GW2 Duel System Suggestion
I don’t mind the idea of challenging others to duels, but the the bobble would be a problem. Imagine someone issuing a challenge during an event that demands positioning and things like that…
The challengers should only be vulnerable to each other, and that should be plenty to avoid interference…
EDIT: The bubble could be okay in certain places, such as the pvp lobby or inside cities. But with a restriction that it cannot be made within a certain range of NPC’s.
Leave it to A-net to decide whether the suggestion is possible or not.
Or you can go to PvP dueling servers, or guild hall arenas, or into Obsidian sanctum….

That would not give the option to challenge people in an open field for insulting his god. It wouldn’t let random PVE players watch the match, as would be the purpose :P
Or am I just completely off there?

PvE is purely cooperative in this game. Nothing will likely ever be added that is not cooperative.
Not to mention it should not he put in with the intent to allow other players to humiliate others. Yes it would happen no matter what they do, but it should never, and I repeat, never be a reason for adding dueling into a mode that is purely cooperative.
I’m 100% for duels as a method of pvp practice, or just a fun way to kill time. The idea doesn’t sound to bad to me till you said…
. This would allow you to publicly defeat and humiliate your opponent in front of spectators.
I really do not see A-net wanting to add something that would allow/encourage other players to humiliate one another. If that’s the main supporting reason for wanting this feature, you should ask yourself if it would make the game environment more friendly/enjoyable or more negative.
There are PvP custom arenas for normalized gear and guild arenas for PvE gear already …

Were ANet to add a dueling option, I believe it should include:
- An opt-in choice by players. If they do not opt in, the option to challenge them would not appear.
- The challenge option, if the person does opt in, should be available via right-click on portrait, not the friends/lfg interface. In order to fight, characters need to be in proximity, so I see no need to have the option in the social interface.
- Dueling would be disabled within 3000 units of banks, crafting stations, trading posts or any consensus RP areas (if any actually exist).
- Dueling should be available anywhere in the PvE world except as in #3 and in active event areas (i.e., the area within which players qualify for event credit. This would enable players to duel in the area, for example, where Shatt spawns while they wait, but not while the event is running.
- No barriers. Duelists would not harm non-dueling characters in the area, nor could those players revive a downed duelist.
- The defeated player should revive automatically after the duel is over.
- There is no need for a victory animation. If you want one, buy a finisher for your stomp.
- What Miku said.
If Dueling is to become a thing, I still feel it should be kept completely out of PvE zones. Instead it should be confined to specified areas, perhaps certain areas of the main cities (lore wise there is already precedent for it in Lion’s Arch and The Black Citadel.)
It has been my experience that even with an option to auto-decline a duel request, the incessant messaging that follows, either by the person making the request or by their associates is beyond maddening, is a horrible distraction, and detracts from the overall player experience in PvE zones.
So if dueling is to be added, add it to it’s own specified areas, but keep it OUT of PvE. Thanks!

Aion had something like this and it was always like walking into a pair of crack head monkeys brawling when you didn’t want the distraction. SWTOR used the same thing, except others could jump in and really turn things into a big circus. If memory serves me correctly, the duelists fought until downed only. As far as auto-decline, it’s great and all until the person kept nagging you along with all the trash talk. After the 2nd no, they were usually told to go commit an anatomically impossible feat & slapped on the block list.

if i can completely ignore duels in every way and make any and all players disappear when they are duel enabled i am fine with it, but are you gonna change the players them self who are guaranteed harass players who don’t want to?
i have played way to many games where i thought it’s gonna be fine but end up leaving because duels ruin the experience of the game, is it not the duel system it self then it is the players who are way to addicted to it, even get aggressive when you don’t like it.
the only proper way is to have 2 different types of shards, duel friendly and no duels allowed.
that way you have a choice, if you choose to go in a duel shard you also choose to get ppl like that, choose the PvE-only shard to choose not to handle such annoying ppl.
The idea of designing PvE from Day 1 of this game was so competitive play and co-operative play were separate.

Isn’t this basically the same dueling idea/conversation as mentioned in:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Additional-Right-Click-on-Player-Options-1/6268660
A boundary that cannot be crossed by other players would be a nightmare in a PVE environment. Especially when used to troll objectives, vendors, story-instance entrances and such. I could see folks constantly dueling on bridges and other choke points simply to deny other players access.
As there already exists means for players to engage in mutually acceptable duels in WvW and in the Mists, I have to think the chief desire here is to impose PVP on players who would otherwise not choose to partake. That acts against the spirit of cooperation which has been the foundation of every aspect of the PVE experience.
If you want to PVP, go to a PVP approved area and have fun. If you want to RP something out, you can do the same by exchanging friends and linking up in one of the PVP areas. If you want to troll PVE’ers by harassing them with challenges or instigating favorable duels against poorly equipped players, this isn’t the game for you.
Hello, I had an idea for a duel system in the PvE world. The way it would work is as follows.
a player clicks on another player. From the same menu that lets you add a friend or send emails, you can challenge that person to a duel as long as the two people are within 1200 range. When that happens the other person can either decline or accept it. Upon accepting it a small but reasonable barrier is formed around the two people, they will fight to the death in this ring. The ring will act as a boundary, so no one else can interfere. In the same time the other person can’t run away. The two people fight to the death. When one person dies the duel is completed, a little victory animation is shown. Then the dead person can be resurrected by his opponent or by sympathetic spectators. (can also, of course use a WP). One of the reasons I’d really like this system is because as of right now the only way you can duel is to meet in a corner area of the mists or WvW. . I especially wished for this when someone insulted Grenth on the farms of Queensdale, I wanted to, then and there, in front of everyone demonstrate his power. But alas, such a system does not yet exist. Please think on it Arena net and implement it if you can. Thanks as always.
Edit: Someone suggested certain areas where dueling is disabled. Also a good idea for where Anet feels it should not occur. Similar to disabling of gliding.
The ring can be substituted with some other form, this is preferable but might be more difficult for anet to do.
Most players can’t stand pvp. They do not want to be running around in pve land, on their pve build, getting pvp duel invite spam.
You should take advantage of dueling in the heart of the mists. There you will find other pvp players using their pvp builds.
