even at that sometimes they look ugly as hell. I can understand if low level gear looks bad, but when you get to end game wouldn’t it make sense to have good looking gear?
Don’t get me wrong, there area few OK looking armor sets out there but none of them really have that jaw drop effect where you think “I NEED that gear”

It means with that particular costume they didn’t design it in the same way as other costumes and separating it into parts would have required them to alter the design because it would have most likely resulted either in clipping issues or in seams where they currently don’t have seams.

Regarding armour design, I sort of somewhat agree. My character spent the entire game in Heritage light armour because it is one of the few that I actually think looks decent.

apparently proofing the armors to be taken apart, and work with other sets is not worth the effort.
This is one of the reasons they redid wardrobe/costumes the way they chose to.

As far as how it looks, i would probably agree somewhat, however you have to realize that aethetics will always be somewhat subjective. And its a pretty high level skill to be able to tell what people will find to be fashionable. This is why the big fashion designers get paid the big bucks, and the wack ones work for pennies.

Tbh I’m totally fine with them creating “one single piece” outfits since they usally look cooler than normal armors. Also, and this part is really important, they usually are somehow free of clipping issues. That said….

….I totally agree with you on that. Another thing to underline is that almost every armor/outfit is clearly made for a specific profession. I mean this is extremely annoying expecially for light armors since 90% of the new light ones released are clearly made for eles or maybe mesmers (trickster), while none of them looks remotely cool on a necro imo.

I agree with you 100% what we call now outfits use to be 4to 5 pieces and you could intermix not only that you could replace that disgusting hat for glasses, Suddenly they had a flash of genius and realized they could cut their design time by half by making it one skin. The end result being I no longer buy outfits as a show of protest.

As for butt capes, and trench coats don’t bother complaining we’ve been doing so for 2 years and they never once bothered to give us a response. What do we know about design and good tastes? It’s not as if we were devs for Anet and had our say.

Just Anet being super aware of what people want in their game.
Limiting player’s customization options in a game driven by cometics must have really sounded like a fantastic ideia in their HQ.

For me, the only armor that I ever use or ever even makes sense to me is cultural armor. Especially on sylvari because most of the time non planty armor just looks out of place.

And yeah the costumes seem cool but a little too rigid which I dislike.
