Is it possible that there will be GW2 discounts in the future or is 39,99 EUR a fixed price now for the game?
Multiple of my friends want to buy it…

be carefull though with not authorized retailers though. Two recent examples that popped up on the account forum.
1: player bought the game months ago, asked for a refund, bought the game through an unauthorized retailer and attached it to the old (closed) account. Support directed him to the retailer to get a refund and retailer refused.
2: Player bought the game through an unauthorized retailer and he/she sold him a used productkey.
Bottom line, cheap unauthorized retailers are cheap, but not always trustworthy.

My friend’s friend was buying her an account for like 10$ from some shady kitten site with broken english all over the place. Needless to say I went ahead and bought her for from GMG so I could avoid both of them being screwed over.
Anyways, you’ll find that GW2 goes on sale fairly often, so just keep an eye out.
Edit: It appears that Green Man Gaming is still selling it for 10$ off.

I have to disagree with you. The lowest price for GW2 is for a company they don’t trust (they are warning you but many people ignore those warnings).
Also, refund policy’s are often very bad when you buy cheap. My advice is to watch the official retailers in your country and wait till they have a discount, or when GW2 has it’s own discount.

Unlike most, they won’t have to keep paying a sub, though.
It is quite likely it will go on sale, or be sold for a reduced price, at some point in the future but like other people have said it’s virtually impossible to predict when that will be.
Anet sometimes do their own sales, particularly around holidays (usually US holidays) but in most situations retailers have some flexibility in setting their own prices, so it might be that a particular store or chain reduces the price or includes it in a promotion.
Unfortunately unless you know someone who works for that stores marketing department these things are virtually impossible to predict. When I worked in retail even the store managers never knew what would happen with the prices, we’d just get into work in the morning, check the email and find a list of products to reduce or add promotion stickers to.
Your best bet is to check around, and either keep checking or figure out the next time they’re likely to have a sale and wait until then.

Hell I’d tell your friends to buy it from the gw2 website to give them support at the full price. Continuous 2 week updates with new content that most all companies make you pay $15 a month or make it pay to win with an in game store is a steal. And even when you pay $15 a month they usually don’t give you content updates ever but an expansion pack that you have to pay for. Its pretty cheap
Your friends will be exceptionally happy with such a purchase or at least I was especially with all the new major content being released in the next couple of months its a great time to buy.
